Chapter 21 – Demon Worship Cult
Volume 3
"A dog, a person, and something that looks like a lizard. It's too small, so I can't quite make it out."
Magpie continued sending back information.
"Then get a little closer. Oh, and tell Simba to hurry over. Three Level 4s won't be easy to handle without Simba."
"Understood."
Magpie gave a brief reply. First, he controlled a little rat near Simba to pass along the message, then he steered the bird toward Wen Yu.
The distance closed, bit by bit.
Then he saw a bullet growing larger and larger in his vision.
"Bang."
The crisp report of a Gun rang out from Throb in Wen Yu's right hand.
Then the bird plummeted straight out of the air.
The bullet had blown its head apart.
"Eye has been shot down. The attacker is… Ah, aaaaaah!"
Magpie had only just begun to send the information when an unknown force suddenly surged into his mind.
That eerie power tore relentlessly at Magpie's nerves, like a sharp blade stabbing into his brain and twisting back and forth without end.
Soul Strike had taken effect.
Magpie's Soul Grafting was equivalent to splitting off a portion of his own soul and placing it inside the body of the grafted target.
But that portion of his soul was not isolated. It still maintained a deep connection to Magpie himself.
When Throb's bullet hit the bird, it destroyed the bird's body and, at the same time, directly annihilated the soul fragment Magpie had lodged inside it.
According to Magpie's plan, once a grafted target was killed, that portion of his soul would return to his main body within a short time. Unfortunately, Magpie never got to wait that long.
Throb could increase the power of Soul Strike, but the description of how much it increased it was vague.
As it turned out, that increase left Wen Yu extremely satisfied.
The force of Soul Strike wiped out the soul fragment inside the bird's body, yet far from exhausting itself, it followed the Soul Link between Magpie and the bird and poured directly into Magpie's mind.
Wave after wave of terrifying power crashed against the depths of Magpie's soul like a raging tide.
Every impact tore a violent scream from Magpie's throat.
Until, at last, Magpie's consciousness was completely destroyed by the power of Soul Strike.
…
When Magpie's screams stopped, he lay on the ground, utterly still.
The leading Black-Robed Man stepped forward, felt Magpie's pulse, then looked at Magpie's bloodshot eyes. After a long moment, he shook his head.
"He's dead. Some kind of Skill similar to a mental shock."
"Mm. Record it. Be careful of that Skill later."
There was not much regret in the Black-Robed Man's words.
"It doesn't matter. Magpie's mission is already complete. As for the battle to come, his ability wouldn't have been of much use."
Wan Ping's voice held little emotion either.
The Black-robed Man nodded. Then he knelt in front of Magpie, pressed his palms together, and began muttering a long string of words in an incomprehensible language.
After a while, the simple ritual ended.
The Black-robed Man straightened, took one last look at Magpie's corpse, then raised his voice and declared,
"Congratulations to Magpie! He has returned to the embrace of the Demon Lord! May he obtain eternal life in the Demon Realm!"
"Obtain eternal life!"
The remaining people immediately echoed him.
It was not hard to hear a fanatical emotion in their voices.
The Black-robed Man looked down at the four of them, including Wan Ping and Guan Tao. Seeing the fervor on their faces, he did not care whether that fervor was real or fake. He raised both hands and shouted with all his might,
"Long live the Demon Race! Long live the Demon Worship Cult!!!"
"Long live the Demon Race! Long live the Demon Worship Cult!!!"
The Black-robed Man nodded in satisfaction. Then he looked at the dead soldiers and Xiao Xue, who was being carried in Guan Tao's hand, before slowly saying,
"Let's go. The target is nearby. Kill him! Use his corpse to add another brick to the foundation of our great Demon Worship Cult!"
Looking at the fanatics around them, Wan Ping and Guan Tao exchanged a glance, complicated emotions flickering through their eyes.
Guan Tao and Wan Ping both knew exactly what these people were.
Others called them The Forgotten. In fact, not long ago, even they had called themselves The Forgotten.
Unfortunately, under the leadership of a mysterious figure, these members of The Forgotten-these man-eating monsters-had banded together. They had even obtained an alternative method of evolution.
Now, they called themselves Apostles.
To put it bluntly, they wanted to willingly become lapdogs of the Demon Race. Human traitors, in other words.
They draped themselves in the banner of faith while committing every evil imaginable.
This was the cult hiding in the gutter-the Demon Worship Cult!
…
When the group walked out of the cave, what they saw was Wen Yu standing not far from the entrance.
"Hello."
Wen Yu greeted them calmly, then looked over these sneaky bastards who kept their heads covered and their faces hidden.
"By the way, may I ask what business you have with me?"
His tone was plain, with a hint of warmth, as if he were speaking to old friends he had not seen in a long time.
But in Wen Yu's heart, he had already sentenced every one of them to death.
No-not only would he kill everyone in front of him, he would also thoroughly investigate whether they had anyone backing them. If they did, then pulling them up by the roots would be the best outcome.
The Black-robed Man looked at Wen Yu's calm face and slowly nodded.
"We have a prospective believer who bears a grudge against you. Therefore, we would like to borrow your head."
Wen Yu nodded. Then Wild Song in his left hand aimed straight at the Black-robed Man, and he pulled the trigger!
"I was just messing with you, and you're still standing here putting on that fancy-ass act. Go die already!"
"Boom!"
An explosive roar rang out, and smoke filled the air.
When the dust finally settled, what Wen Yu saw was a massive shield condensed from sand and earth.
That shield had blocked Wild Song's attack!
Wen Yu's Physical Attribute was 200 Point. In Combat State, his Physical Attribute was 400 Point!
Wild Song's attacks could deal damage equal to twice his current Physical Attribute, and with the shape of Wild Song's bullets added on top of that…
A single shot from Wild Song was equivalent to a full-force strike from a Class Holder with 800 Point in Physical Attribute swinging a war hammer!
At present, there were very, very few Class Holders who could withstand an attack of this level!
The Black-robed Man at the lead slowly made a hand gesture. The sand-and-stone shield before him gradually dispersed, revealing the figures behind it.
It could not be said that Wild Song's attack had no effect at all. At the very least, the violent wind stirred up by the explosion had whipped their robes noisily, and the hood of one of them had been blown off.
Seeing the somewhat familiar face before him, Wen Yu slowly lowered the Gun and stared seriously at the Class Holder in front of him. Then he spoke slowly.
"Guan Tao, right? Long time no see."
Guan Tao nodded.
"It has been a long time. I didn't expect you to still remember me."
Wen Yu nodded.
"I have a good memory. So the moment I saw you, I more or less understood what this was about."
"In other words, we've become enemies?"
"You can't really put it that way. Our objective is only that dog."
Wen Yu's answer was extremely straightforward.
"Fine. He's yours."
After Wen Yu finished speaking, he grabbed One-Eye and hurled him hard in Guan Tao's direction.
At the same time, Wen Yu's voice rang out again.
"I'm giving him to you, but it doesn't look like you can kill him!"
…
The instant he saw Guan Tao, Wen Yu had already finished communicating with One-Eye and Star!
It was very simple. The mission for one man and two pets was to kill every last one of these sneaky bastards hiding their faces.
Of course, the fact that Wild Song's direct frontal shot had just been blocked had already made Wen Yu realize that this group was not weak. Relying on One-Eye alone might be asking too much of him.
So in that instant, Wen Yu and One-Eye's coordination had already begun!
