Chapter 23 – The Deep Cleavage
After Ye Lian extracted the Gel from the brain of the Mutation Zombie, Ling Mo immediately took it from her, and began comparing it with the Gel they had obtained previously.
Both pieces of Gel came from Mutation Zombies, but their colors were different from those they had encountered before. These were a deeper blood-red, and when brought to the nose, the scent was more pungent. This indicated that the Virus in these Mutation Zombies was purer, causing the Lesions to change accordingly.
Indeed, coming to the main city was the right decision. Only in areas where zombies are densely packed can one find more and stronger Mutation Zombies!
After storing the Gel, Ling Mo led Ye Lian up the stairs. In a building like this, which is mostly sealed off, there was certainly more than just that one Mutation Zombie. Hunting Mutation Zombies is dangerous, but compared to the gains, the risk is insignificant.
In the Apocalypse, those who don’t dare to take risks, even if they manage to survive, are destined to live poorly. Ling Mo understood this very clearly. As Ye Lian evolved, other Mutation Zombies were also rapidly evolving, and no one could predict what they would eventually become.
However, one thing was certain: the higher the evolution, the stronger the Mutation Zombies would become! If he didn’t strive to improve and only sought stability, he would not only become weaker but also drag Ye Lian down! It’s important to remember that Mutation Zombies prioritize attacking their own kind!
Right now, Ye Lian was under his control. Regardless of when she might regain her sanity, he had to consider her well-being.
What’s a little risk? Before encountering even stronger Mutation Zombies, the top priority was to enhance the abilities of both himself and Ye Lian as much as possible!
As it turned out, Ling Mo’s guess was correct. Several classrooms in the Science and Education Building had been locked by people fleeing, trapping the zombies inside. With no other way out, the zombies had resorted to killing each other. However, what surprised Ling Mo was that one of the classrooms on the second floor didn’t contain any Mutation Zombies—they were all dead. This was an unexpected discovery, but after observing for a while, he found the reason.
It wasn’t that there were no Mutation Zombies; rather, the Mutation Zombie had escaped through a broken window…
Ling Mo couldn’t help but worry about Xia Na. The situation indicated that at least one Mutation Zombie was roaming the campus, potentially putting them on a collision course…
“With that girl’s skills, she should be fine, right?” Ling Mo glanced out the window. From this vantage point, he could see the sports field behind the tree-lined avenue, the tall teaching buildings in the distance, and a few buildings that were likely the Dormitories. No. 3 High School covered a significant area, but now it looked desolate and dilapidated, with bloodstains everywhere and zombies slowly wandering around.
However, there was no sign of Xia Na or Liu Yuhao. Shaking his head, Ling Mo refocused on the hunt…
Over the next hour, Ling Mo hunted down six Mutation Zombies of varying strengths in the Science and Education Building and the adjacent Laboratory Building. He now had seven pieces of Gel in his possession. Except for two pieces that appeared slightly darker, the other five were remarkably pure.
Most people would avoid such collections of the Virus at all costs, but Ling Mo, with these Gels in his pocket, was overjoyed.
With these Gels, he could evolve again! Maybe this time, his physical strength would also take a significant leap!
Currently, Ling Mo’s Psychic Power had evolved to the point where he could control two Mutation Zombies simultaneously. Controlling ordinary zombies was even easier; he could handle four at once without any problem. Crucially, he no longer felt any barrier when controlling Ye Lian. It felt as though she was an extension of his own body. This made their teamwork impeccable.
Yet, the downside was that while Ling Mo’s Psychic Power had evolved, his physical strength hadn’t undergone a qualitative breakthrough. After a whole morning of fighting, he wasn’t exhausted, but he did feel somewhat drained.
“If only my body could evolve too, I wouldn’t be so worn out…”
In truth, Ling Mo’s stamina was already far superior to that of an average person, but watching Ye Lian remain unfazed and unflustered still left him feeling frustrated.
Grabbing Ye Lian’s arm with one hand, Ling Mo took a few deep breaths, feeling somewhat recovered. However, as he straightened up, he caught a close-up glimpse of Ye Lian’s neckline.
Ye Lian was wearing a shirt Ling Mo had randomly found in a store. Perhaps due to the intense movements during their battles, the buttons had popped open, revealing a deep cleavage. As Ling Mo raised his head, his nose ended up right in front of that cleavage, and the sight of her smooth, fair skin made him momentarily dizzy, while a surge of heat rose in his abdomen.
Ling Mo stared at that cleavage for a long time, even leaning closer involuntarily, before finally snapping back to reality.
“Control yourself! Control yourself!”
Helping Ye Lian dress and bathe was a necessity, but taking advantage of the situation was not how Ling Mo wanted to treat the girl he truly liked. Besides, just one look was enough to satisfy him…
After buttoning up Ye Lian’s shirt, Ling Mo led her toward their next destination. Since they had gone through so much trouble to get to this school, they needed to hunt as many Mutation Zombies as possible to obtain their Gel.
What Ling Mo didn’t notice was that shortly after they left, a blood-soaked figure appeared at the entrance of the tree-lined avenue. This figure had eyes filled with venom and malice, glaring at the buildings at the other end of the avenue.
This person’s upper body was wrapped in bandages, but what was horrifying was that every visible patch of skin was torn and ravaged. His fingernails were caked with a mixture of blood and flesh. The most terrifying part was his face, which was scratched beyond recognition, with his mouth slightly open, revealing blood-red gums, and eyes so bloodshot they were unbearable to look at.
Though almost unrecognizable, it was evident that this was Lu Xin, the person Xia Na and the others had left behind in the supermarket.
“Grrr…”
After letting out a hoarse, chilling laugh from his throat, Lu Xin suddenly darted forward, quickly crossing the tree-lined avenue and disappearing into the buildings.
Meanwhile, Ling Mo had just led Ye Lian into the nearest teaching building. He had no idea that as he climbed the stairs to the second floor, Lu Xin had passed by less than fifty meters away, sprinting through the area.
“Hmm?”
Ling Mo suddenly sensed a hint of eagerness from Ye Lian, causing him to smile: “Looks like there’s a Mutation Zombie in this building after all!”
