Chapter 308 – The Headshot Guy
Xia Na wouldn’t be waking up anytime soon.
Although Ling Mo’s intervention prevented a mutual destruction outcome, the substantial psychic power drain she suffered wasn’t something that could be recovered quickly.
Ling Mo could still replenish his psychic power by absorbing the saliva from Ye Lian and Li Yalin, but that benefit was one-sided.
“No wonder her eyes had such a bewitching ability; her psychic power is truly formidable. But then again, given how repressed she lived before, always arguing with herself in her mind, it’s no surprise that she either went mad or her psychic power grew stronger, turning her weakness into a talent.”
Ling Mo thought to himself, deep in contemplation.
Before heading back, he didn’t forget the original purpose of this outing.
The zombies downstairs, busy feeding, went berserk at the sight of Ling Mo, charging at him like they were on steroids.
Ling Mo controlled the two zombies in the lead, then unleashed a frenzy of psychic tentacles, taking down the rest.
Since the psychic tentacles had a small point of impact, Ling Mo, as his proficiency increased, shifted his attack targets from the zombies’ bodies to their heads.
“Swish! Swish! Swish!”
Dozens of materialized psychic tentacles shot out like arrows, and in the blink of an eye, those zombies had small, penetrating holes in their heads.
However, Ling Mo’s accuracy was limited; some of these bloody holes appeared on foreheads, some on faces, and even in mouths.
“But overall, it’s still a headshot… From now on, I’ll have a new nickname, the Headshot Guy…”
Ling Mo’s words were interrupted by Ye Lian’s soft voice.
“Didn’t you used to say your nickname was ‘Pee Far’?”
Li Yalin immediately chimed in, “Or ‘Loli Lover,’ maybe ‘Young Girl Lover’?”
“Uh… please, forget about the nickname thing.”
The two controlled zombie puppets were mutation zombies, with only nascent psychic fluctuations. Ling Mo simply erased their psychic power completely.
This process took him a few minutes and made him break out in a cold sweat again.
However, once their psychic light clusters became as pure as a newborn’s, controlling them became significantly easier.
“Ling-Ge… what are you planning to do with them?” Ye Lian asked curiously.
“Since we’re so close to the Falcon Camp’s outpost, it’s better to be prepared. Plus, having two extra pairs of eyes will give us a clearer view.”
Ling Mo controlled the two zombie puppets towards the station. He had already scouted ahead and knew there were only two alleys leading from the station to the residential compound.
By positioning these two zombies at the entrances of the alleys, he could monitor and guard at the same time.
Erasing their faint consciousness would save Ling Mo’s psychic power.
This idea came from Black Silk. When it parasitized a host body, it clearly destroyed all of the host’s consciousness, even their subconscious instincts.
However, Ling Mo couldn’t do this with every zombie puppet. The stronger the consciousness of the organism, the harder it was to erase. And controlling ordinary zombies didn’t require such effort.
“This arrangement should leave no gaps. As long as we don’t get too close to the outpost, we should be fine. We’ve gathered enough virus gel to last a while, but we’re not here to settle down. Before their main force arrives, we need to clear out the mutation zombies and advanced zombies in the nearby schools.”
Ling Mo spoke with a serious expression.
“Why is that?” Li Yalin asked, puzzled. “If you’re worried they might do something against us…”
“We can’t take them head-on. No matter what, we need to increase our strength as quickly as possible to feel more secure. If it comes down to it, once we gather enough virus gel, we’ll have the means to leave this place.”
Ling Mo clenched his fist as he spoke.
“Leave… this place?” Ye Lian looked back towards the station, seemingly unable to fully grasp Ling Mo’s concerns.
But after witnessing what happened to that advanced zombie, Ling Mo was indeed feeling a bit anxious!
On a road leading from A City to X City, a convoy of trucks was moving forward, led by several off-road vehicles.
At the front, an off-road vehicle had a machine gun mounted on its roof, and a rugged-looking man was wildly firing ahead, the barrel spitting flames continuously.
The road was littered with zombie corpses, many of which had been torn apart, leaving only skeletal remains.
“Rat-a-tat-tat-tat!”
“Hahaha! This feels amazing! These must be the leftovers from those groups that came through a few days ago. These bodies are like dung, attracting more flies over!”
The man laughed heartily as he spoke.
The driver, with a cigarette dangling from his mouth, frowned.
The heavy recoil made the vehicle feel the force of constant vibrations. If it weren’t for his excellent driving skills, they might have already ended up in a ditch.
He glanced at the young man sitting in the passenger seat and shouted, “Yuwen, what are you doing?”
The young man called Yuwen waved the documents in his hand and said calmly, “Just some paperwork. The outpost construction is completely finished. They also managed to capture an… advanced zombie.”
“Really?” The driver said, surprised. “That’s pretty impressive! But ‘advanced’… what does that mean?”
“It’s a classification made by a superhuman. The leaders found it useful and adopted it,” Yuwen replied, continuing to read. “I’m more interested in this superhuman than in these advanced zombies. Any advanced zombie they can capture alive can’t be that formidable. If they could catch one of the top-tier, powerful zombies, that would be something.”
“But I heard the one in A City hasn’t been causing any trouble lately and hasn’t attacked the quarantine zone anymore,” the driver said with some relief.
Yuwen gave him a meaningful look: “That’s because it got a taste of bullets. But this zombie is very cunning. After getting hurt once, it hasn’t shown up in front of guns again. But it’s still just a zombie, no matter how strong it is. Our current target is X City. Taking X City would give us the leverage to collaborate with the Air Force Corps…”
The driver exhaled a puff of smoke and pressed the horn with a grin: “Come on, you bastards!”
More zombies emerged from the buildings on both sides of the road. The rugged man laughed maniacally and started shooting wildly again.
But amidst the frenzy of gunfire, two zombies silently hid in the roadside bushes.
As the off-road vehicle roared past, one of the zombies leaped directly onto the window beside the driver’s seat, while the other swung deftly from a branch over the rugged man’s head.
The man’s laughter abruptly stopped as a fountain of blood, over a meter high, spurted from his headless body.
After landing, the zombie immediately charged towards the next off-road vehicle.
“An advanced… no, it’s a mutation zombie! Crossfire, crossfire!”
The people in the second off-road vehicle shouted, and two young men simultaneously leaned out from both sides of the windows. After firing a dozen rounds, the mutation zombie’s speed finally slowed, and it was knocked into a roadside barrier by the off-road vehicle.
But the first off-road vehicle began to swerve erratically. The zombie had punched through the window, though the glass didn’t shatter completely and hung there like a single piece.
The driver was sweating profusely, shouting loudly to release his inner fear.
The zombie was right outside the window!
“Stop shouting! Keep your head down!”
Yuwen shouted, and as the driver ducked, it seemed like a spark flew from Yuwen’s fingertips, smashing the window to pieces.
“Ahhh!”
The driver screamed again in terror as the broken glass fell onto his head.
The zombie frantically reached in, trying to grab the driver.
But at that moment, a burst of sparks suddenly enveloped the zombie’s head, causing it to fall backward and tumble out of the vehicle.
Feeling the wheels crush the zombie, the pale-faced driver slowly raised his head.
Yuwen helped to steer the wheel, preventing the vehicle from crashing into the median strip, then returned to his seat, sniffing the air: “The stench of blood is so strong. That’s why arrogance leads to an early death. You guys who stay in the quarantine zone all the time, do you really think the outside is a playground? This place… is a slaughterhouse.”
