Chapter 255 – Crushed until it burst
“There’s something strange about that female zombie… one of the Senior Zombies?”
As she rapidly descended using the rescue rope, Sun Zeya curiously recalled the look in that female zombie’s eyes.
Compared to typical Senior Zombies, there seemed to be some subtle differences.
“In Ling Mo’s notes, the last page documents the types of zombies that have appeared so far and classifies them. Ordinary Zombies, Mutation Zombies, Advanced Zombies. So, could this zombie be an Advanced Zombie then…”
Unfortunately, there was no detailed analysis available. The notes only mentioned differences in their eyes and approximate strength.
Ordinary people, when faced with zombies, rarely have the composure to notice specific differences in the zombies’ eyes.
To them, both Ordinary Zombies and Senior Zombies are terrifying鈥”both represent lethal threats.
If they had to differentiate, it would be that when facing a small number of Ordinary Zombies, they might still find ways to resist.
But Senior Zombies… encountering any level of Senior Zombie means that the chance of survival becomes slim, with the only difference being how quickly one might perish.
However, for the military, intelligence must be as comprehensive and detailed as possible.
“That page was clearly added by Ling Mo. Not only was the handwriting awful, but it was also extremely vague. I have every reason to believe that kid did it just to extort more from me.”
Sun Zeya thought of the messy lines of text.
“But this is indeed much better than our vague categorization of all Senior Zombies into one group. From the records, it is evident that the strength of Advanced Zombies has undergone a qualitative change. While the levels can roughly indicate a zombie’s power, they can’t be the sole standard, as there are still individual differences…”
Sun Zeya landed lightly on the ground and quickly released her grip.
She glanced at her worn-down leather gloves and thought to herself, “For Ling Mo to record so much information, it seems he has observed and studied zombies quite thoroughly. Even though he refuses to join us, his value should be significant enough for the Base to take notice and maintain a good cooperative relationship with him. However, I can’t shake the feeling that he’s withholding a lot of information. His records on Advanced Zombies are quite vague, and is the Advanced Zombie really the final evolution of zombies? After this mission, I need to have a proper talk with Ling Mo, even if it means getting extorted again.”
“But it’s too early to think about that now. Whether he can complete the mission alive is still a question.”
By now, the fire had spread, and several zombies, which had just rushed over from a short distance away, had noticed Sun Zeya.
Seeing the zombies madly charging at her, Sun Zeya raised her arm and waved at them, “Hello!”
As the group of zombies closed the distance to less than fifty meters, Sun Zeya flashed a slight smile, gripped her bayonet tightly, and darted into the nearby woods.
The zombies simultaneously accelerated and followed her in.
“Why does it always feel like she’s courting death whenever I see her fight…”
Ling Mo, controlling his Zombie Puppet, stood at the edge of the rooftop, watching Sun Zeya lead a horde of zombies into the woods.
Without firearms, choosing the woods as a battlefield was indeed a smart move.
It allowed for concealment, reducing the chance of being spotted by more zombies, and provided obstacles to outmaneuver and wear the zombies down…
“But she makes the whole combat plan lose its tension! Though maybe that’s a good thing. With a woman like her around, the others’ fear of battle is likely reduced significantly.”
Ling Mo shook his head helplessly and then couldn’t help but glance down at the Zombie Puppet’s chest.
“This chest is really nice…”
He quickly looked around, then raised his hand and gave it a squeeze.
“Uh… the silicone just burst…”
After Ling Mo severed the Psychic Link, his vision instantly returned to the small office.
He walked over to Li Yalin and gave her a playful slap on her perky buttocks. “No sign of a Leader-Level one? Then let’s get ready to move.”
“Oh, Ling-Ge,” Xia Na grabbed her Scythe and suddenly turned to ask, “Why were you grinning just now?”
“Nothing…” Ling Mo quickly shook his head.
As soon as the door opened, two zombies that had been feasting in the shop rushed at the sound.
Ye Lian quickly took care of one, while the other had its throat viciously bitten off by Black Silk, who had been hiding in the corner.
From Ling Mo’s perspective, Black Silk looked like a streak of silver light鈥”fast, fierce, and incredibly agile.
“Even its fighting style looks better now, but where’s my impressive giant dog!” Ling Mo thought, somewhat annoyed.
Its stealth ability was strong, so much so that if it weren’t for the Psychic Link, Ling Mo might have thought it was a silver dog statue.
There were few zombies left on the street in front of the shop. The constant loud noise had drawn nearly all the zombies in the area out.
In a short amount of time, they had all gathered near that building.
However, Ling Mo noticed that some zombies had also appeared outside the building where Tom and the others were hiding.
“Must be Mutation Zombies. With that Big Guy there, dealing with these zombies shouldn’t be a problem.”
Sound could attract zombies, but only Ordinary Zombies would circle around the sound source.
And even Ordinary Zombies, once they discovered humans, would immediately abandon the sound source and attack.
So, while this operation might seem simple, many factors had to be considered.
The speed of the fire spreading, the volume and duration of the sound source, and the speed at which the surrounding zombies rushed in…
So far, the effect was good. Most of the zombies had been drawn over and had entered the fire circle.
The flames hadn’t yet reached the phone, and the continuous music was attracting more zombies into the fire circle.
“Let’s go.”
Ling Mo drew his Tang Sword and quickly ran along the street toward the building.
Since most of the Zombies had been lured away, Ling Mo entered the building effortlessly.
Before going in, he preemptively Controlled a Zombie that was about to pounce on him.
There were no Zombies in sight in the lobby, but that didn’t mean it was safe inside.
In fact, these elevator buildings were the most dangerous. After being trapped for half a year, the Zombies that survived here were all elite…
Ling Mo beckoned to Black Silk, who quickly sniffed out the Emergency Staircase.
The iron door had been knocked off its hinges, and the other side was splattered with old bloodstains.
An extremely foul odor wafted out from inside.
“Can you tell how many Zombies are in there?” Ling Mo turned to ask Ye Lian and the three girls.
Ye Lian shook her head, while Xia Na snorted, “I can only smell a lot of our kind, but I can’t tell the exact number.”
“Should I try using my Psychic Tentacle through the walls… Wait, how many floors does this building have?”
Ling Mo stepped over a skeleton lying at the doorway and walked into the stairwell.
Li Yalin pointed to an emergency evacuation route map on the wall, which indicated the number of floors. “…30 floors.”
“Forget I said anything. Thirty floors… even if I pushed myself to the limit, my tentacles can only penetrate two floors at most.” Ling Mo said helplessly.
The Zombie Puppet staggered past Ling Mo and started to climb the stairs.
Using the Zombie Puppet to scout was slow, but it was still very safe.
Black Silk growled lowly, but Ling Mo shot it a stern look. “Are you planning to lure all the Zombies in this building to the top floor and then have everyone jump off? Just keep an eye out for any approaching Zombies.”
“Woof…”
Under Ling Mo’s Control, the Zombie Puppet quickly entered the first-floor corridor.
Although this building had thirty floors, Ling Mo’s method of searching wasn’t too difficult.
He just needed the Zombie Puppet to wander down the corridor and take note of the company names.
Whenever he encountered other Zombies, Ling Mo immediately took Control of them. With Ye Lian and the three girls searching the floors at high speed, Ling Mo’s Psychic Tentacles soon covered the entire building.
These radiating Psychic Tentacles all had one central point: Ling Mo.
Tom and Sun Zeya could never have imagined that Ling Mo didn’t have to take any risks at all.
The reason this task was so challenging for him was…
“Climbing stairs is so tiring…” Ling Mo said, exasperatedly.
