Chapter 344 – Butt on fire
Li Yalin’s reaction made Ling Mo realize that he had underestimated the leader-level zombie’s desire to propagate the species.
But thinking back, zombies don’t joke around when they talk. Li Yalin always mentioned children, purely out of an instinctual need.
Though he had deposited plenty of sperm, they were all drowned in the Virus. Ling Mo was gradually becoming disheartened by this.
For him, having them was already enough.
Not having children was certainly regrettable, but it wasn’t something to force.
However, seeing Li Yalin’s expression now and sensing her intense Psychic Fluctuation, Ling Mo felt a jolt in his heart.
Yes… The idea of not forcing it was just his own viewpoint!
Although Li Yalin was a zombie, she had her own needs too.
Perhaps in the future, Xia Na and Ye Lian might also experience this. Would he then continue to ignore it?
“In that case, I hope to find some relevant information in A City!” Ling Mo thought to himself, flashing a smile at Li Yalin.
Seeing his expression, Li Yalin’s somewhat Frenzied gaze gradually returned to normal, and her Psychic Activity calmed down.
No one else noticed this subtle change.
The middle of the bridge was completely blown apart, making it impossible for the Off-road Vehicle to cross.
Just as they drove onto the bridge, Yuwen Xuan floored the gas pedal, then suddenly slammed on the brakes amidst Wu Pengfei and Luo Ni’s screams.
“Whoa, I almost thought we were going to plunge right into the river!”
Wu Pengfei patted his chest to calm himself. His heart had been pounding so hard in that moment that he nearly died from it.
“I thought I was going to die…” Luo Ni, meanwhile, frantically pushed open the door and threw up with a loud “Waa.”
Ling Mo, his face pale, glared at Yuwen Xuan, barely restraining the urge to strangle him.
Being with this lunatic wasn’t just thrilling—it was life-threatening!
However, Ye Lian and the others seemed quite happy. Even Black Silk looked excited.
Aside from killing and bloodshed, and toying with humans, they seemed to have discovered a new form of entertainment.
“Hahaha, thrilling, right? Skills like mine are something most people never get to see.”
Yuwen Xuan jumped out of the car and pulled out a string of firecrackers from the trunk.
These firecrackers were specially modified with extra-long fuses.
“We need to keep these monsters occupied here, or we won’t be able to get across.”
As Yuwen Xuan explained, he began laying out the firecrackers.
The bridge was about 130 meters long, with a 50-meter gap in the middle where it had collapsed.
The other side of the broken bridge was packed with zombies. They were constantly roaring, waving their bloodstained iron arms.
Their twisted faces and crimson eyes were filled with a Frenzy that sent chills down the spine.
Some zombies clung to the iron railings of the bridge, their hard nails scratching incessantly and producing a harsh “kak kak” sound.
At such a close distance and facing so many zombies, Ye Lian and the others remained unfazed, and Ling Mo stayed relatively calm. But Wu Pengfei and Luo Ni were pale, their legs trembling.
If they hadn’t just had a brush with death, they might have been even more terrified.
Yuwen Xuan’s “driving skills” had actually served to toughen them up.
“I thought I was car-sick just now, but now I realize I’m zombie-sick… Please allow me to hide in the car for a bit…”
Wu Pengfei shivered as he shrank back into the car. Luo Ni forced herself to look a couple more times but finally couldn’t help screaming. She quickly jumped into the car as well, burying her head and not daring to look again.
Ling Mo stood at the edge of the bridge, thoughtfully observing the clawing zombies on the other side.
Why… Why does something feel off…
“Hey, wait a minute!”
Ling Mo suddenly exclaimed, “They… they’re different from the zombies I’ve seen before!”
Even Senior Zombies couldn’t jump across a 50-meter gap.
The river below was deep and quite turbulent.
But these obstacles shouldn’t matter to zombies!
From Ling Mo’s experience, seeing people on the other side would usually drive them into a Frenzy, making them madly rush over!
Yet, despite standing there for a good two to three minutes, though the zombies looked frenzied, not a single one had tried to jump across to attack!
“Heh, see, I told you. These zombies adapt well to their environment. They’ve learned not to do collective bridge-jumping anymore. But thousands of zombies have died in this river.”
Yuwen Xuan clapped his hands, having finished laying out the firecrackers.
“Good thing I’ve never directly drunk river water, nor even used it to wash my face…”
As Ling Mo spoke, the sound of violent retching came from the direction of the Off-road Vehicle.
“You didn’t actually drink it, did you? That’s basically suicide,” Ling Mo asked curiously.
Wu Pengfei raised his hand with difficulty and waved it vigorously.
“Did you use it to wash your hands? Brush your teeth?” Yuwen Xuan joined in, equally curious.
“Ugh!”
With his question, Wu Pengfei and Luo Ni immediately started vomiting even harder.
“Uh… my sympathies. But Yuwen, even if they don’t jump, how do we get across?” Ling Mo rubbed his temples and asked.
“There’s a small reservoir upstream. We can drive over the dam. But if we don’t keep these zombies occupied here, they’ll follow us.”
Yuwen Xuan explained.
Being the local, Ling Mo had his doubts but didn’t say much more.
After the Off-road Vehicle turned around and drove off the bridge, Yuwen Xuan snapped his fingers.
Ling Mo noticed a spark light up on the bridge, likely the fuse being ignited.
“We only have five minutes, so hold on tight!”
With the first firecracker going off, Yuwen Xuan immediately sped up.
The Off-road Vehicle raced along the desolate riverbank, and soon they spotted a small reservoir.
The dam here was still intact, but the bridge connecting it to the riverbank had been blown up. However, the gap was much smaller, only about ten meters.
“A suspension bridge?”
It was the first time Ling Mo had seen such an ancient design, reminiscent of those used on moats in ancient times.
But this one looked quite rickety and unreliable.
“Of course. We used to be optimistic, thinking we could wipe out the zombies without using too much ammo and manpower. But the reality was, just blocking them was a huge effort. This suspension bridge ended up being useless. Rather than reclaiming lost ground, everyone wished it would never be lowered again.”
Yuwen Xuan spoke with a hint of sarcasm and laughed.
“But… I remember, there are a few towns over there, right? And isn’t that the road into the mountains? Several densely populated counties are in there…” Luo Ni suddenly interjected.
As soon as she asked, it was as if she realized something. Her eyes widened, and she quickly covered her mouth with her hand.
“Could it be that you…”
Seeing her horrified expression, Yuwen Xuan’s face turned uncharacteristically serious for a moment: “If you were the decision-maker, would you choose to save the majority, or risk the many for a few survivors who might be there, but could also be dead?”
“I…” Luo Ni was stunned.
This question seemed too heavy for an ordinary girl…
Wu Pengfei, however, took a deep breath and said, “Naturally, you save the majority. The decisions made by those in charge may not always be morally right, but they are certainly the most correct.”
Yuwen Xuan looked at Wu Pengfei with surprise, then smiled slightly: “Well said.”
After lowering the Suspension Bridge, Yuwen Xuan drove the Off-road Vehicle across in one go. Then he returned alone to raise the bridge back up.
Initially, Ling Mo thought Yuwen Xuan’s superhuman abilities were only for offense, but he hadn’t expected that Yuwen Xuan had put significant effort into developing them.
For the ten-meter distance, Yuwen Xuan took a running start and then leaped fiercely towards the river.
A burst of flames shot from his backside, transforming him momentarily into a human rocket, and with a “boom,” he landed on the back of the Off-road Vehicle.
The commotion startled everyone inside the vehicle. When Yuwen Xuan got in with a smile, he found Ling Mo looking at him with a peculiar expression.
“What’s up? Think I looked particularly cool and handsome just now? No need to worship me…”
Yuwen Xuan proudly ran a hand through his hair and asked.
“No… I just wanted to ask, is your butt… okay?” Ling Mo asked, his tone odd.
When Yuwen Xuan got into the vehicle, Ling Mo had clearly seen that the superhuman’s pants were burned through.
Though he was wearing leather pants underneath, preventing any exposure, it still looked quite comical…
