Chapter 77 – Blood on the Arrow
“Sending more than a dozen Xenospecies down there should be enough, right?” Zhu Hao stood by the upstairs window, almost entranced as he reached out and touched the slime still clinging to the sill. He wasn’t afraid of that Black Thread. On the contrary, he longed to possess it…
But the noise downstairs gave him a faint, ominous feeling. Shouldn’t the next thing he heard be screams rising one after another?
He had even gotten the speakers ready…
Just imagine it: to the beat of cheerful dance music, more than a hundred people collapsing one by one in despair. How satisfying would that be?
He would witness it all. With only a single floor between them, he and those people would be standing in a different world.
The thought made it impossible for Zhu Hao to maintain his humble facade. He stared at the glass in front of him, where his own crazed expression was reflected back at him…
But their cries were a little too brief. It was more like they were holding their breath, waiting for something…
What Fang Li and the others were waiting for was the clash between Su Lifeng and Qin Moyun.
Su Lifeng’s stab missed the instant Qin Moyun opened her eyes.
But judging by the scrap of fabric Su Lifeng had pinned to the wall, it wasn’t that he had been slow. She had simply been faster.
In the darkness, Qin Moyun’s figure vanished. Su Lifeng froze in place for one second, then his Bone Wings snapped up to shield his head.
Bang!
A heavy, violent thud rang out, making everyone present feel as though their hearts had clenched along with it.
Qin Moyun’s figure flashed past above him, and a mass of Black Thread came crashing down onto Su Lifeng’s head with the force of her sudden appearance.
At the same time, an ordinary Xenospecies rushed up from behind. Its mutated arms, like the forelimbs of an insect, stabbed toward Su Lifeng.
“Ah!” Fang Li felt her breath stop for an instant.
Su Lifeng let out a muffled grunt as a burst of intense pain tore through his body. The next moment, his Bone Wings shifted, revealing the military spike that had pierced the Xenospecies’ arm. His quick reaction and decisiveness had saved him. At the critical moment, he had used the spike to stop it from going any farther.
As for the attack from above, although his Bone Wings had protected him, it still left his vision swimming and his skull buzzing.
The Xenospecies’ sharp nails had already sunk into his body. Su Lifeng gritted his teeth and wrenched himself forward, tearing free of its claws as he spun around. The scalpel in his other hand plunged hard into the center of its chest cavity, then sliced downward with a wet rip. Blood, flesh, and organs sprayed out, and with them, the Xenospecies’ Black Thread surged into Su Lifeng’s body.
Fang Li stopped breathing completely. In her eyes, Su Lifeng looked like a true beast in that moment.
“Again,” Su Lifeng said hoarsely. He looked toward Qin Moyun. By then, she had flashed into another corner and was staring at him through the Black Thread.
She hadn’t expected that even with her and one of her kind attacking together, they still wouldn’t be able to kill Su Lifeng. Instead, he had killed the last ordinary Xenospecies.
Now, inside the conference room, only he and Qin Moyun remained.
Qin Moyun’s attacks were powerful, and her teleporting speed was extremely fast, but after being blocked just now, she had clearly slowed down.
And although Su Lifeng had been badly injured, after absorbing more than a dozen Xenospecies, the wounds on his body had already begun to heal.
The longer he fought, the stronger he became!
When Qin Moyun heard Su Lifeng say, “Again,” a flicker of hesitation suddenly appeared in her eyes.
All at once, Qin Moyun’s figure blurred. Screams erupted from the crowd, and as several people fell to the floor, the door gave a sudden, heavy bang. A huge hole had been punched straight through it.
Downstairs, Qin Zelong was anxiously watching his surroundings. The moment he heard that noise, his heart jolted.
He turned his head back, and an indescribable nervousness rose inside him.
“Xiaoyun…”
When Qin Moyun rushed out, she was still carrying a human figure in her hand.
But the flesh and blood she had absorbed clearly weren’t enough to restore her stamina…
Fang Li collapsed to the side. She had just lifted her head when a point of red light shot past in front of her.
In the instant they passed each other, she felt as if the other party had glanced at her.
Was it her imagination? Why did that look feel somehow familiar…?
“No. Those things are monsters. How could they feel familiar?” Fang Li thought.
The two monsters left the conference room one after the other. After a wave of screams, the people inside suddenly realized there was hope.
Fang Li scrambled to her feet with the crowd, but she did not immediately rush out with them.
A certain person suddenly came to mind… the young man who had urged her to go back, as if he had known in advance what was going to happen. Where was he?
Looking at the corpses strewn across the floor, Fang Li suddenly felt a little panicked.
“Why are you running?” The instant Su Lifeng chased after her, he closed in on Qin Moyun and drove his military spike forward.
Qin Moyun threw away the corpse in her hands. Her figure flickered, and in the next moment, she appeared several meters away.
“I know who you are now,” Qin Moyun suddenly said.
Su Lifeng felt that her tone was somewhat similar to Ren Xiaoying’s right now, but more than anything, it still carried that dry, lifeless quality unique to the Xenospecies.
“You haven’t reached E-class,” Su Lifeng said.
Not E-class yet, but probably very close.
In terms of combat, however, she was still inferior to him as one of the Mutants. And her condition seemed off as well. Although she was not panting heavily, her movements had clearly slowed down a great deal.
Su Lifeng was somewhat glad that he had already killed quite a few Xenospecies. His combat ability was improving rapidly through actual practice.
At the same time, he realized that he was also at the end of his rope.
After discovering that Ren Xiaoying had not come, he had decisively launched an attack, but he had not expected his opponents to be so difficult to deal with, nor so numerous.
Ren Xiaoying could appear at any moment. Su Lifeng had no desire to run into that Wisdom Species under these circumstances.
“Since you haven’t reached E-class yet, then die.”
Su Lifeng charged forward. The last of his potential erupted all at once, sending him shooting out like an arrow loosed from the string.
An arrow drenched in blood, all the more savage for it!
Qin Moyun’s pupils shrank. This time, even she truly was not sure whether she could dodge completely.
She… or rather, it, had expended too much stamina. On top of that, after a Xenospecies entered a human body, it needed constant replenishment just to maintain that body…
“No!”
A heart-rending roar came from behind Qin Moyun.
Pfft!
Su Lifeng looked up and saw that his military spike had pierced through a human figure.
He remembered this man. It was the person downstairs who had been waiting for the employees to check in.
But now he was standing in front of Qin Moyun. Although Qin Moyun’s shoulder had still been grazed by the military spike, she had avoided the fatal blow.
“Don’t kill Xiaoyun. If you want to kill someone, kill me. Don’t touch my daughter…” Qin Zelong could feel his life draining away at tremendous speed, yet he still glared furiously at Su Lifeng and roared.
Su Lifeng withdrew the military spike, his gaze complicated as he stared at him. This man was clearly an ordinary person. Looking at Qin Moyun, who no longer seemed remotely human, he should have known very well that she could no longer possibly be his daughter…
“Don’t kill her. I’m begging you, don’t… Xiaoyun, Xiaoyun will change back. She’s just a little mischievous. It’s my fault for not spending enough time with her…” Qin Zelong tried with all his might to look at Qin Moyun one more time, but just as he was about to turn his head, he stopped.
No. Qin Moyun like this… better not to look. It was enough to remember her as she used to be: arrogant, disobedient, always shouting at him at the top of her lungs…
“My daughter.” Qin Zelong’s eyes were still open, but his body had already collapsed weakly to the ground.
Su Lifeng looked up and found that Qin Moyun had already disappeared.
That brief obstruction had been enough for her to escape.
Perhaps in Qin Moyun’s eyes at that moment, she simply could not truly understand why Qin Zelong had done such a thing.
“You caused a lot of people to die. Go down there and atone to them.” Su Lifeng glanced at Qin Zelong and sighed inwardly.
Before the large number of survivors could rush out, Su Lifeng quickly charged downstairs as well.
But just as he was about to head down, Su Lifeng suddenly raised his head and looked upward through the gap in the stairwell.
“Hah!”
Zhu Hao jerked his head back and pressed himself against the wall.
“That guy… why did he look kind of familiar? No way. Did I see wrong?”
