Chapter 28 – Consecutive Breakthroughs
Volume 1: Apocalypse Beginning
"Pah." Guan Tao spat fiercely at the Zombie on the ground, now completely unrecognizable.
Then he stomped and crushed the Zombie's skull.
"Challenge successful. Reward: 300 Points. Would you like to challenge the next round?"
"Give up." Guan Tao looked disappointed. Even though he knew it was impossible for the challenge to end at just four rounds, he couldn't help but hope for a moment.
Besides, his injuries wouldn't allow him to keep fighting.
Madness mixed with calmness-this was the man's combat instinct.
"Tao-Ge, are you alright?" Wan Ping rushed forward as soon as he saw Guan Tao being teleported out, quickly handing over his Primary Healing Potion.
Guan Tao didn't stand on ceremony and gulped the potion down.
He felt a warm current surge through his body, his wounds stopped bleeding rapidly, and Guan Tao sighed.
"If my injuries weren't so bad, I was planning to keep challenging. Too bad one of my hands can't move."
Guan Tao looked gloomy.
"You've done really well, Boss. We struggled even with the third round," Wan Ping comforted him.
"Mm." Guan Tao's expression improved a bit, and after a moment of thought,
"I've noticed something."
"What is it?" Not only did Wan Ping and the other two lean in, even Wen Yu perked up his ears.
"Damn, I'm really a genius. Did you see that? Just now, I did a Flying Kick…" Guan Tao's mood changed faster than flipping a book. His previously depressed face instantly vanished, replaced by a look of pride.
"Pfft." Not only did Wan Ping and the other two look disgusted, even Wen Yu couldn't help but laugh.
Seeing Wen Yu couldn't hold back and laughed out loud, Guan Tao realized there was an outsider here. Once he started bragging, he couldn't stop himself.
He gave Wen Yu an embarrassed smile.
"This guy is really something," Wen Yu thought, watching Guan Tao struggle between wanting to brag and feeling awkward, looking as if he was constipated. The corners of his mouth stretched wider and wider.
…
"Since you guys have finished your challenge, I'll start mine," Wen Yu said to the group.
These guys didn't have much to begin with, and they'd just used up a bottle of Primary Healing Potion, so Wen Yu had lost any interest in robbing them.
"Go ahead, brother. Mind if we watch from the side?"
Guan Tao was very curious about Wen Yu's combat ability. The little orb floating above Wen Yu's shoulder was just too eye-catching. Plus, Wen Yu looked calm and relaxed, clearly not concerned about the Level 1 Primary Zombie.
Guan Tao considered his own evolution speed to be very fast. At least among the Class Holders he'd met these past few days, he was the strongest, so naturally he wanted to see how Wen Yu measured up.
"No problem, I don't mind." Letting you watch is fine-I'm just worried the shock might be too much for you.
Wen Yu was very confident in his own strength. Not just among survivors-even among mutant creatures, there were only a handful in all of Mudanjiang City who could match him.
He placed his hand on the Stone Platform and heard the prompt asking if he wanted to begin the challenge. Wen Yu silently thought "Yes," and was then teleported into the Arena.
"Tao-Ge, this guy really knows how to act cool. You were so fierce just now, but he didn't show any expression at all. At first I thought he was just stone-faced," Lin Li said, glancing at Wen Yu as he was teleported into the Arena.
"This guy must have some skills. Did you see that little orb on his shoulder?" Wan Ping eyed the Little Soul Beast.
"I was just wondering what that thing was. I thought maybe he was doing some magic trick, but then I saw it move-it looks alive," Wan An explained.
"Nowadays, even professions have been created, just like playing a game. Who knows, maybe this kid has some kind of treasure or something," Guan Tao whispered. "This kid must have some skills. Let's watch first. If he's not strong enough, once he leaves, he can't blame us for killing him and taking his loot. Wealth moves the heart, it's always been that way."
The others nodded lightly.
Wen Yu was naturally unaware of the little schemes of the people below the Arena. Hearing the prompt that the challenge had begun, he immediately prepared for battle.
First, the ordinary Zombies in the first two rounds-Wen Yu decapitated each one with a single slash, tossing the rewards onto the ground without even glancing at them.
"That doesn't show us much," Lin Li muttered.
Wan Ping glanced at Lin Li. "Not really. At the very least, he's got rich combat experience, and his strikes are fast, precise, and ruthless. His physical attributes must be very high."
On the Arena, Wen Yu relaxed his shoulders slightly-a small habit of his when fighting at full strength. Wen Yu had no intention of holding back; crushing his opponents with full force was his favorite fighting style. He had no interest in playing cat and mouse.
On the third round of the Arena, a Level 1 Early-stage Zombie appeared. Wen Yu saw the Zombie just as it was teleported in. He powered up his legs, his body shot forward, and then his War Blade came crashing down.
The Zombie hadn't even recovered from the dizziness of the teleportation before Wen Yu's blade struck its forehead. The War Blade sliced downward without the slightest resistance, explosive force bursting through the Zombie's body, splitting it cleanly in two.
The two halves of the corpse flew sideways, leaving only a cloud of blood mist that slowly dissipated in the air.
The four people below the Arena didn't even have time to react. They'd expected to watch an action-packed fight, but the Zombie didn't even have time to scream before Wen Yu sliced it in two with a single blow.
They stared blankly at the figure standing on the Arena.
"What-what just happened? Is it dead already?" Wan An hadn't yet recovered from the shock of the instant kill and mumbled his question.
Guan Tao swallowed hard. "It's dead. That was way too easy."
"And judging by how fast he rushed out, his physical attributes are way higher than Tao-Ge's. I've never seen a human this strong before, so there's no way to judge what his stats are. Anyway, he's strong-too strong," Wan Ping said, a bit more calmly, though his face was still full of shock.
"So, uh, are we still going to rob him?" Lin Li's voice was even quieter, almost like a mosquito, afraid someone might hear.
Guan Tao stared intently at Wen Yu on the Arena, completely ignoring Lin Li's foolish question.
"Challenge successful. Reward: one bottle of Primary Healing Potion. Would you like to challenge the next round?"
Perhaps it was just their imagination, but everyone present felt that the previously cold and steady electronic voice now seemed to show a hint of emotion.
"Yes."
Wen Yu didn't hesitate, stuffing the Primary Healing Potion into the inner pocket of his Protective Suit and charging straight toward the flashing white light.
As the white light faded, the people below hadn't even recovered from the glare before they saw three heads rolling on the ground. Wen Yu still stood calmly on the Arena. This time, even Lin Li, who usually talked the most, didn't dare say another word.
"Challenge successful. Reward: 300 Points. Would you like to continue the challenge?"
"Continue."
