A fierce wind whipped across his cheeks, and the large grains of sand caused Wen Yu a prickle of pain.

As the sensation of pain registered, Wen Yu slowly regained consciousness.

He felt a slight swaying beneath him; he could tell he was being carried on someone's back.

Wen Yu opened his eyes slightly, but all he saw was pitch-black darkness!

He couldn't see a thing!

"I'm blind…"

Wen Yu's voice was raspy, and a sharp, searing pain immediately flared in his throat.

"Yeah, your injuries are severe. Honestly, I'm surprised you're even alive right now!"

Wen Yu recognized the voice of the person carrying him-it was Sun Ruixing.

"Yeah, I can't feel anything anymore, like I'm paralyzed. By the looks of it, I'm probably crippled for good," Wen Yu said half-jokingly as he tried to sense the state of his body.

"The lower half of your body is completely gone, and you've lost at least half of your internal organs, including your heart… I just didn't expect you to still be able to talk. To be honest, if Sun-Ge hadn't insisted on bringing you along, I wouldn't have bothered with someone in your state!"

This time, the one who spoke was Chu Ziling.

In truth, if not for the power of the Flesh Tome, Wen Yu would definitely be dead! Furthermore, Wen Yu was still in a Combat State. Once that state was deactivated and the buff from the Flesh Tome was gone, Wen Yu would die instantly!

"Are you okay?"

"What about Jiang Wentao?"

Chu Ziling and Sun Ruixing suddenly fell silent.

William and Monkey were definitely dead; Wen Yu had seen the state of their corpses with his own eyes.

However, Jiang Wentao had definitely escaped the blast radius of the Bone Demon's self-destruction-the fact that Chu Ziling was holding the Fourth Prince proved that.

Yet now, there were only the footsteps of Sun Ruixing and Chu Ziling…

"I see," Wen Yu murmured to himself, already knowing the answer.

In the span of a day, it was impossible not to encounter any Demonic Creatures; Wen Yu knew this from his own experience on the road. The silence from the two men explained everything.

"It doesn't necessarily mean something happened. Old Jiang said he'd lead the Demonic Creatures away and then come back for us."

Chu Ziling's voice grew lower and more somber. Jiang Wentao had been gone for nearly fifteen hours.

If he were able to return, he would have caught up by now.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry to you both, and even more sorry to them!"

Wen Yu spoke in a low, heavy voice.

"What's there to be sorry for?" Chu Ziling said, trying to sound nonchalant.

In reality, anyone with a normal level of intelligence could understand why Wen Yu was apologizing.

Wen Yu had taken all the treasures, but everyone else had to bear the cost-and for that price, they had given everything!

Even if there had been an element of greed involved, after surviving such a brutal battle, Wen Yu felt compelled to say "I'm sorry" and "thank you" to these fallen warriors.

"Roar…"

A violent roar echoed from the distance, drawing closer by the second.

Chu Ziling heard the roar behind him and paused for a brief moment. Then, he silently handed the Fourth Prince, whom he had been carrying, over to Sun Ruixing.

"This time, it's my turn. I'll leave the rest to you, Sun-Ge. Get the Fourth Prince out of here."

He added, "By the way, if I survive, I'll catch up."

Before his voice had even faded, Chu Ziling's entire body erupted in white flames. He sprinted toward the source of the sound, looking like a meteor streaking with white light.

As Sun Ruixing moved forward at the fastest pace the Fourth Prince could withstand, the sounds of intense combat echoed continuously from the distance.

There were the hideous shrieks of Demonic Creatures and the roars of Chu Ziling. Then, a massive explosion occurred, followed by a wave of heat.

Everything ended in a very short time.

Including the Demonic Creatures.

Including Chu Ziling.

"They were good men."

At this point, Wen Yu could only say that much. Although it was useless to the dead, it made Wen Yu feel slightly better.

"Yes."

From his position on Sun Ruixing's back, Wen Yu could feel Sun Ruixing nodding heavily.

"Put me down. Take the Fourth Prince and go on your own. In my current state, I'll only slow you down,"

Wen Yu said seriously to Sun Ruixing.

Given Wen Yu's physical condition, calling him a burden was an understatement. If it were anyone else, Wen Yu would have abandoned them without hesitation.

But the man beneath him was Sun Ruixing.

Sun Ruixing didn't say a word, nor did he make any movement to stop. Like a machine, he carried Wen Yu and continued forward.

Ahead of them lay their only path to survival and hope!

The scorching wind wailed incessantly. Sun Ruixing lowered the water bottle from his mouth and brought it to Wen Yu's lips.

Gulp, gulp.

Wen Yu drank greedily. The water he swallowed flowed directly through the wound in his chest and onto Sun Ruixing's back.

"See? In this state, I can't even drink water. What's the point of carrying me?"

Wen Yu's tone was flat, as if he were merely advising Sun Ruixing to abandon the elderly people back in HL Town. He had repeated these words many times along the way.

It wasn't that Wen Yu had a death wish, but if the mission wasn't completed, everyone would die. Those who had already died would have died for nothing.

Wen Yu didn't want to die, but he wasn't afraid of it. Furthermore, in his current state, whether he lived or died was no longer up to him, nor was it up to Sun Ruixing.

The only ones who could decide were the unknown obstacles ahead-the Demonic Creatures that had yet to appear!

"No. If I leave you here, given your condition, you'll be killed by the heat by next noon. With me here, I can at least find you a spot in the shade."
