Chapter 322 – A Lucky Find

At the Bus Station Entrance

The ground was stained with dark brown blood, and a pungent odor filled the air.

Two tow trucks were parked by the roadside, and not far away, two soldiers with guns were patrolling back and forth.

A few shadows silently appeared in the bushes across the street. Ling Mo carefully parted the branches in front of him and peered towards the station.

“Two at the entrance, two by the roadside, and two more on top of the bus at the back.”

Ling Mo squinted, observing for a moment before turning to look behind him.

A Zombie Puppet, stripped of its consciousness, was crouching there. Ling Mo shifted his vision to the puppet and began to control it, making it move slowly along the wall towards the roadside.

Avoiding the patrol’s eyes wasn’t difficult; as Ling Mo had guessed, they were all a bit worn out from the recent battle.

The Zombie Puppet quickly half-crouched and dashed across the street, inching closer to the tow trucks.

Even though it was just a Zombie Puppet, Ling Mo remained cautious. Missing this chance would mean watching all this Virus Gel slip away.

“As they say, bystanders often end up with some unexpected gains. For them, this gel is useless anyway…”

Ling Mo thought to himself as he hid in the shadows, observing the gaze of the two soldiers on top of the bus.

When their eyes turned away, Ling Mo seized the moment, dashed forward, leaped, grabbed the edge of the tow truck, and pulled himself up.

“Did you hear something just now?”

A patrolling soldier turned his head, puzzled, looking at the empty street.

The other soldier immediately raised his gun tensely. After a few seconds of scanning, he relaxed suddenly and said, “Man, don’t scare me like that. There’s no sound. You must’ve heard wrong…”

“Heh, my bad.”

While they chatted, Ling Mo had already crawled to the pile of corpses.

At the front was a Mutation Sheep. Its head had no protrusions, indicating that the Virus Gel was inside its brain.

However, extracting it from its head wouldn’t be easy the bones were too hard…

Since he couldn’t make any noise, Ling Mo had to slowly dig with the Zombie Puppet’s blade-like fingers. By the time he extracted a piece of the crystal-clear Virus Gel, two minutes had already passed.

“So many bodies… I’ll be digging all day today…”

Ling Mo felt a bit excited. Even back at the Zoo, he hadn’t seen this many Mutation Beasts with Virus Gel.

It seemed that both zombies and Mutation Beasts evolved faster in a brutal “wild” environment.

This time, Ling Mo had really lucked out. With his own strength, he could handle one or two Mutation Beasts. But dealing with so many powerful Mutation Beasts was far too difficult.

The Falcon Camp had also paid a heavy price to barely achieve victory.

“Holy crap! Forty pieces! The quantity! The purity! This is freaking awesome…”

As he dug, Ling Mo got more and more experienced, and his speed increased.

But just as he reached the middle of the pile, he suddenly heard footsteps approaching.

Ling Mo quickly had the Zombie Puppet hide among the corpses to avoid detection.

Two people approached. After exchanging greetings with the patrolling soldiers, they jumped directly onto the trailer where Ling Mo’s Zombie Puppet was hiding.

Since they jumped on from the front of the trailer, where Ling Mo hadn’t dug yet, they didn’t notice anything unusual.

One of them excitedly pulled out a Tactical Knife and skillfully twirled it, caressing the body of a Mutation Beast in front of him as if it were a lover.

“Zhang Yu, haven’t you discovered anything these past few days? Any general direction?” he asked while lovingly stroking the corpse.

The man called Zhang Yu looked at his companion’s actions with a face full of disgust and hesitated before replying, “No, not yet…”

He quickly changed the subject, asking, “Yuwen, are you really going to dissect one of these? The Intelligence Team opposed it when you mentioned it during the day. Aren’t you worried they’ll report you?”

“Report me? These things cost us over sixty lives, a tank, and several superhumans! Take them back for those half-baked researchers to study and wait for their results? What a joke! I’d rather trust myself than them.”

Yuwen scoffed and then let out a maniacal laugh. “Heh heh heh, you think the armor made from these guys’ hides would be tougher than a Bulletproof Vest? The only question is, what kind of thread would you use to stitch this stuff together?”

Ling Mo peeked out from a crack, realizing he had seen these two before.

One was the maniac, and the other was the superhuman who had nearly detected him earlier.

This realization made Ling Mo extremely wary, and he immediately reined in his aura.

Just my luck… A captain-level figure, personally dissecting corpses in the middle of the night? This guy must be nuts!

But given his behavior on the battlefield, anyone who thinks he’s sane is delusional.

“So, this guy’s name is Yuwen… I don’t know anyone by that name. Maybe he just has one of those familiar faces,” Ling Mo thought to himself.

Yuwen had already started moving the corpse, but due to a domino effect, the pile of bodies shifted, causing one to fall right in front of Ling Mo.

“Crap!” His arm was instantly crushed, and though it didn’t hurt, it startled Ling Mo.

“Who’s there?!”

The sudden shock made Ling Mo’s previously concealed aura leak out.

Normally, an average superhuman wouldn’t detect this, but Zhang Yu, standing next to Yuwen, had extraordinarily keen senses.

Hearing the shout, Ling Mo knew he couldn’t hide anymore.

He quickly jumped up, leaping off the truck, then darted into a nearby alley.

If it weren’t for the distance limitation, Ling Mo could have controlled the Zombie Puppet to keep running straight. However, considering the Psychic Link with Black Silk back at the Residential Compound, he had to make the Zombie Puppet loop back towards him after entering a small forest.

Still, he was cautious. Although the direction was the same, the paths were different.

Both Yuwen and Zhang Yu were taken aback. Before they could react, the person hiding among the corpses had already vanished.

“Hahaha! Someone else is interested in these bodies. Let’s go, chase them!”

Yuwen shouted excitedly, jumping off the truck and rushing after the fleeing figure.

Zhang Yu cursed under his breath and turned to shout at the patrolling team members rushing over, “Increase the alert! There might be a superhuman trying to sneak into the Camp by hiding in that vehicle! Check if there’s anyone else on that truck!”

After shouting, he quickly caught up with Yuwen.

Both of them weren’t particularly fast, but their stamina was exceptional. With a superhuman tracker like Zhang Yu on their tail, Ling Mo’s Zombie Puppet couldn’t shake them off.

“No choice, abandon the puppet! I have plenty of them anyway!”

As he leaped over a dried-up drainage ditch, Ling Mo swiftly tossed the bag of Virus Gel under a concrete slab, then turned in another direction and dashed into a building.

Seeing Ling Mo enter the building, Yuwen immediately whistled, “Block him in there! Hahaha, I can’t wait to see who has such a good connection with me!”

But Zhang Yu, following behind, had a more complicated expression.

He felt a trace of familiarity from the shadowy figure.

The building had one entrance and one exit. Yuwen pursued through the entrance, while Zhang Yu volunteered to intercept the figure at the exit.

They chased up different staircases, with Zhang Yu pushing his speed to the limit.

Thanks to his heightened sensory abilities, Zhang Yu soon caught up with the figure on the seventh floor in an office.

To his surprise, the figure was climbing onto the window ledge, as if about to jump!

“Hey! Wait! I’m not going to kill you!”

Zhang Yu’s eyes widened, and he quickly shouted, “Do you know a girl named…”

But before he could finish his sentence, the figure had already leaped from the building.

In that instant, Ling Mo severed the Psychic Link.

This way, there would be no evidence left, and he could eliminate any future troubles. Once they left, he could return to retrieve the bag of Virus Gel.

“This is a big score!”

Returning his vision to his own body, Ling Mo immediately rubbed his hands together with a grin, then turned and grabbed Li Yalin’s breast, “Senior Sister, I found you so many snacks. How are you going to thank me?”
