Chapter 40 – Nirvana Plan
Volume 3
Star was fast. With Level 4 strength, he was hardly any slower than an airplane.
Unfortunately, he still had to take care of the passengers on his back-mainly Xiao Xue.
At that moment, Xiao Xue was already vomiting nonstop on Star's back. Of course, whenever that happened, Wen Yu would thoughtfully take out some water and tissues, then signal for Xiao Xue to wipe the vomit off Star's back.
Star landed several times along the way, mainly to look for food or to drive off a few Mutant Beasts that had flown up and tried to provoke him.
Of course, with Star's current strength, these "little guys" who could not even tell how powerful he was were basically just delivering themselves as extra dishes!
With no other objective in mind, Wen Yu and the others flew in a straight line toward Yanjing Settlement.
And so, after traveling with stops along the way, less than a day later, Yanjing Settlement was already visible in the distance!
…
"Thirty kilometers ahead is Yanjing Settlement. We'll stop here for now. I'll have the Military send someone to pick us up."
Hearing Xiao Xue's words, Wen Yu nodded at once.
If nothing else, with Star's size and level, once he got close to Yanjing Settlement, he might cause a commotion.
Xiao Xue took out a silver-white communication device from her Spatial Ring. It looked like an old brick phone, and she directly dialed an internal Military number.
After a brief exchange, Xiao Xue reported their location. Wen Yu patted Star on the back.
Star circled twice in the sky, then found an open space and descended directly.
Once the two of them were standing on solid ground again, Xiao Xue finally let out a breath of relief.
Flying at high altitude without any safety measures really was thrilling!
Wen Yu ignored Xiao Xue, who was standing off to the side constantly drinking water and rinsing her mouth. His gaze remained fixed on the Steel city in the distance.
When they had been in the air just now, Wen Yu had already caught a glimpse of Yanjing Settlement's appearance. Now, standing thirty kilometers away from Yanjing Settlement, he could still vaguely see enormous Steel pillars rising one after another inside the Settlement, their purpose unknown.
"It's spectacular, isn't it? In less than two months, such an enormous Settlement has already been built."
Xiao Xue slowly walked over to Wen Yu's side and spoke with a hint of pride in her expression.
It had to be said that with all kinds of abilities, as well as the unimaginable stamina of Class Holders, even the speed of construction had increased by quite a bit!
Wen Yu nodded.
There was no denying that. Just from a single glance at it from afar, Wen Yu could feel the sheer size and impact of that Steel city!
…
"Our Country is strong. Truly strong! Especially in terms of Military strength!"
"Before the Apocalypse, the international environment wasn't exactly friendly to our Country. Under that pressure, the Country's High Command had already prepared multiple response plans for any possible disaster or war."
Looking at Xiao Xue's proud manner, Wen Yu shrugged.
"Did they have one for this situation?"
"If you're talking about an invasion from the Demon Realm, then no."
Hearing Wen Yu's words, Xiao Xue curled her lips hard and muttered under her breath.
"Who could've known something like the Demon Realm existed? What, did you think there really were prophets or something in this world?"
"But for the Zombie crisis in the early stages of the Apocalypse, the Country did indeed have countermeasures!"
"They even had that?"
That sentence actually surprised Wen Yu a little!
Xiao Xue rolled her eyes at Wen Yu.
"Why wouldn't they? There are so many movies about Zombies destroying the world. The Military couldn't guarantee that some Country or organization wouldn't actually develop something like that!"
Wen Yu raised an eyebrow. Only then did he react.
Given the current level of technology, if someone really wanted to develop something like a Zombie virus, it might actually be possible for them to succeed.
Xiao Xue continued.
"Actually, in the early days of the Apocalypse, when the Zombie crisis first broke out, the Military had already prepared at least three sets of countermeasures."
"We didn't really understand the Exchange Pillar that appeared out of nowhere or the Class system, but that didn't stop the Military from having the ability to wipe out those walking dead."
Seeing the faint suspicion in Wen Yu's eyes, Xiao Xue spoke in an indifferent tone.
"In truth, when it came to something like a Zombie crisis, the Country had already drafted a large number of plans based on the percentage of people who turned into Zombie in the first wave. According to our estimates, if it was the sort of thing you see in movies-slow-moving, highly contagious-as long as fewer than eighty percent of humanity Mutated in the first wave, then it wouldn't count as the Apocalypse. It would only be a disaster."
"You have to understand. Something like that really couldn't destroy humanity."
…
"When the Apocalypse first began, statistics showed that fewer than twenty percent of humans were infected by Demon Qi and Mutated into Zombie in the first wave. Even adding in the infection rate from the first day, the number of humans who Mutated that day was still below fifty percent."
"The ratio within the Military was even lower. Large numbers of soldiers were eliminated the moment they had just Mutated into Zombie, so the scale of infection they caused wasn't high at all. That means the Military's losses weren't actually that severe."
"Against a Military with its combat strength intact, these Zombie couldn't last very long at all."
"Forget planes and tanks for a moment. Just take the Gun and ammunition stockpiles our Country already had. Even if you calculated it at a ratio of one hundred bullets to kill one Zombie, that would still be enough to kill more than ten billion Zombie."
"And that isn't even mentioning the missiles in the strategic reserve warehouses."
"Those things could sweep through all of Huaxia three times over, with absolutely no blind spots."
"So I really do wonder what those Zombie movies and novels were thinking…"
After listening to Xiao Xue, Wen Yu fell silent.
Only after a long while did he finally speak.
"There were that many weapons?"
Xiao Xue nodded.
"The weapons currently held by our Country alone would be enough to wipe out every living creature on Earth dozens of times over. Just like a saying from before the Apocalypse: the only thing capable of destroying humanity is humanity itself."
"Of course, mutual destruction is only a last resort. At the very least, we still have to ensure the continuation of the species."
"That is why the Military's contingency plans for disasters played an extremely important role."
"That over there…"
Xiao Xue pointed toward the distant Yanjing Settlement, then began to explain.
"Leaving aside the strategic reserve warehouses stored in various places, let's just talk about the Postwar Reconstruction Material Reserve Depot built by the Country for reconstruction after a nuclear war. You have no idea how many supplies are inside."
"I've been in there once. Just once. And the things inside weren't limited to weapons, food, drinking water, seeds, and so on. There were also all kinds of scientific equipment, as well as various records related to science, technology, and culture."
"With that warehouse, as long as ten men and ten women entered it, we could guarantee that our inheritance would not be cut off."
"The Yanjing Settlement you see now was built using the supplies from that warehouse."
"Before the Apocalypse, this plan was also called the Nirvana Plan."
After Xiao Xue finished, she immediately fell silent.
Wen Yu nodded.
"Is it really okay to tell me all this?"
"Why wouldn't it be? The entire Nirvana Plan has already failed anyway. In this Apocalypse, unless the Country placed the Nirvana Plan's location in another dimension, there would be no way to avoid all kinds of sensory abilities. What difference does telling you make? What does it matter? If you wanted, I could even take you there to have a look."
Wen Yu shook his head.
"Forget it."
