Chapter 607 – The Glowing Jellyfish
“Boom!”
In the deep darkness, a dull thud echoed from afar, like the sound of something heavy hitting the ground.
“Black Silk, did you hear that?”
A small head poked out from around the corner, her distinct white and red eyes darting around cautiously as she peered into the dark hallway. “Could it be a corpse?”
She sniffed vigorously, then suddenly broke into an excited smile. “Those zombies… Xiao Bai must have lured them away! The scent is so strong over there!”
“Hee-hee! This is great!”
With that, the zombie Loli glanced at her shoulder.
It was completely soaked with blood. Beneath the torn fabric, a fresh pink mark could be seen amidst the bloodstains.
“Mm, it’s healed already,” Yu Shiran said, reaching out to touch the mark.
The healing ability of a Leader-Level Zombie was indeed terrifying. As long as the bones weren’t broken or vital organs weren’t damaged, injuries would heal quickly.
This was a unique trait of the virus, a special talent that endowed zombies with the fierceness of hunting beasts.
The higher the level of evolution, the faster the self-healing speed.
Couple this with the zombies’ relentless, fearless attacks, and it’s clear how much pressure that places on Survivors.
However, full limb regeneration hasn’t been achieved by any zombie yet.
At least, the zombie Loli couldn’t do it, so she conclusively decided that it wasn’t possible.
But the culprit behind this wound was something Yu Shiran couldn’t ignore—
That annoying zombie, the one that emits brain waves, like the Sausage Humans!
Despite her and Black Silk teaming up, they were still interfered with by that zombie’s strange techniques. Not only did they fail to kill it, but she also got injured in the process.
Coupled with Xiao Bai drawing the attention of that little monster and other zombies, Yu Shiran quickly activated her talent for ditching teammates and fled with Black Silk.
However, that pesky zombie kept chasing them, as if there was something about them that he found interesting…
What could he possibly find interesting?!
It was Black Silk who reminded her that it might be because of some energy connection between Black Silk and that Sausage Human!
“Damn Sausage Humans, always making their presence known!” Yu Shiran mentally cursed, reluctantly recalling this new term.
This connection couldn’t be severed so easily, and after all, Black Silk wouldn’t listen to her completely…
But giving up just like that left her feeling unsatisfied.
However, when she decided to return to the place, that zombie had disappeared without a trace.
Why did it stop following them? Yu Shiran couldn’t figure it out, nor would she bother to.
Anyway, it’s a good thing! Maybe it turned around to chase Xiao Bai?
Xiao Bai’s skin is thick and tough, taking a few hits wouldn’t be a big deal…
“The main thing is… we got it!”
As she spoke, Yu Shiran reached into her deep cleavage.
Two delicate white fingers pinched out a piece of translucent, jellyfish-like glowing substance. This thing was very elastic, quivering slightly between her fingers and emitting a faint glow.
The zombie Loli’s eyes lit up as she stared at the small object, involuntarily licking her lips.
“It was worth the risk to come back. Xiao Bai didn’t let us down; it really managed to hold them off.”
Turning the “jellyfish” over in her hands, the zombie Loli said with anticipation, “Black Silk, how do you think we use this thing? Eat it? It looks like…”
As she spoke, she eagerly extended the tip of her tongue.
However, just as she was about to lick the “jellyfish,” her small mouth suddenly snapped shut without warning.
“Ahhh!”
The zombie Loli widened her eyes, covering her mouth with her hands, her small feet stomping in place. She mumbled, “Black Silk, you…! Ugh, my tongue! This won’t grow back if it’s cut off!”
“Huh? What? You mean… the Sausage Humans are also in that direction?”
Yu Shiran slowly lowered her hand, a sly look suddenly appearing on her still-pained yet delicate face: “Isn’t this perfect? If they end up destroying each other, we could take the chance to get rid of him! Hahaha! I truly am a genius among zombies! Xia Na is no match for me! Seriously, they treat me with disdain just because I was only twelve years old when I was human, and now, as a zombie, my intelligence is judged to be no more than a six-year-old’s. Do they really understand?”
“Black Silk, let’s go! Who knows… hehe, maybe I’ll get to snag a couple of Sausages along the way!”
Reluctantly, the zombie Loli stuffed the “jellyfish” back into her neckline. Glancing outside to ensure the coast was clear, she darted out swiftly.
In the midst of the silent darkness, the zombie Loli suddenly whispered, “Black Silk, let’s get Xiao Bai back too.”
“What?! I-I-I don’t like it or anything! I’m a zombie! How could I like anything? That’s just common sense, you know? I just… I need… I mean… we can use it as transportation, and in a pinch, it can be rations! It would be a waste to let it die… Yes, that’s it.”
“No… don’t laugh! It’s just a dog, what’s so funny?! If you keep talking like this, I’ll tell that Sausage Human all about it! Believe me or not!”
…
“It worked,” Ling Mo said quietly, pulling Ye Lian as they rounded another corner, a hint of happiness in his voice.
“Wha… what?” Ye Lian asked.
Xia Na quickly pressed herself against the wall, her Scythe not idle for a moment as she skillfully struck down a zombie leaping at them from the side. “Ling-Ge means that Yu Shiran and Black Silk are following us.”
“Oh…” Ye Lian nodded with a mixed expression of comprehension.
“Ling-Ge, you ran this way on purpose for this, right? The further we move from the parking lot, the stronger the sensing becomes. But if we can sense them, couldn’t they also sense us?” Xia Na asked in confusion.
Ling Mo chuckled softly, “Not just for that reason. Besides, if they couldn’t sense us, why would they come? Zombies each have their own personalities too. Take Yu Shiran, for example – her character is way too easy to read.”
“Twelve years old, huh…”
“Her IQ must have been cut in half after mutation, right?”
“Cut in half?”
“Just one-tenth.”
“Oh…”
This time, both Ye Lian and Xia Na nodded in sudden understanding, their expressions in the darkness turning to eager anticipation.
Though ambushing was quite satisfying, sometimes setting a trap and waiting for the enemy to fall into it could be just as fun!
After leading the zombies in circles several more times, their numbers began to dwindle.
The Zombie Infant seemed to sense the danger, screeching incessantly, only to have Xia Na gag its mouth with a piece of torn cloth.
Ling Mo initially thought it was a bit inhumane, but when he reached out to remove the cloth, he saw the Zombie Infant’s mouth open wide.
Inside, a half-chewed straw quivered, while two rows of sharp, needle-like teeth went straight for his wrist.
Its eyes, full of cruelty and bloodlust, were fixed unwaveringly on Ling Mo’s carotid artery.
“Dealing with a monster like this… who needs to be humane!” Ling Mo shoved the cloth back into its mouth.
By this time, Yu Shiran and Black Silk had also reached the vicinity.
The zombie Loli, hidden in the back, listened to the chaotic sounds ahead and covered her mouth, laughing quietly. “If we add fuel to the fire when they’re fighting intensely… Alright, I know you won’t make a move, but can you let me do it? After all, we’re symbiotes…”
“Deal? Hehe, let’s move a bit closer.”
Squatting down, Yu Shiran quickly crept along the wall’s base and slipped into a small shop.
Crouching under a table, she watched the scene ahead with excitement, her eyes scanning the group of zombies rapidly.
“There he is!”
That Sausage Human hiding behind the female zombies, clearly up to some sneaky tricks!
When the zombies charged, their movements would suddenly turn erratic, and then the two female zombies would pounce, taking them down in a matter of moments.
“Ah, these foolish peers!” Yu Shiran grew anxious as she watched, realizing that at this rate, Ling Mo was going to win.
She continued scanning with her eyes and finally saw a white figure not far away.
“Xiao Bai!”
