Chapter 128 – Slap!
Volume 2: Battlefield Between Two Worlds
"Slap!"
Bai Feifei's response to Zhang Lifei was a sharp slap to the face!
Though the sound was crisp, given that Bai Feifei had only recently Changed Class, the strike dealt almost no actual damage to Zhang Lifei.
Zhang Lifei looked at the woman before him in stunned silence. Seeing the hatred and fury etched into Bai Feifei's face, he eventually shook his head gently.
"I know what I did was wrong…"
"Slap!"
Another slap!
"Tsk."
Zhang Lifei let out a bitter laugh and nodded slightly.
"I know you're very angry right now…"
"Slap!!!"
"Xiao'an… he was my only family left…"
"Slap!"
"I've been without parents since I was a child. I raised Xiao'an myself. He wasn't just my younger brother; he was like a son to me!"
Bai Feifei's tone was cold and flat.
But the calmer and flatter she sounded, the more it emphasized the sheer depth of her rage!
"Slap!"
"First I followed Li Quan'an, then Sun Aotian, and then you. Why do you think I did all that? Wasn't it just so Xiao'an could stay alive?"
Bai Feifei's voice grew louder and louder until, finally, she was screaming at Zhang Lifei at the top of her lungs.
"Slap!"
"Slap!"
"Slap…"
The crisp sound of slapping rang out repeatedly.
Due to the disparity in their strength, it was impossible for Bai Feifei to cause Zhang Lifei any real harm. However, she wasn't trying to hurt him.
She just wanted to vent.
The surrounding people watched in silence; no one stepped forward.
That was, until Zhang Lifei's gaze grew increasingly cold.
"Slap!!!"
This slap was far louder than any of the previous ones!
Because this time, it was Zhang Lifei who had struck Bai Feifei!
The immense force slammed into Bai Feifei's face, leaving five distinct, bloody welts across her skin!
Given Zhang Lifei's strength, if he hadn't intentionally controlled his power, that single blow would have been enough to kill her.
Bai Feifei stumbled back several steps, unable to find her balance, and collapsed onto the ground.
She looked up, staring in shock at Zhang Lifei's cold expression, momentarily oblivious even to the injury on her face.
Zhang Lifei took a towel from a nearby Class Holder and gently wiped the blood from his hand as he spoke slowly.
"I know I was in the wrong for what happened, and I apologized to you. I knew you were in a bad mood, so I let you hit me a few times. But why do you have to be so ungrateful?"
"From the time I was a child, my parents rarely hit me. You slapped me once, I endured it. Twice, three times, I could still endure it. Even in front of all these people, I put up with it. But why couldn't you just stop?"
"Now, I will say this to you one last time: I. Am. Sorry!"
"Let this matter end here. I'll have a grave set up for Xiao'an."
Bai Feifei sat slumped on the ground, clutching her face. She stared blankly at Zhang Lifei, who showed not a shred of genuine remorse, and spoke in despair.
"Sorry? He's gone. What use is saying sorry? What use is it?!"
Listening to her pained, desperate screams, Zhang Lifei replied indifferently.
"Saying sorry is useful-very useful. At the very least, coming from me, an apology expresses my attitude. And my attitude determines the outcome of this matter! As for whether it's useful to you…"
"I'm sorry, but you seem to have forgotten your place. I thought you were smart and knew how to read the situation, but now I see you're actually quite stupid."
"You're nothing more than a whore. I took you to bed only because you have a bit of beauty. Did you really start thinking of yourself as my wife? Did you really think you were the mistress of this Camp?"
"Do women like you, who rely on a bit of looks, really think you have me wrapped around your finger? Who do you think I, Zhang Lifei, am?"
"When I say I'm sorry, you should say: 'It's okay, Fei-Ge.' You shouldn't SLAP! MY! FACE!"
Zhang Lifei's voice grew louder and louder until he was roaring at Bai Feifei.
Bai Feifei didn't even have the strength to withstand the pressure of his roar.
Her eyes glazed over from the sheer volume of the sound, and a thin trail of blood leaked from her ears.
"Stupid bitch!"
Seeing her state and feeling his slightly reddened cheek-compounded by the lingering fear of his recent brush with death-a surge of malice rose within Zhang Lifei. He stepped forward, raising his right hand high.
Judging by the force in his arm and his contorted expression, Zhang Lifei intended to kill Bai Feifei with a single blow!
"Enough!"
Zhang Lifei's raised hand was caught. He struggled for a moment, but the hand gripping his wrist remained motionless!
It was Sun Ruixing!
"You've already disciplined her. Stop!"
Sun Ruixing looked at Zhang Lifei with a very serious expression. His stern gaze told Zhang Lifei that he was definitely intervening.
Zhang Lifei paused for a moment. His savage expression vanished instantly, replaced by a forced smile directed at Sun Ruixing.
"Since Uncle Sun says so, I know what to do."
Shaking his head slightly, Zhang Lifei pulled his hand back. He turned around and spoke to Li Shanlin, who was standing to the side.
"Uncle Shanlin, when we get back, arrange for this woman to clean the toilets."
"Understood, Xiao Fei."
Li Shanlin nodded. He looked at Bai Feifei-who was currently suffering through both physical and mental trauma-with a face full of pity, but he said nothing.
"Come on, I'll take you back!"
Sun Ruixing looked at Bai Feifei sitting on the ground, his heart trembling.
At the thought that his own daughter might be going through something similar, a certain look flickered in Sun Ruixing's eyes as he looked at Bai Feifei.
However, when he reached out, Bai Feifei slapped his hand away.
"Sigh."
Sun Ruixing let out a heavy sigh. After a moment of hesitation, he turned and walked away.
Sun Ruixing wanted to intervene, but unfortunately, being able to save Bai Feifei's life was already his limit.
Zhang Lifei had said he was letting Bai Feifei go for Sun Ruixing's sake, but wasn't it actually for Wen Yu's sake? Sun Ruixing really couldn't ask for anything more!
Wen Yu, who had watched the events unfold from the side, shook his head and turned toward his room.
Behind him, Sun Ruixing and Sun Aotian quickly caught up to his pace.
"Wen Yu-Ge…"
Sun Aotian spoke hesitantly, but the words died in his throat.
"What is it? Do you still have feelings for Bai Feifei?" Wen Yu turned back and asked Sun Aotian with a slight smile.
Sun Aotian shook his head.
"It's not that. It's just that seeing Bai Feifei like that… I can't help but feel sympathy for her."
"I feel sympathetic too. I think you should do something about it!"
It was Sun Ruixing who spoke!
Wen Yu stared at Sun Ruixing's solemn face and spoke seriously.
"Yes. I sympathize with her too. After all, Bai Feifei lost her only relative, and she even let her own benefactor cause his death!"
Wen Yu nodded in agreement.
"However, sympathy itself is just a psychological reaction. As the saying goes: 'There is always something detestable about a person in a wretched state.' Everything Bai Feifei did to survive wasn't wrong; in fact, it was quite admirable. The fact that it ended like this is indeed tragic. But her mistake was failing to see the situation clearly. Who can be blamed for Bai Xiao'an's death? You must realize that being weak is the greatest original sin!"
Wen Yu turned back and looked at Sun Ruixing earnestly.
"Do you know how many people are killed in this world every day? Too many. So many that no one can possibly manage it all. Do those people not have relatives? No. When people die, they are simply dead. The dead always evoke sympathy, but if you look at the essence of it, I can only say that most of those who die deserve it!"
"If you are weak and have bad luck, who can you blame for your death? In this world, you have to rely on yourself for everything!"
Seeing the slight look of disappointment on Sun Ruixing's face, Wen Yu turned to Sun Aotian.
"Before I leave, I'll teach you one last thing. There are too many things in this world that deserve sympathy; no one can take care of them all. Having such compassion is a good thing; it proves you are still human. But do not let your sympathy control you."
"Furthermore, regarding this specific matter, Bai Feifei does not deserve sympathy! She treated everyone as her protective umbrella. The moment she saw someone stronger, she would abandon her previous benefactor without hesitation. Anyone with eyes can see what she's about. Therefore, no one will ever truly consider her one of their own."
"The most critical point is that she is too weak! Truly too weak!"
Wen Yu shook his head with a sigh, feeling a sense of resonance in his heart. This was because something similar had once happened between him and the Fourth Prince.
Are words like 'I'm sorry' or 'thank you' useful? They are. When a strong person says 'I'm sorry,' it can solve all problems-because the weak have no choice but to listen! Just like when the Fourth Prince said 'thank you' back then; even if Wen Yu didn't want to hear it, what use would that have been?
That kind of apology is actually more like an act of charity!
When a weak person says 'I'm sorry,' it's just a joke. The strong can deal with the weak in any way they please, regardless of whether the apology is sincere or not.
This situation actually existed even before the Apocalypse. The difference was that before the Apocalypse, the power gap between most humans was negligible, and they had the weapon of the law to rely on. Back then, a 'sorry' could actually resolve some issues.
But when the legal order vanished, everything came to rely on absolute strength as the foundation!
Without power, you have no voice. You have no ability to be the Ruler of your own life. You deserve to die! Without power, no one will even listen to your apology! Without power, you can't even resist the lowest level of oppression!
Wen Yu had come to understand these things deeply during his life as Cannon Fodder in his previous existence.
In this so-called Apocalypse, the things that changed weren't just the Exchange Pillar, the Exchange System, and Point. What hit closer to home for everyone was the change in human perception and ideology. Bai Feifei was clearly too slow to change…
The crowd that had been standing around Bai Feifei gradually dispersed. Perhaps some among them felt a trace of sympathy for her. However, keeping that sympathy in their hearts was fine; if they actually did anything about it, they would only offend Zhang Lifei.
Between befriending Bai Feifei and offending Zhang Lifei, let alone these people, even Wen Yu-who possessed absolute strength in the Camp-knew how to choose! A woman who couldn't see the situation clearly versus the future Boss of the Camp. Was there even a choice? It wasn't about morality; it was about interests!
As the crowd thinned out, Bai Feifei was left sitting on the ground alone, staring blankly at the dirt as tears continued to stream down her face. Until, a voice reached her.
"Do you… want revenge?"
