Chapter 76 – The Spark Never Dies
Zhu Hao looked coldly at Qin Zelong, a flash of impatience passing through his eyes. Why did he have to come help this piece of trash?
“Are you getting soft?” Zhu Hao glanced at the trembling door, then suddenly felt a malicious little urge and asked.
Qin Zelong’s lips moved. In the end, he could not help murmuring, “That’s more than a hundred lives…”
“Hypocrite! Don’t forget, you’re the one who tricked them into coming here! For the sake of your one daughter, you’ve already sacrificed plenty of people, haven’t you?” Zhu Hao grabbed Qin Zelong by the collar and roared, “Including those old employees who followed you for years, who worked like oxen and horses for you, who helped you build this company from a little warehouse into what it is today. Your old friends. Isn’t that right?”
Seeing Qin Zelong’s face go deathly pale as tears streamed down his cheeks and left him unable to speak, Zhu Hao felt a surge of pleasure. He let go, tossing the limp Qin Zelong back onto the floor, then straightened his collar and said, “In that case, what difference does sacrificing another hundred or so make? Whether you should have done it or not, you’ve already done it. If it were me, I’d walk this road to the end and never regret it. Go find something to block the door. I’ll deal with what’s inside. If anyone hears anything and comes asking, you know what to do.”
With that, Zhu Hao gave Qin Zelong another contemptuous look, then turned and left.
Qin Zelong sat there in a daze for a while before turning to look at the door.
“Help…”
“Is anyone there? Please, let us out!”
Qin Zelong struggled to his feet and took one last look at the lock. Then he clenched his teeth. “For my daughter, I can only wrong you all.”
As Qin Zelong began moving tables and chairs over to barricade the door, the terrifying atmosphere inside the conference room reached another peak.
The instant Su Lifeng charged forward, a mass of Black Thread on Qin Moyun’s body surged toward him.
Within ten meters of where she stood, it was as if a cloud of Black Mist darker than night itself had risen.
And Su Lifeng’s figure was like a single spark crashing into that Black Mist.
He moved so fast that the air whistled with a whoosh as he crossed the room.
The two collided in an instant.
Bang, bang, bang!
A rapid string of muffled impacts exploded through the air.
The sound of countless Black Thread striking the Bone Wings mingled with the sound of Su Lifeng swinging his scalpel.
A deathly pale Exoskeleton had surfaced over the hand holding the blade. The back of that hand was already drenched in blood, while in his other hand, he gripped the military spike he meant to use for the fatal strike against Qin Moyun.
Qin Moyun stood rooted to the spot. Through the countless swaying strands of Black Thread, her eyes fixed quietly on Su Lifeng, as if saying, You have no way of reaching me alive.
But Su Lifeng pushed through her dense assault and advanced toward her without dodging at all.
Shhk!
He heard his clothes being sliced open. He felt the pain of his skin being pierced, and the constant tearing sensation coming from his Bone Wings.
But none of that pain could stop his steps. Right now, in his eyes, there was only Qin Moyun.
The feeling he had experienced earlier when killing Cheng Feiwen in the warehouse awakened again.
The sensation of having only one target in his eyes made Su Lifeng feel as if the blood in his body were boiling, even making his scalp tingle.
Stab the enemy. Destroy the enemy!
In the midst of their despairing cries, many people saw this scene. They saw a single spark crash into the terrifying Black Mist.
For a moment, they all thought Su Lifeng would die in the next instant. That figure whose face they could not make out, whose movements were so fast they could barely see his body, was like a moth throwing itself into the flame at the most brilliant moment of its life.
No one placed any hope in him, just as they were sinking deeper and deeper into despair over their own situation… but that spark did not go out. He was still going deeper! Still charging forward!
Only then did someone suddenly remember what he had just said: “I came to kill!”
“So he wasn’t bluffing…” Fang Li murmured.
Like more and more people around her, her gaze was completely drawn to that single spark.
None of them had ever imagined they would witness a battle between monsters from such close range. Right before their eyes. Right beside them.
Bang, bang, bang!
Su Lifeng’s Bone Wings endured over a hundred more attacks. Then, as his Bone Wings suddenly spread wide to either side, two streaks of red light flashed through the darkness, and an inconspicuous gray point silently stabbed out from between them.
As a spot of red spread across her chest, the look Qin Moyun gave Su Lifeng changed at once from indifference.
It became faintly terrified.
The next instant, a mass of Black Thread abruptly retracted, dragging Qin Moyun away.
Bang!
Qin Moyun slammed heavily into the wall, but she had avoided the fatal blow.
She looked down at her chest in surprise. The wound was not especially deep, yet blood was continuously pouring out, and its healing had clearly slowed by a great deal.
Then a strand of Black Thread rose up, burrowed into the wound, and blocked the gushing blood.
“You hurt me,” Qin Moyun said, spreading her arms.
As the sound of tearing cloth came from her sleeves, Su Lifeng was horrified to discover that a thin membrane had appeared between her arms and her body. At the same time, her ears began to deform and lengthen.
The instant she closed her eyes, Su Lifeng felt a surge of danger.
He could not let her continue!
But just then, the thick glass window nearby suddenly gave a sharp crack.
“Ah!”
Terrified screams erupted from the crowd again. Amid the spray of shattered glass, around ten figures appeared inside the conference room.
One of them stood up, retracted the Black Thread that had suspended it from downstairs, then charged at Su Lifeng, who was lunging toward Qin Moyun.
“Get lost!” Su Lifeng swept out with his Bone Wings and, with a backhand strike, drove his military spike straight into the creature’s mouth.
The moment another figure came close, his other hand lashed out. A fountain of blood instantly burst from the figure’s neck.
Amid the splattering blood, Su Lifeng killed two Xenospecies in succession.
As more Xenospecies pounced on him, Su Lifeng abruptly turned, severed one Xenospecies’s Black Thread with a slash, then followed with his military spike, plunging it into another’s body.
The moment the two Xenospecies fell, he kept charging toward Qin Moyun.
“Oh my god… it’s almost like he’s dancing…” Fang Li knew she should not be having such an absurd thought at a time like this. In truth, she was scared out of her mind, but the sight of Su Lifeng fighting amid that group of Xenospecies left her dizzy and entranced.
His way of fighting was direct. It could even be called precise. As his figure moved, the monsters around him kept collapsing in sprays of blood. It was not that he was uninjured. His body was almost completely dyed red with blood by now. Yet his eyes, occasionally made clear beneath the night, remained calm from beginning to end.
Perhaps because he gave off such an unstoppable impression, Fang Li even overlooked all the strange abilities the Xenospecies possessed… Black Thread, mutated limbs. None of it could stop Su Lifeng.
“He really did come to kill…”
Su Lifeng soon charged back in front of Qin Moyun. The instant he raised his military spike, Qin Moyun suddenly opened her eyes.
“Die!” Su Lifeng spat at her.
