Chapter 56 – You’re the Only Main Character in My World
“Get up!!!”
Shi Yu’s voice was at least two levels louder than an alarm clock.
Lin Xi had gotten smarter. To stop Shi Yu from yanking off her blanket, she slept rolled up in it.
The duvet cover was pale red, so Lin Xi, wrapped up in her blanket, looked exactly like Red from Larva.
Lin Xi’s inability to get out of bed had reached the terminal stage. There was no saving her now.
Shi Yu started trying to peel the blanket off her. “Lin Xi! Don’t you know the early bird gets the worm?!”
Lin Xi mumbled groggily, “All I know is the early worm gets eaten by the bird…”
Shi Yu: “…”
She walked to the bedroom door and shouted in a rapid, urgent voice:
“The doorbell rang! Zhao Xinning’s here!”
“Xinning?!” Lin Xi shot out from under the covers and pulled on her clothes. “Ah, you tricked me!”
She glanced at the time. Zhao Xinning usually wouldn’t come over this early to walk to school with her.
Lin Xi wanted to lie back down, but she didn’t get the chance. Shi Yu had taken the blanket away.
Lin Xi had no choice but to get up.
“How come the second you hear Zhao Xinning’s name, you perk up like you got injected with adrenaline and revive on the spot?”
“Because if Xinning really was here, I’d have to hurry and open the door for her.”
“Look at how lazy you are. I didn’t expect you to care about her that much.”
“Duh. Xinning is my best friend.”
“Then what place am I in?”
“You’re not my friend.” Lin Xi glared at Shi Yu. “You’re my sworn enemy who steals my blanket!”
Shi Yu: “…”
“Don’t worry. I’ll be moving out soon.”
“Really?” Lin Xi instantly perked up.
“What, you can’t bear to see me go?”
“No, no, no. I can’t wait for you to leave today,” Lin Xi said. “I’d even help you move for free.”
Shi Yu didn’t say exactly when she would move. She only told Lin Xi she had already started looking for a place.
Lin Xi only hoped that day would come sooner.
Once she was dressed and washed up, she started making breakfast.
Snap.
Lin Xi snapped her fingers, and a tiny flame danced at her fingertips.
This was the result of her Ability Output Control training. When the gas stove’s electronic ignition broke, Lin Xi simply turned herself into a human lighter.
During this period, accidentally brushing up against Shi Yu while asleep had brought Lin Xi quite a few benefits.
All told, Lin Xi’s lifespan had already been extended to half a month.
In other words, within the next half month, even if she didn’t cuddle any of the girls on the Cuddle Witch’s Last Wish List, she wouldn’t immediately die.
The other benefit was that her Fireball Spell had upgraded into Intermediate Fireball Spell.
What Lin Xi was actually looking forward to more was obtaining the Cuddle Witch’s memories.
She wanted to know who exactly had killed the Cuddle Witch.
Lin Xi would occasionally have nightmares, dreaming that the culprit who had shot the Cuddle Witch to death came back again and killed her with a single shot too.
In the dream, the murderer was just like the “little black silhouette” in Conan. Lin Xi couldn’t see his face clearly.
An ability upgrade was nice too. Intermediate Fireball Spell was definitely stronger. After her experience last time of passing out from unleashing it at full power, Lin Xi absolutely would not make the same mistake again.
Because of that, she practiced Ability Output Control every day.
After breakfast, Shi Yu left first. A little while later, Lin Xi waited until Zhao Xinning arrived to walk to school with her.
Whenever she saw Zhao Xinning, Lin Xi’s mood always became bright and sunny.
Maybe this was Angel-sama’s “magic”…
“Xinning, good morning!”
“Good morning, Xi!” Zhao Xinning naturally took Lin Xi’s hand. Walking to school hand in hand had already become their routine.
“It’s finally Friday!” This week had felt like an eternity to Zhao Xinning. Every single day, she’d been counting down to the weekend so she could go out and have fun with Lin Xi. “Xi, you haven’t forgotten our promise, have you?”
“Hahaha, how could I?” Lin Xi couldn’t have forgotten even if she’d wanted to. Zhao Xinning had brought it up practically every day.
Zhao Xinning was looking forward to it, and Lin Xi was just as excited to go out with her friend.
Of course, the two of them were in very different states of mind, and their feelings were not quite the same…
“Xi, are you really not going to consider quitting Xia Xun’s fan club?” Zhao Xinning asked.
She was extremely unhappy about Lin Xi joining Xia Xun’s fan club.
Lin Xi had no plans to quit. First, she’d promised Senior Chu Wenmu. Second, her spy mission required it. And third… becoming Xia Xun’s fan was actually kind of nice.
In Lin Xi’s personal ranking of friends, Zhao Xinning was number one, and Xia Xun was number two.
Lu Yi and Xia Xun were tied for second.
Lin Xi could only answer vaguely, saying she couldn’t leave for the time being.
“Seriously,” Zhao Xinning said, filled with righteous indignation. “Is Chu Wenmu not letting you quit? Is she still bullying you? I’m going to find her today-“
“No,” Lin Xi hurriedly said. “Senior Chu Wenmu has been incredibly polite to me. Not just her-the entire Discipline Committee has been incredibly polite to me.”
Chu Wenmu had treated Lin Xi to lunch every day this week.
“Fine,” Zhao Xinning said. “If anyone dares bully you, tell me. Xi, you have to understand that I’m the most reliable one. You can depend on me without worry.”
“Mm. I understand.”
Angel-sama really was so wonderful it went without saying.
“Xi, there’s one more big thing I have to tell you.”
“What big thing?”
“I became the president of your fan club!”
Lin Xi: “???”
“My fan club? Since when do I have fans? And they even formed a club???”
Lin Xi could hardly believe it. “I’m just a mass-produced nobody, Background Character A, Villager A. How could I possibly have a fan club?”
“You do,” Zhao Xinning said. “The Discipline Committee was supposed to be correcting student conduct, but you corrected the Discipline Committee. You became famous after one battle and gained a huge number of fans.”
“Some students even started shouting things like ‘Zhongcheng1‘ and ‘Enqin2,’ and they took the lead in founding the Lin Xi Fan Club.”
“The moment I heard there was a fan club for you, I immediately applied to join.”
“After they found out about my relationship with you, the original president stepped down and made way for someone better. And just like that, I became the president of the Lin Xi Fan Club.”
The whole thing was so absurdly surreal that Lin Xi had no idea what to say for a moment.
Zhao Xinning, however, was still going strong.
“Our Lin Xi Fan Club has only one goal: to help you, Xi, ascend to this year’s title of Moe Queen!”
“If the Magical Girl can sit on the throne of Moe Queen, then why can’t you?!”
Lin Xi: “…”
Wait. How did the whole “being crowned against my will” plot end up happening to me???
“Xinning, you really don’t have to waste your effort.”
“How could someone like me possibly shake the status of the Magical Girl?”
Lin Xi felt that she couldn’t even compete with Qin Ling.
Besides, she was a fan of Xia Xun and Qin Ling. She was supposed to put all her effort into pushing them to become Moe Queen.
If she founded her own fan club and joined the competition, wouldn’t that be the same as a powerful minister usurping the throne and raising a banner in rebellion?
But Zhao Xinning said, “Xi, you mustn’t belittle yourself.”
“You’re also very pretty and cute, and you’re outstanding and considerate.”
“You are the one and only protagonist in my world!”
Footnote:
- Zhongcheng(忠诚): Meaning “Loyalty.” It is shouted as a pledge of absolute devotion to an idol.
- Enqin(恩亲): Meaning “Grace and Affection.” An exaggeratedly formal term used by fans to express deep gratitude toward their idol, often used in a humorous or parodic way to show “cult-like” fervor.
