Chapter 102 – The Power of Technology!
Volume 3: Rising Winds and Clouds
In that short span of time, the Bipedal Lizard swarm had already entered the Military's second defensive line.
The "line" was actually a suicide bombing unit formed from the Armored Clone Corps.
These bombs, however, were somewhat different from bombs in the conventional sense.
Wei Tian watched the clones advance toward the Bipedal Lizards with an inscrutable smile. He took out a controller and tapped it twice.
At last, Fang Wenhai and the others witnessed the power of the Academy of Sciences.
…
The moment Wei Tian finished entering his commands, every clone Warrior's exoskeleton armor flashed red.
The approaching Bipedal Lizards had no idea what the light meant. Driven by instinct, they lashed out with their tongues and swallowed the clone Warriors whole.
Then came a muffled pop.
It sounded nothing like a bomb. It was closer to the sound of a bottle shattering.
The Bipedal Lizards that had eaten clones began to convulse. Great streams of black liquid poured from their mouths.
Each creature that had mistakenly swallowed a bomb went limp and collapsed. Within moments, every trace of life had vanished.
At the same time, the exoskeleton armor on the remaining clone Warriors shattered. The explosive force sprayed black liquid in every direction, splashing it across the surrounding Bipedal Lizards.
Wherever the liquid landed, it instantly corroded a gaping hole through slick flesh. Then it seeped inside and entered the creatures' circulation.
Like poison, it brought every Bipedal Lizard it touched to the ground. Within moments, they were dead.
Fang Wenhai and the others atop the wall swallowed at the sight. Wei Tian's voice sounded beside them.
"How should I put it? The Academy of Sciences hasn't studied these Bipedal Lizards exhaustively, but we understand them well enough. Developing a poison tailored to this species wasn't particularly difficult."
His gaze remained fixed below.
"And the real show hasn't even started."
Wei Tian stared intently at the Bipedal Lizards as if he were studying some priceless treasure.
…
Bipedal Lizards shared one particular trait.
They ate the bodies of their dead kin.
The ones "poisoned" to death were naturally devoured as well.
Those that ate the poisoned bodies then displayed the same symptoms, died, and were eaten in turn.
"If they have a habit like that, shouldn't we take full advantage of it?" Wei Tian said, overflowing with confidence in his expertise and in science itself. "Unfortunately, the toxin is extremely difficult to manufacture. We can't produce it on a large scale. Otherwise, these Bipedal Lizards would hardly be a threat."
His next sentence immediately exposed what he truly thought.
"They have a leader, so a toxin transmitted through feeding won't accomplish much. The rest is up to you."
With that, Wei Tian turned, descended from the wall, and headed toward the distant Treasure Land entrance.
He clearly was not part of the Military's combat forces. Faced with the coming battle, he "withdrew" ahead of everyone else.
Fang Wenhai and the others had no objection. Besides, Wei Tian's prediction soon became reality.
…
A mental pulse spread from the distance.
The Bipedal Lizards mindlessly devouring the "poison" immediately froze upon receiving the Demon Seed's command.
Those that had already eaten were doomed. The rest, however, discarded the contaminated corpses without hesitation and resumed their charge toward the Outpost.
Under the Demon Seed's leadership, these unintelligent creatures effectively possessed an additional brain. They would not fall for such a crude trap again.
Fang Wenhai drew his longbow and spoke gravely.
"Now it's our turn."
This was the Military's third defensive line-a fortress of Steel formed from defensive installations, heavy weapons, and, most importantly, countless Military Warriors.
The Outpost itself.
…
The moment the first Bipedal Lizard, more than fifty meters long, crawled into range of the artillery, machine guns, and small number of Class Holders atop the wall, the first large-scale war between humanity and the Demonic Creatures erupted in full.
The Modified Version heavy machine guns mounted along the wall fired first.
They roared without pause. Spent casings clattered across the ground as bullets carrying tremendous kinetic force tore toward the charging Level 5 Bipedal Lizards.
Unfortunately, if the Military's mass-produced modern weapons could inflict fatal damage on Level 5 Demonic Creatures, Lin Haifeng would have had no reason to be so wary of the Demon Race.
The bullets struck the Bipedal Lizards' bodies, only to ricochet from their slick hides without effect.
Only concentrated fire from large numbers of weapons slowed them even slightly.
"The heavy machine guns are ineffective…"
Fang Wenhai sighed despite having expected the result.
At this distance, humanity's modern weapons could no longer play much of a role.
"Then…"
He steadied himself and raised his voice.
"All Class Holders, prepare!"
At Fang Wenhai's command, Shen Yi quickly signaled to the Mana Mage Special Operations Unit behind him. Every member closed their eyes.
A strange energy field spread across the wall.
Class: Mana Mage.
Skill One: Mana Domain (E-Rank, Passive Ability): A Mana Mage is surrounded by a mysterious energy domain. When the Mana Mage casts a Skill, this domain reduces stamina consumption by one percent and reduces Skill cooldown, if applicable, by one percent. Multiple Mana Domains may stack, but their effects apply only to the Mana Mage Class.
One Mana Domain was unremarkable-almost insignificant. That was precisely why the ability had been rated E-Rank.
But the fact that its effects could stack gave the ability enormous potential.
For a single Mana Mage, one Mana Domain reduced stamina consumption and cooldown time by one percent.
But what if there were a hundred Mana Mages?
