Chapter 680 – Given Wings, Should Be Braised
“Let go…”
Bird Zombie kicked again, smashing internal organ pieces mixed with a large amount of blood that flowed constantly from the Zombie Puppet’s mouth.
Its expression was somewhat collapsing. Although zombies are known for their tenacity, this was pushing the limits!
Moreover, this zombie wasn’t just fighting based on instinct; even in this dire situation, its actions were surprisingly skillful.
Using its own body, it successfully blocked Bird Zombie’s kicks, protecting the most vulnerable chest and head areas.
In a fit of rage, Bird Zombie could only twist its body to grab the Zombie Puppet’s hair.
At this moment, out of the corner of its eye, it glimpsed a Dark Shadow.
As soon as its gaze met those red eyes, a dark cylindrical object was hurled straight at it.
“What is that?!”
Bird Zombie instinctively sensed danger—this scene was all too familiar!
Past traps had taught Bird Zombie a fundamental truth: anything that flies out of the darkness should never be touched!
“Let go right now!”
Bird Zombie’s eyes were fixed on the cylindrical object, while its claws had already grabbed hold of the Zombie Puppet’s hair.
A surge of excitement welled up again, and Bird Zombie felt its fingertips trembling with exhilaration.
Finally! It was about to rid itself of this pest!
Were it not for the lack of human-like emotions, Bird Zombie would be shedding tears for its thoughts.
To think that a dignified King level Zombie had fallen to this point…
Could it get any more humiliating?
Just as it was about to end this shameful chapter, the cylindrical object neared its head, now midway in the air.
Bird Zombie let out a mocking laugh; whatever was thrown this time had no chance of touching it…
“Snap!”
A stick emitting flames was suddenly tossed from the Dark Shadow’s hand.
“Huh?”
Bird Zombie’s attention was instantly drawn to the stick. Just at that moment, there was a “clang” above its head, followed by a large bucket of strange-smelling Liquid pouring down on it.
Bird Zombie was doused completely, its hunched posture making it feel a chilling cold down to its core.
Its nest-like, disheveled Hair covered its eyes. Before Bird Zombie could react to this sudden change, the stick had already landed at its feet.
As soon as it glimpsed a spark on the ground, Bird Zombie felt a rush of heat surge upwards.
“Ahhh!”
At the last moment, Bird Zombie managed to tear off the Zombie Puppet’s head, but the head remained stuck to its leg and quickly turned into a fireball.
“Ahhh!”
Bird Zombie shrieked incessantly, but its speed and strength were useless in extinguishing the flames.
Watching the flaming Bird Zombie frantically running around in the spreading fire, with a round fireball attached to its leg, the Dark Shadow stood dumbfounded.
“Huff… huff…”
Outside the Mall, Ling Mo leaned against a utility pole, panting heavily.
Sweat had soaked his bangs, and his face was as pale as a ghost.
Splitting his attention was already challenging, but managing two sides at once was almost unbearable. The hardest part was that when the first Zombie Puppet entered a near-death state, its strong survival instinct made controlling it incredibly difficult for Ling Mo.
In the final moment, he barely managed to sever the psychic link in time.
Just thinking about almost “personally experiencing” the feeling of having his neck torn apart made Ling Mo’s eye twitch.
But… he did it!
“Given wings, should be braised… I can’t believe I got to see the real-life version of that,” Ling Mo couldn’t help but think.
“Ahhh!”
Bird Zombie continued to scream, and the fire spread rapidly.
The area was already dry and filled with flammable small goods, including a large amount of clothing. Even a tiny spark could ignite the place, let alone this.
After standing still for a moment, the Dark Shadow started moving again. This time, it didn’t throw any more sticks but instead began tossing the burning items around.
Once the surroundings were almost entirely ablaze, the Dark Shadow lunged at the Bird Zombie again.
Bird Zombie’s eyelids were so scorched it couldn’t open them. Surrounded by heat and thick smoke, it had no sense of direction to escape.
Just as it planned to charge blindly, it was suddenly tackled by the Dark Shadow.
Upon landing, the two zombies rolled in the sea of flames due to inertia.
“Crack!” Despite being a large fireball, Bird Zombie still had the capacity to act. It reached out, grabbed a part of the other zombie, yanked it off forcefully, and then kicked the zombie away.
It got up again and charged forward.
“Bang!”
Bird Zombie slammed into a wall, then quickly turned around and rushed in another direction.
Ling Mo reflexively patted himself a couple of times to shake off the lingering dread from controlling the Zombie Puppet through the fire.
He squinted towards the Mall entrance and saw Ye Lian running out, carrying Thor.
“Over here!” Ling Mo waved at her.
Ye Lian ran towards him but couldn’t help looking back.
“Don’t look back. With this fire, we’d be in danger if we went in,” Ling Mo said as she reached him.
A plume of black smoke was already wafting out of the windows on that floor, with faint flickers of flames visible.
Ye Lian nodded, then circled around Ling Mo, inspecting him.
Ling Mo smiled, “I’m alright.”
Ye Lian stopped in front of him, her big eyes staring at Ling Mo. Suddenly, she raised her hand and wiped the Sweat from his forehead with her palm.
“Thank you, Ye Lian.”
Ling Mo grabbed her wrist, pressing her cool palm against his cheek.
Ye Lian’s movements stopped abruptly; her deep eyes locked with Ling Mo’s, but she didn’t say a word.
“That shot you took just now was excellent-the timing, the angle, absolutely perfect,” Ling Mo praised with a smile.
If not for their seamless teamwork, setting a King level Zombie on fire wouldn’t have been so easy.
Simply setting a fire would have been detected before it could even ignite…
So many factors contributed to this successful attempt.
Even so, Ling Mo had to sacrifice two Zombie Puppets.
Ye Lian smiled softly, her gentle fingers caressing Ling Mo’s face.
Reluctantly, Ling Mo released her wrist and glanced back towards the Mall.
“Bang!”
The glass window suddenly shattered as a large burst of Flame and thick black smoke billowed out.
“No, we need to leave here immediately.”
Who knew how long this fire would burn? The Flames and explosions would attract a massive number of Zombies.
Ye Lian looked visibly fatigued, and Ling Mo’s condition was even worse.
“We’ll come back after the fire dies down.” Ling Mo gave the window one last glance, already Sensing a large number of psychic light clusters heading their way.
“Let’s go!”
He grasped Ye Lian’s hand and began running towards the other end of the street.
But after just a couple of steps, Ling Mo’s vision went black, and he fell forward.
The continuous high-intensity exertion had left Ling Mo extremely fatigued.
Escaping successfully and setting Bird Zombie on fire gave Ling Mo a sense of relief, and his previously tense mind finally relaxed.
Ye Lian quickly caught Ling Mo, pulling him back. When she anxiously checked him, she found that although he had his eyes closed, his breathing was steady.
He had fallen asleep in this situation…
Ye Lian supported Ling Mo, looking around in bewilderment.
On the empty street, it was just her and Ling Mo standing there…
“Wait…”
Inside the Hotel, Mu Chen, who had been talking non-stop for about ten minutes, suddenly stood up and rushed to the window.
Although it was blurry, he could vaguely see a column of black smoke…
“Is it on fire? Did Ling Mo and the others do this?” Mu Chen asked, frowning.
Xu Shuhan didn’t respond. She didn’t even bother to stand up and check.
Mu Chen stared at the black smoke, a look of confusion on his face.
Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed something on the street below.
“They’re back!”
Mu Chen’s face lit up with excitement as he saw those familiar figures supporting each other, moving along the street towards the Hotel.
Hearing this, Xu Shuhan finally reacted, raising her eyelids.
“That’s great!” Mu Chen shouted in excitement, but then he noticed Xu Shuhan staring at him.
He quickly cleared his throat and said, “I didn’t mean it like that…”
