Chapter 112 – Too Bad It Didn’t Help
By now, Liang Junyu had returned to his car. Not far from it, another vehicle had appeared: a red sports car.
Liang Junyu, or rather, everyone at Jiangnan Biomedical Group, was familiar with that car. It belonged to Jiang Qianqian’s mother, Vice President Li Liyan.
The person questioning him was Li Liyan. Her face, usually made up with meticulous care, now looked sallow and slack, and her eyes, brimming with hatred, were shot through with blood.
“Didn’t I get the phone? And I’m injured, too.” Liang Junyu pointed at the corner of his forehead, still dark with bruised blood, and spoke in a bad temper. The moment he thought of Qiu Yuming, anger surged in him all over again. He had assumed kidnapping an ordinary female college student would be effortless, but reality had proven that even something like this required experience, especially for a white-collar worker like him, who had spent years maintaining a refined, gentlemanly image.
Relying on the physical difference between men and women, he had managed to catch up to Qiu Yuming. But he had never expected that, seeing there was no hope of escape, Qiu Yuming would actually have the nerve to fake a fall. The instant he rushed up to grab her, she suddenly swung her hand back and smashed a rock she had picked up during the fall into his head.
If she had not been a girl with truly limited strength, he might really have been knocked unconscious, or even killed on the spot. But the spray of blood seemed to frighten Qiu Yuming as well. After scrambling back to her feet, she immediately fled into the farmland, while he managed to snatch her phone during the struggle.
The plan had completely failed to keep up with the changes…
“Besides, Su Lifeng has already taken the bait. What difference does it make whether we have a hostage or not?” Liang Junyu pressed his forehead for a while, then touched the back of his head with a grimace before asking in return, “Vice President Li, weren’t you the one who said there would be another helper?”
Li Liyan glanced at Liang Junyu, the corner of her mouth curling into a cold smile. “Isn’t the helper sitting in my car?”
Suspicious, Liang Junyu looked past her into the car. In fact, when Li Liyan had first arrived, he had already noticed the figure sitting inside. But how could that thin, slightly built man with his head lowered possibly be a helper?
“Vice President Li, I understand what happened to Qianqian, but surely you wouldn’t because of that…” Liang Junyu had just withdrawn his gaze and said this to Li Liyan when a voice suddenly sounded behind him.
“Because of what? Gone mad, or been fooled by me?”
It was a very youthful voice, yet it sent a chill shooting up from the soles of Liang Junyu’s feet. If he had not just seen a ghost in broad daylight, then it could only mean that the other party was definitely not human. At the very least, he could not be an ordinary, normal person.
Although Liang Junyu’s emotions had already fallen into a state of utter indulgence after he became certain the world was about to undergo a massive change, at this moment, he still felt the worldview he had held for so many years being challenged.
Before he could turn his head, that voice sounded again from behind Li Liyan. Then the thin man walked out. “Why did you stop? If you’ve got nothing else to say, hurry up and get ready. Su Lifeng may arrive faster than you imagine.”
Liang Junyu’s scalp went numb. Although he had expected as much, seeing it with his own eyes still made an uncontrollable trace of regret rise in his heart. But things had already come this far. There was no turning back now!
“That Liang Junyu really is useless!” After Liang Junyu walked off to one side, Li Liyan cursed under her breath.
“You can’t really put it that way. I only told him to lure Su Lifeng out, but wasn’t his performance rather creative? Besides, if someone like him were capable of doing anything major, how could you have swayed him with just a few words and a single text message?” A faint, eerie light flickered in the thin man’s eyes. For some reason, Li Liyan felt he looked very much like a cat, and the way he looked at her was very much like he was looking at a mouse.
“Han Meng, if you hadn’t helped me investigate, I might never have known who to send down with my Qianqian! Anyone who dares hurt someone under my protection, Li Liyan, will regret ever being born into this world!” As Li Liyan spoke, she could not help grinding her teeth.
Han Meng glanced at her, a very strange smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. “Don’t be sad. Qianqian has always been by your side. And… actually, you shouldn’t be thanking me. Someone else was responsible for the ‘investigation’…” His voice grew lower and lower.
“What?”
“Ah, nothing.” Han Meng smiled and shook his head.
“Thank you, Han Meng. If Qianqian were still alive, I would definitely persuade her to accept you. You have power now, but you’re still so devoted to her…” Li Liyan said.
“It’s fine. She’s always been with me, too. Besides, if it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t be where I am today.” Han Meng’s smile grew even more chilling.
Li Liyan was faintly afraid of Han Meng as well, but the moment she thought of Su Lifeng, she clenched her fists.
Before Su Lifeng, she had already had Han Meng help her kill several people.
That included everyone Jiang Qianqian had been in contact with before she disappeared… the owner of the pet shop she had visited, and that female friend of hers.
Every single one of them deserved to be buried with Jiang Qianqian!
But the one she hated most was still Su Lifeng!
He had warned Jiang Qianqian. He must have been the one who did it!
“It really is just like that Wisdom Species said. People blinded by hatred and rage have no reason to speak of.” Han Meng whistled. Of all the human behaviors he had learned recently, this was one of his favorites. To learn it better, he had even absorbed the person who taught him how to whistle, making them part of his body.
Unfortunately, it had not helped much.
Once Su Lifeng was lured out, he would not mind turning Li Liyan into another mass of flesh inside him, either.
“But that Wisdom Species… why is it so fixated on Su Lifeng?” Han Meng was a little curious about that. If it had not been unable to split itself apart, that Wisdom Species might have handled the matter personally long ago.
Still, he had never expected that Wisdom Species to seek him out. That night, outside that residential complex, he had just dragged a corpse over to repair his “female silhouette.” When he turned around, he saw the Wisdom Species standing behind him.
“Who cares? Being able to absorb and evolve is good enough, isn’t it? Observing these humans is interesting, too,” Han Meng thought happily.
Meanwhile, in the city, Ye Nannan suddenly dressed herself neatly and went to find Ye Long. “Dad.” A very sweet smile appeared on her face. “Haven’t you always wanted to have an appointment with Lifeng-Ge?”
“Why bring that up all of a sudden?” Ye Long’s eyes flickered as he asked.
“No reason. I know you’ve been thinking about it for a long time, so let’s go now. It’s perfect timing. That woman isn’t wandering around nearby today. And he’ll definitely show up. To get Lifeng-Ge to come see us, I thought of all sorts of ways and spent a lot of effort,” Ye Nannan said.
