Chapter 551 – Spider Web
“You’re saying… this monster just happened to pass by your window while you were blowing the wind, and you casually killed it?”
Lucy looked at the zombie corpse at her feet, asking.
“That’s right.” Ling Mo nodded.
At the moment, he was comfortably seated in an armchair, holding a cup of hot tea.
From his relaxed manner, it was clear he didn’t regard himself as a guest at all.
There were a dozen F Team members standing in the room, but none showed the slightest displeasure at Ling Mo’s behavior.
As someone who had saved the lives of their entire team, Ling Mo could do as he pleased—even if he lay there snoring, it would be justified.
Among the crowd were a few women who were very interested in Ling Mo.
If it weren’t for the overly impressive girls around Ling Mo, these women might have already made their moves.
Others felt envious but had no desire to compete.
Who could blame someone who is young and strong!
Although not traditionally handsome, his eyes added quite a bit of charm to him.
Sitting there, he might not be overwhelmingly attractive, but he exuded a very comfortable vibe…
However, in the next second, Lucy’s words caught everyone’s attention—
“But…” Lucy’s expression became conflicted as she glanced at Ling Mo and said, “Your room’s window… is a floor-to-ceiling, fully-sealed one.”
“What the heck!!”
“Pfft! Did I hear that right?”
“This is too…”
“What a poorly crafted lie!”
“But he’s still so calm…”
“Is he pretending? Stop staring, stop staring…”
The onlookers from F Team all turned their heads, unable to bear looking at Ling Mo’s expression at this moment.
In such an embarrassing scenario, pretending not to have seen anything seemed like the wisest course for their own safety…
“Did you really think you could deceive me with such a low-quality lie? How stupid do you think I am!” Lucy said angrily.
This guy was really infuriating…
Especially after being exposed face to face, he still looked listless and made no effort to argue, which infuriated Lucy even more.
Is he admitting it?
It’s probably that he doesn’t want to say anything, right!
Based on Lucy’s understanding of Ling Mo, when he refuses to talk about something, no amount of questioning will help.
But if he won’t discuss it, what exactly is he here for?
Mooching off food and drink? It sure seemed like it!
From the moment he came in, this guy hadn’t stopped eating. The tea Lucy had just brewed for herself was naturally snatched by him with a shameless “thank you.”
If her attention hadn’t been snagged by the corpse, Lucy would have kicked him out long ago.
Even though Ling Mo appeared to be very nonchalant, the corpse was no joke.
At first, everyone thought it was just a variation zombie’s body, but thinking casually, if it were such a common monster, why would Ling Mo go through the trouble of bringing it back so solemnly?
Thus, everyone patiently conducted a thorough examination of the corpse.
And what they found shocked every single one of them.
Variation zombies were not rare, and ordinary zombies littered the streets, but neither had ever grown a retractable tail or an ingeniously hidden, fully-rotating watchtower!
This kind of monster was a first for everyone!
Meanwhile, Lucy was thinking that this was also her first time meeting someone who would knock on her door early in the morning dragging a corpse and then calmly say, “I’ve brought you a surprise.”
Surprise? It certainly was surprising, but where was the joy?
“… In short…”
Ling Mo took a sip of tea, leaned back comfortably, and said, “The emergence of such a monster means that real zombies are starting to take shape. These are fusion products of variation zombies and ordinary zombies, possessing both the intelligence and appearance of normal zombies, and the special physical mutation abilities of variation zombies.”
“You can imagine, soon enough, the ordinary zombies roaming the streets will no longer be so ordinary.”
Ling Mo’s words instantly caused an uproar. Those present in the room at this moment were either veteran members of the F Team or some of the stronger individuals in the team, all of whom had significant clout.
This also meant that they had fought more battles than other superhumans, seen more types of monsters, and had a deeper understanding of the zombie species.
Ling Mo’s words sounded utterly terrifying!
However, there was always someone who lagged a step behind and asked, “What do you mean by ‘no longer ordinary’?”
“Heh…” Ling Mo chuckled, but his laugh bore no trace of joy; instead, it seemed rather cold, “It means that if you treat those familiar zombies in the usual way, they might pull out their own spine within seconds and fight you with it.”
“What kind of ability is that? Pulling out a spine would turn them into a pile of mush, wouldn’t it? Like their head falling into their pelvis, and turning into a half-bodied human…” The murmurs from the crowd echoed.
“Maybe they could pull it off, like growing an extra spine…”
“Would they have spares? It’s not like they’re spare tires…”
“What? Who called me?”
Listening to the noisiness, Ling Mo sighed and rubbed his temples.
Indeed, compared to the Falcons and the Air Force Corps, these people seemed far less disciplined.
It made sense, though—each superhuman came from different backgrounds, with no leadership or training…
“Sigh…” Ling Mo sighed and said, “What’s your plan?”
The chatter immediately quieted down; a few seconds later, the room was utterly silent.
All eyes were on Ling Mo and Lucy. Although Ling Mo wasn’t a member of F Team, at this moment, no one in F Team dared to claim they were stronger than him.
Lucy, having gone through the recent Jianqi incident, had begun to establish some authority within F Team.
“You speak.” Ling Mo quickly passed the ball to Lucy.
“Me?” Lucy was taken aback initially, then looked at the F Team members in the room.
With everyone’s gaze focused on her, Lucy maintained a calm exterior, though she was slightly nervous inside.
“Well… since it’s like this, I’ll speak.” Lucy bit her lip and said, “The situation looks manageable now, but from what Ling Mo suggests, we won’t be relaxed for long. So, it’s time we started to consider our future direction.”
“First and foremost, we need to establish our principles and leadership. With clear goals and a guiding leader, we can go a long way…”
Lucy started off a bit nervous, but as she went on, she became more fluent.
She instinctively looked toward where Ling Mo had been, only to find that he had already disappeared…
Seeing the door still gently swinging, Lucy continued speaking, though her eyes betrayed a hint of wistfulness…
…
“Why not stay and listen? It was getting interesting.”
Ling Mo had just stepped out when Xia Na sidled up to him, smiling mischievously.
“I’m not really interested in that sort of thing,” Ling Mo replied curtly.
“Not interested, or feeling like an outsider and somewhat unhappy?” Xia Na pressed.
Ling Mo stopped in his tracks and turned to glance at Xia Na.
The dark-haired girl was leaning forward, looking at him with a grin.
Raising his hand, Ling Mo made a gesture as if to flick her forehead, but at the last moment, he relaxed his fingers and gently tapped her nose instead. “You really have a sharp tongue,” he said.
“Hehe! Don’t be mad. Even though you can’t join the humans, isn’t hanging out with us still fun?” Xia Na said, hooking her arm through his.
“Hush, there are a lot of superhumans around here! What if someone hears us?” Ling Mo exclaimed nervously, glancing around with concern.
“Ah, well.” Xia Na ducked her head, laughing. “Then we just silence them… Don’t hit me; I’m just kidding. Seriously though, you’re always in touch with Yuwen Xuan, analyzing the situation for them. Why?”
“Well… on one hand, because I’m still human, of course. On the other hand, although F Team is currently weak, each superhuman holds significant long-term potential…” Ling Mo mused thoughtfully.
Xia Na quickly caught on. “I get it, just like with the Falcons—it’s an investment, right? It seems like you’re doing nothing, but you’re weaving a web among them with your every move, ultimately influencing them.”
“Although that’s a peculiar way to put it, you’re right. In the end, connections and resources are crucial,” Ling Mo nodded.
“Then… never mind, I won’t ask.”
“Hey, what’s that about?”
“Hehe, I’m not telling. Anyway, I’m really looking forward to the future…”
