Chapter 91 – The Mission Begins!
Volume 2: Battlefield Between Two Worlds
"I hope you can survive!"
There was a sense of desolation in Walhi's voice that left Wen Yu feeling slightly conflicted. For a moment, he couldn't even tell if this was just a virtual character or a real living being.
As Walhi gradually faded into the distance, Wen Yu took the lead and stepped into the warehouse.
It was called a warehouse, but by Wen Yu's estimation, it was actually a secret escape tunnel.
The winding earthen passage led to parts unknown. Lamps lined both sides of the tunnel, ensuring there wasn't a hint of darkness.
The ventilation was excellent. As Wen Yu and the others continued deeper, they felt no sense of stuffiness at all.
In less than five minutes, Wen Yu spotted a slender figure dressed in white ahead of them.
The targets of this escort mission-the Princess Consort and the Fourth Prince!
…
"Has Walhi already left?"
The Princess Consort spoke immediately upon seeing Wen Yu's group.
Wen Yu nodded.
"The hope of the Silver Moon Clan is now in the hands of you brave warriors!"
The Princess Consort gave them a radiant smile, momentarily dazing Wen Yu.
Fortunately, the Class Holders in the team who had survived this long weren't idiots; no one harbored any wicked thoughts. After all, everyone knew that this seemingly fragile woman and the infant in her arms were their literal lifelines!
"We shall follow your arrangements, Your Highness."
Wen Yu gave the Princess Consort a military salute he had learned from Walhi.
The Princess Consort nodded and led the way further into the tunnel.
As the light from the exit grew brighter, the group soon emerged from the passage.
The tunnel exit was located at the foot of a massive mountain!
Silver Moon Holy City was surrounded by walls on three sides, but this mountain range served as a natural defensive line.
"To the east. Based on the pace of a Level 2 Class Holder, our destination is about ten days away."
The Princess Consort pointed toward the east as she addressed the group.
"For the remainder of the journey, I must rely on you brave warriors to protect me and my child. Fina thanks you all!"
"Fina, huh?"
Wen Yu repeated the name in his mind. It was a pleasant name.
"By the way, Your Highness."
Wen Yu directly opened his Second Soul Realm and summoned One-Eye.
"If you and the Prince ride my summoned creature, we should be able to move much faster, right?"
Fina gave Wen Yu a faint smile, but her words were not what he wanted to hear.
"I thank you for your kindness, warrior, but the Fourth Prince is too young. I fear he cannot withstand such heavy jolting."
Well, that was a perfectly valid reason.
With that, Wen Yu's hopes of taking a shortcut were completely dashed.
"Hey, you've got quite the schemes, don't you? If that dog of yours really starts running, I doubt a single Level 2 Class Holder could keep up!"
Behind him, Chu Ziling lowered his voice and spoke to Wen Yu.
Wen Yu responded with a massive eye-roll.
"If I could finish this mission early, I wouldn't give a damn whether the rest of you lived or died! But it looks like we'll have to take it one step at a time!"
"Let us go,"
Fina said to everyone with a smile, taking the lead toward the east.
Her pace wasn't slow. Judging by her speed, this woman had a Physical Attribute of around 30 Points. Furthermore, since she was carrying a child, even the Class Holder with the lowest Physical Attribute could easily keep up with her.
This also meant that the Demonic Creatures could keep up as well!
…
"Did you know?"
"Shimmer Blue Star was once a beautiful planet. Over eighty percent of its surface was land, and ninety percent of that land was covered in lush jungle."
"I can feel the planet's former greatness from the records left behind."
"Back then, Shimmer Blue Star was home to countless creatures. Our Silver Moon Clan was just one of them. Every member of the Silver Moon Clan loved peace and yearned for nature."
"In those days, every household would raise a few Dilu Beasts. You've never seen a Dilu Beast, have you?"
Wen Yu slowly shook his head.
"I've only seen them in videos. Those little guys were about this high."
Fina made a casual gesture, indicating a height of about half a meter.
"They looked like little balls of fur with big, twinkling eyes and two small wings that couldn't actually fly. Whenever a family had a newborn, they would go to the market to buy a Dilu Beast to be the child's playmate."
Fina grew more animated as she spoke.
"This place used to be called the Yalu Forest. It produced a vast quantity of a certain plant we called the Hope Tree."
"The fruit of the Hope Tree was the primary staple of the Silver Moon Clan. According to the records, a mature Hope Tree could reach over thirty meters in height, and its annual yield was enough to feed a hundred adults for a year! The fruit from this forest alone was enough to sustain the entire Silver Moon Clan."
"Moreover, there used to be hundreds of thousands of species living in this jungle! I've heard there were creatures that flew in the sky, swam in the water, and ran on the ground-everything! Heavens, I can't even imagine Shimmer Blue Star having so much life!"
"Back then, the sky was blue, you could see the stars at night, and the moon in the sky was still silver…"
Fina's voice grew lower and more somber because all they could see now was a vast expanse of yellow sand.
The Apocalypse had destroyed everything beautiful.
"I'm sorry, I've talked too much."
Fina gave an apologetic smile.
"I've lived in the Silver Moon Holy City my entire life and have never left the city walls. My understanding of the outside world is limited to video records. I didn't expect that the first time I left the city, what I saw would be so different from what I saw in the records."
Fina's words were filled with dejection.
Wen Yu looked at Fina intently.
This woman appeared dignified, but that was merely a matter of etiquette. At her core, she was not much different from a young girl who had never experienced the real world.
"Let's go."
Wen Yu couldn't think of a way to comfort Fina's emotions, so he could only remind her to face the reality before them.
"Yes."
Upon hearing Wen Yu's words, Fina immediately tucked away her previous demeanor and stepped back into her role as the Princess Consort.
Amidst the swirling yellow sand, a group of several dozen people walked further and further away.
…
After walking for less than five hours, the sky had turned completely dark.
"Princess Fina, let's set up camp here,"
Wen Yu said to Fina.
Although Wen Yu was anxious to complete this mission quickly, seeing Fina drenched in sweat made him realize that as long as Fina and the Little Prince were with them, they wouldn't be able to move fast!
If it was said to be a ten-day journey, it would take ten days-it would only be slower, not faster.
"Alright."
Following Fina's response, William and Jiang Wentao immediately began directing the group to get busy.
