Chapter 91 – Crow Walker
Lu Yuan could only express his sympathy for Wang Zhichao’s family’s misfortune.
He was grateful for Wang Zhichao’s actions last night, which drove away Lu Xinghua and his group. However, Wang Zhichao had been with the cultists of the Crow Deity sect for over two months, and his hands were probably not clean.
The truly innocent ones were his wife and children.
Lu Yuan couldn’t help but recall the horrifying sacrificial scenes he had witnessed at the Crow Deity sect’s hideout.
The family of four of the Man in a Vest, Chen Yang…
And Zhou Ling, who had died tragically to save him.
Suddenly losing his appetite, he went upstairs in a gloomy mood.
In the bedroom, at the desk.
An open book lay in front of Lu Yuan, a computer screen displaying surveillance footage on his left.
On his right was a small bucket filled with rice, burying his mobile phone.
Lu Yuan had just found this method online; it was said to be very effective for water-damaged electronic devices. Supposedly, eight out of ten water-damaged phones could be saved this way, though he wasn’t sure if it would actually work.
His gaze fell on the book cover, but in reality, he was still studying his professional panel.
The [Death Messenger (Extraordinary)] panel.
The [Death Messenger (Extraordinary)] panel, now at Level 3, was pitch black with no skills, except for three gray dots at the bottom waiting to be lit up.
“So, I need to spend skill points to activate them. I can’t just learn and comprehend them?”
Lu Yuan thought about it. Self-comprehension should still be possible.
But it would require joining the Crow Deity sect or finding a way to become a Divine Servant of the Crow Deity sect.
Considering the Crow Deity sect’s brutal method of using live human sacrifices, he would rather use skill points.
“Two skill points, three basic skills to unlock. For now, I can only unlock two of them.”
Lu Yuan stared at the three gray dots, hesitated slightly, then selected the last of the three gray dots.
He spent 1 skill point.
The chosen gray dot on the panel immediately lit up completely, and a notification popped up.
[Congratulations, you have unlocked the [Death Messenger (Extraordinary)] basic professional skill—Crow Language!]
[Basic Professional Skill: Crow Language Level 1 (0/100)]
There was no skill description, nor any visible phenomena generated.
The only change was that Lu Yuan seemed to have countless images of crows flash through his mind.
And then it felt like he could understand what crows were saying!
This feeling was hard to describe, like an innate ability.
Although Lu Yuan hadn’t conducted any experiments yet, his subconscious clearly informed him that he could now communicate with crows effortlessly.
“A druid? No, more like a crow walker.”
With a peculiar feeling, Lu Yuan stood up from the desk.
He left the house and went up the stairs to the rooftop.
The rooftop had become Lu Yuan’s personal space.
He usually practiced martial arts here, with few disturbances.
Lu Yuan’s home was in an older building, and the rooftop still had the original water tower from when the building was first constructed, though it was now abandoned.
The Concrete Block he used as a punching target was a few meters away from the water tower.
Lu Yuan walked to the shade of the abandoned water tower and, facing the glaring sky, tried to activate the [Crow Language] skill.
“Buzz—”
The moment the skill was activated, he immediately felt a strange transformation in his Mental Power.
This weak superpower, which he had comprehended due to his increased intelligence, usually radiated outwards like a glowing light bulb.
When Lu Yuan used it, the brightness of the light bulb would increase, the light would become stronger, and the radiation range would expand.
However, now, this state had changed.
It no longer resembled a glowing light bulb but had become like a vibrating string.
Constantly being plucked, emitting invisible “mental sound waves” with an inexplicable rhythm.
Lu Yuan seemed to see those invisible ripples spreading outwards from him in all directions.
“Maybe intelligence is also a hidden prerequisite for mastering and using this skill.”
Lu Yuan mused.
The call of his Mental Power soon received a response.
In the distance, Lu Yuan saw a black dot appear in the sky.
Then two, three, four.
More and more.
He hurriedly stopped activating the skill and extinguished the call.
In just a short moment, Lu Yuan had already summoned about fifty or sixty crows.
These noisy black creatures flapped their wings and landed directly around the water tower where Lu Yuan stood, surrounding him without any foul smell.
As soon as the crows landed, Lu Yuan immediately sensed dozens of voices, carrying countless fragments of information, flooding into his mind.
“White building… food… water source.”
“Humans… danger… cats…”
“Satisfaction… hunger… uh uh uh…”
These voices were sharp, noisy, and unpleasant to hear, transmitting information that was jumbled and illogical.
Within just a few seconds, Lu Yuan couldn’t stand it anymore and shouted, “Shut up! Stop!”
Instantly, all the voices ceased, and the information flow became incredibly pure—
Each crow was continuously transmitting emotions of fear to him.
“Phew—”
Lu Yuan finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Just as he was pondering how to communicate normally with these little creatures, he suddenly noticed a woman on the rooftop of the residential building opposite, staring at him with wide eyes.
Lu Yuan was momentarily stunned, then hurriedly waved off a few crows that were particularly close to him, pretending to be annoyed by them.
Out of the corner of his eye, he watched the woman on the opposite building until she turned away with a suspicious look.
“Phew—”
Lu Yuan let out another sigh of relief but quickly realized that his current actions were indeed a bit conspicuous and strange. If someone saw and recorded a video to post online, it could cause trouble.
He didn’t want to be mistaken for an accomplice of the Crow Deity sect and get caught by Yellow Bear’s people.
So, he only kept two crows and temporarily dispersed the rest.
Then he quickly went downstairs and returned to his bedroom.
The experiment continued.
And it was relatively smooth.
Contrary to Lu Yuan’s expectations, although the skill was named [Crow Language], the communication with the crows was entirely carried out through mental interaction.
He could perceive the consciousness, emotions, and even some peculiar and blurry memory images transmitted by each crow.
The only obstacle, ironically, was the crows themselves.
Their ability to convey information still needed significant improvement, and Lu Yuan had to exert considerable effort to barely understand what they were trying to communicate.
There was also a cognitive gap in how the crows perceived and described things.
“It looks like I need to conduct some basic training,” Lu Yuan thought as he grabbed a handful of rice from the small bucket on his desk and scattered it in front of the bedroom window, watching the two crows peck at the grains.
The [Crow Language] skill was indeed very useful.
If he could have a group of crows that could interact with him fluently, there would be countless ways to utilize them.
Next time he encountered something like the Crow Deity sect’s hideout, he wouldn’t have to take the risk of barging in. He could send the crows in to scout first.
Or, if he found himself in some place, he could arrange for the crows to keep watch at the entrance.
And then there were the Ratman of the Cavern Sect who lurked in the shadows, making him restless. He might finally have a way to flush them out.
