Chapter 207 – DIY Aerial Detector
The Loli Zombie moved quickly. Even though she was injured, she disappeared in no time.
Ye Lian and the others wanted to chase her, but after running a few hundred meters, they lost direction.
The environment here was too complex…
Moreover, Li Yalin’s speed could only be significantly boosted over short distances. Ambushes were her specialty; chasing was not her forte.
And Ling Mo couldn’t be too far from them either. Currently, his Psychic Power, after enhancement, only covered about two kilometers.
It’s not that Ling Mo wasn’t improving fast enough, but his advancement also meant that his three Zombie Puppets were advancing as well.
They had no choice but to retreat.
Ling Mo walked over and picked up the small backpack. It was surprisingly cute, shaped like a fluffy rabbit…
Thinking about it, it actually suited the Loli Zombie quite well. From behind, one might have mistaken her for an ordinary little girl.
“A zombie carrying a backpack for the first time…”
As soon as Ling Mo opened it, a strong, stale fragrance hit him, making him sneeze several times in a row.
“Damn…”
Inside were about a dozen pure Virus Gels, seemingly all from Advanced Zombies.
No wonder they hadn’t encountered any Advanced Zombies today; they had already been slaughtered by that Leader-Level Loli Zombie…
But what Ling Mo pulled out next left him somewhat baffled.
A box of anti-inflammatory medicine and a bottle of disinfectant spray…
These items were covered in dark brown bloodstains. Who knows if she found them amidst the dried blood in a pharmacy.
“A zombie… looking for medicine for herself?”
Ling Mo’s expression immediately became quite complicated.
As the Intelligence and memory of Senior Zombies gradually recover, it’s normal for them to remember such common knowledge. However, Senior Zombies already have a strong self-healing ability and shouldn’t need medication.
Just like how the submachine gun in Ling Mo’s hand can injure Senior Zombies, they understand the lethality of such firearms. But even if you handed them a gun, they wouldn’t use it.
In terms of attack instincts, they are more like beasts. Recovering their Intelligence doesn’t mean they regain human-like thinking patterns.
“Could it be that she wasn’t using it for herself? But she wouldn’t be taking care of a human, would she?”
Frowning, Ling Mo thought for a moment before discarding the packaging and stuffing the items into his own backpack.
With so many pure Virus Gels, Ye Lian and the others would have enough to last for a while.
“That little girl just now has definitely reached Leader-Level, right?” Ling Mo turned to ask.
Xia Na and Li Yalin exchanged glances and both nodded.
“That girl is pretty fast, and quite strong too. Hopefully, after taking a hit, she won’t show up in front of us again.”
Ling Mo felt a bit regretful. He had never seen what the Virus Gel inside a Leader-Level Zombie looked like. The Viral Hive and Virus Gel must look different…
But Leader-Level Zombies are indeed hard to hunt. Although they could completely suppress one with their abilities, the opponent was much craftier than an average Advanced Zombie. If things went south, she would run away, and she was fast…
In open areas, they might have been able to catch her. But in a place like this, she could just slip away and hide her presence, making it impossible to find her.
Searching separately? Even if Li Yalin had reached Leader-Level, it would be difficult to ensure she wouldn’t get injured in an ambush.
For safety’s sake, it was better to stick together. Ling Mo wasn’t willing to risk their lives just for some Virus Gel.
“Let’s find a place to rest.”
After a long day, Ling Mo’s Psychic Power was nearly depleted. The best way to recover was, of course, sleep.
They couldn’t stay on this Ancient Street. Ling Mo unfolded the map and took a quick look, finding the nearest marked spot.
“A couple’s hotel? What a nice place…”
Ling Mo touched his chin, looked at Ye Lian and the three girls beside him, and a wicked smile appeared on his lips.
Meanwhile, in the opposite direction from Ling Mo and the others, a blood-soaked figure was swiftly moving down the long street, quickly heading towards a distant building…
Ling Mo and his group spent some time reaching the couple’s hotel, only to find out that it was quite close to the Amusement Park.
Presumably, it wasn’t far from the Zoo either.
“Coo… coo…”
A few gray pigeons were at the hotel entrance. Since they didn’t eat meat, they hadn’t been infected, and regular zombies couldn’t catch them.
Ye Lian, however, was quite curious about these pigeons. With her Advanced Zombie abilities, she leaped forward and caught one in her hand.
“Should we roast it?” Ling Mo couldn’t help but lick his lips. Edible animals were quite rare these days…
“No…” Ye Lian shook her head. She stared at the pigeon, as if recalling something.
Ling Mo glanced at the pigeon and suddenly had an idea.
What if he diluted the Virus to a certain extent and slowly fed it to the pigeon? Could he turn it into a Mutation Pigeon?
Then, by making it a Zombie Puppet, it would be much easier to scout ahead.
Ling Mo felt that his biggest problem now was his limited field of view. A Mutation Pigeon could fly, and sharing its vision would essentially make it an Aerial Detector.
Unfortunately, the other pigeons had already been scared away, leaving only this one as a test subject.
“Then you keep it. I’ll get something to feed it later,” Ling Mo said with a smile.
“Okay!” Ye Lian immediately looked up, giving Ling Mo a slight smile.
She reached out to stroke the pigeon, seemingly very interested in the small creature.
This expression left Ling Mo momentarily stunned. He rarely saw Ye Lian smile, which wasn’t surprising given her limited recovery of Intelligence and memory.
But this genuine smile made Ling Mo feel a bit dazed.
It was as if he was seeing the old Ye Lian again… If he could help Ye Lian recover all her memories quickly, he might be able to see smiles like this more often…
Ling Mo felt a moment of gratitude. Initially, finding Ye Lian was his reason for survival; later, it became about helping her regain her memories.
Then came Xia Na, Li Yalin… Compared to Survivors merely living to stay alive, Ling Mo had many responsibilities, but his heart was also much fuller.
With these thoughts in mind, Ling Mo led Ye Lian and the three girls through the shattered glass door.
The hotel lobby was spacious, and several zombies lunged at them as soon as they entered.
With a flick of his Psychic Tentacle, Ling Mo immediately took Control of them.
The zombies’ eyes glazed over, and they walked outside, grabbing each other’s necks with a “crack” before collapsing to the ground.
This was a test of Ling Mo’s precise control. If the Zombie Puppets died, he would feel some repercussions.
As one was about to expire, Ling Mo quickly retracted his tentacle and then took control of the next one.
It was somewhat like a Psychic Type version of whack-a-mole; if his reactions were even slightly delayed, his head would ache for a while.
There was even an indoor swimming pool here, but unfortunately, it was filled with skeletal remains. As they approached, a foul stench assaulted their noses.
“Let’s go upstairs and find a cleaner room to stay in,” Ling Mo said as he turned and climbed the stairs. However, as soon as he stepped onto the second floor, a shadow suddenly leaped down from above.
Fortunately, Ling Mo’s body had become quite agile after his enhancements. He pushed off the handrail and landed back downstairs just in time.
The shadow let out a low growl and also leaped down through the gap in the stairs.
“An Advanced Zombie?”
Its blood-red eyes were cold, lacking the Frenzy typical of Mutation Zombies. It was definitely an Advanced Zombie.
It wore a suit, though it was now tattered and stained with blood. One of its hands was twisted outward grotesquely, likely deformed from a bone fracture.
Ling Mo glanced down and saw that his coat had been torn. Anger flared up inside him.
The Advanced Zombie bared its teeth and crouched on the handrail like a monkey, its eyes fixed on Ling Mo.
“Meat…”
“Meat your mother!”
Ling Mo hadn’t been harmed by a zombie in a long time. He couldn’t believe he had let his guard down and allowed this Advanced Zombie to tear his coat.
Luckily, he had dodged quickly. If his skin had been scratched, he might have joined the ranks of the zombies.
He had thought that all the Advanced Zombies in this area had been killed by that Leader-Level Loli Zombie, but apparently, one had slipped through the cracks.
It seemed there would always be stragglers. Advanced Zombies likely avoided Leader-Level ones.
If Ling Mo weren’t here, this Advanced Zombie might have quietly slipped away, not daring to confront Ye Lian and the three girls.
