Chapter 139 – How Is She Not Dead?!
Zhao Xinning arrived at the band practice room used by Lin Xi and the others.
She was a little late today.
She’d had far too much on her plate.
Not only did she have to rehearse a play with her classmates, but she also had to make an appearance at the Track and Field Club.
Only after taking care of everything could she put all those bothersome obligations behind her and happily come see Lin Xi.
The moment she saw Lin Xi, Zhao Xinning felt all her exhaustion melt away.
Seeing Zhao Xinning gave Lin Xi the same sense of being recharged.
Perhaps this was Angel-sama’s divine power… The same thought occurred to both of them.
They were each other’s angels… What did that make them, conjugate angels???
“Xinning.” Lin Xi waved her over. “Come have some tea with us.”
Zhao Xinning walked over with a smile. “Good thing Ms. Huang is in charge of your event. Otherwise, there’s no way you’d be lounging around and drinking tea like this.”
Zhao Xinning sat beside Lin Xi and began pouring out her grievances to her Angel-sama. Rehearsing for the school anniversary with her class was exhausting, and their teacher was incredibly strict.
She then asked Lin Xi to pat her head and comfort her.
Lin Xi agreed without hesitation.
Watching their intimate interaction, Su Xiangxue had only one thought:
Would you two hurry up and go register your marriage already?!
Unfortunately, one of these two was desperately suppressing her feelings, while the other was loved without even realizing it. Su Xiangxue had never seen such a bizarre combination before.
But she was merely an ordinary spectator here for the drama. What could she possibly do?
Huang Haiyao, who was watching the drama as well, was stunned.
It wasn’t just Xia Xun that Lin Xi had an ambiguous relationship with. She was like this with Zhao Xinning too?
Could it be… she planned to date both of them at once???
Huang Haiyao was suddenly overwhelmed by sorrow. She had never even been in a relationship, yet her student was already two-timing girls…
The only person present without any complicated thoughts was the innocent Queen of Lust, Yang Shanshan.
She leisurely sipped her black tea and nibbled on delicious cookies, privately marveling at how wonderful relationships between girls were…
After their “black tea time” ended, they continued rehearsing for a while.
Once practice was over, Lin Xi finally got to walk home hand in hand with Zhao Xinning again after what felt like ages.
“It really has been a long time since we went home together.” Zhao Xinning intertwined the fingers of her right hand with those of Lin Xi’s left.
Lin Xi had long since grown accustomed to holding hands, so she didn’t feel embarrassed in the slightest. “Yeah. It does feel like it’s been a long time since I went home with you, Xinning.”
Lin Xi had already told Thor to remove every trace of her presence from the apartment.
If Xinning happened to want to stop by, Lin Xi couldn’t let her discover that a Dragon Maid was living there too.
Lin Xi had also told Xia Xun to stop coming over every day to invite her to spend the night.
She had promised she would stay over, but she couldn’t do it every single day.
Xia Xun said she understood. Even the person one loved needed some space of her own.
Lin Xi could only let her interpret it however she wanted…
“Xi, why don’t we look around a little before going home?” Zhao Xinning suggested. “We can grab some snacks while we walk.”
Lin Xi agreed.
Zhao Xinning generously declared that since it was her idea, the food would be her treat.
But how could Lin Xi possibly let Angel-sama pay? She insisted on treating her instead.
It was true that Lin Xi still hadn’t found a suitable part-time job, but Yang Shanshan, Xia Xun, and Thor were all willing to hand over their entire savings to her.
So Lin Xi… would obviously never ask them for money!!!
No matter how shameless she was, she would never stoop that low.
She’d gotten the money from Shi Yu instead.
Shi Yu had said that she was willing to compensate Lin Xi to make up for bullying her in the past.
Free money was free money, so Lin Xi had happily accepted it.
So far, Shi Yu had apologized and paid compensation. If she hadn’t also confessed and proposed becoming some sort of backup girlfriend, Lin Xi genuinely would have been willing to forgive her and try being friends.
But that whole backup-girlfriend proposal had been far too bizarre. Lin Xi had no choice but to remain on guard in case Shi Yu pulled something completely outrageous…
“Xi, I want some cotton candy from that stall over there!”
“All right, it’s settled.”
“Hehe… You’re so good to me.”
“What’s the big deal? It’s just cotton candy.”
“This isn’t just any cotton candy.”
“Huh? Does it taste special? I couldn’t tell.”
“I’m not talking about the taste! It’s special because you bought it for me!”
Zhao Xinning treasured anything Lin Xi bought for her, just as Lin Xi treasured every gift Angel-sama gave her.
“Can I have a bite of your cotton candy?” Zhao Xinning asked.
“Aren’t they the same?” Lin Xi said.
“They’re not. I’ll have some of yours, and you can try some of mine.”
Any request from Angel-sama had to be granted, so Lin Xi took a bite of the cotton candy in Zhao Xinning’s hand.
There wasn’t any difference, was there???
Oh well, whatever. As long as Xinning was happy, anything was fine…
Zhao Xinning led her around as they wandered aimlessly through the shops.
They really did just eat as they strolled.
Before long, they wandered into a shopping mall, then into the clothing section, and finally into a lingerie store…
Lin Xi: “…”
Xinning actually brought me along to buy underwear???!!!
Has our friendship really reached that point???!!!
“Xi,” Zhao Xinning called, poking her head out of the fitting room with a blush. “Can you come in and help me see if it fits?”
Angel-sama’s “critical hit” left Lin Xi’s head spinning. She really trusts me that much!
Determined not to betray the trust her best friend had placed in her, Lin Xi resolutely strode toward the fitting room ahead.
Suddenly-
A familiar yet somehow unfamiliar voice called out to her from behind.
“Miss Lin Xi…?”
Lin Xi turned around.
She froze in shock.
“Miss Shi Yu…?!!!”
In contrast to Lin Xi’s astonishment, Shi Yu was perfectly calm.
“I’ve ‘recovered and been discharged.’ I was planning to return to school tomorrow and surprise everyone. I didn’t expect to run into you here first.”
Lin Xi: “…”
Shi Yu had “recovered and been discharged.” Didn’t that mean… Sister Lin had already arrived in Z City? She had repaired Shi Yu that quickly???
Why hadn’t she told me anything???
Was it all just to surprise me???
Well, this certainly is a surprise.
Momentarily at a loss for words, Lin Xi said somewhat awkwardly, “Congratulations on being discharged, Miss… Shi Yu.”
“Nice to meet you,” Shi Yu said as she gently embraced her.
Lin Xi mechanically replied, “Mee too.”
With Zhao Xinning there, Lin Xi couldn’t ask too many questions.
“Xinning?” Lin Xi turned to Zhao Xinning, only to discover that her previously flushed cheeks had turned deathly pale.
She looked terrified. Incredulous???
“Xinning? What’s wrong? Are you feeling sick?” Lin Xi walked over in concern.
Shi Yu also noticed Zhao Xinning. “So Miss Lin Xi came with Miss Xinning to buy clothes. Now that I’ve ‘recovered,’ I’m here to buy some clothes too.”
Zhao Xinning slammed the fitting room door shut and leaned back against it. In a slightly trembling voice, she told Lin Xi that she was fine.
How could she possibly be fine…
“A ghost?! I’m really seeing a ghost!” Pluto’s voice rang out in Zhao Xinning’s mind. “How is she not dead???!!!”
“One shot blew her in half, and they still managed to heal her???!!!”
(It’s the end of the month. I’m not trying to fish for sympathy; I’m being honest. Maybe the early chapters were too poorly written, or maybe the entire book is just bad. Either way, the platform has completely stopped giving it traffic, so it’s been eliminated. I guess it’s time to start the countdown to the finale… Haki Xi’s “quantum entanglement” with the girls will soon come to an end… Sure enough, this kind of frustrating novel doesn’t have much of an audience… No, it’s me, Haki. My writing is just too awful… If you suck, practice more. Words I wholeheartedly agree with.)
