Chapter 137 – The Battle Begins

Volume 3: Rising Winds and Clouds

"Stop wasting your strength. Here's some advice: enjoy the time you have left instead of spending all your energy trying to escape. Writing your last words might be a good choice."

The Ancient Demon Seed smiled broadly at Kuangliu.

Kuangliu frowned hard at the mocking expression on the Demonic Creature's face. He watched its every movement while forcing himself to remain calm and wait for help from outside.

He was certain the events here could not remain hidden. Once Wen Yu received the news, he would come as quickly as possible.

As Kuangliu and the Ancient Demon Seed "confronted" one another-or rather, as the Ancient Demon Seed toyed with him unilaterally-the entire Barrier suddenly shook violently.

Sensing its defenses weaken sharply, the Ancient Demon Seed's eye twitched.

"Sequence 2…"

The words emerged in a savage tone. Seeing Kuangliu relax slightly, the Ancient Demon Seed slowly stood. Killing intent surged wildly through its eyes.

"Since he's here, I'm done playing with you."

Before the words had fully left its mouth, the Ancient Demon Seed crushed another Isolation Barrier. Silver Light flashed across its body.

In the next instant, it vanished.

…

When Wen Yu reached the outside of the Barrier, he studied the murky gray surface and tried to sense what was happening within.

He discovered nothing.

After thinking briefly, Wen Yu made his decision.

Just as no Skill was truly Invincible, no defense was absolutely unbreakable. Every defensive Skill or item had an upper limit to the amount of energy it could withstand.

Once that limit was exceeded, even something Invincible could be broken.

Wen Yu rapidly entered his Combat State and recalled One-Eye into the Soul Realm Space.

Second Soul Realm Empowerment: High-Frequency Blade (A-Rank, Active Ability).

Third Soul Realm Empowerment: Dragon Flame (S-Rank, Active Ability).

Then he summoned Faceless and activated Perfect Replication.

Wen Yu had only just conceived this combination. High-Frequency Blade would enhance the damage of the War Blade, while Dragon Flame would add Fire Attribute damage.

For himself, Wen Yu once again selected Flesh Tome and Dragon Blood Amplification.

The two Abilities complemented each other. Without Flesh Tome, Dragon Blood Amplification inflicted too much harm upon Wen Yu. Without Dragon Blood Amplification, Wen Yu could not activate Dark World, much less the more powerful Dark Demon Monarch form.

Black mist spread rapidly from his body. In the blink of an eye, a ten-meter-tall black phantom stood before the Barrier.

The War Blade in the Dark Demon Monarch's hand vibrated at extremely high speed. Scorching red patterns slowly appeared across the blade, and the surrounding air seemed to ignite. The patterns rapidly brightened until scarlet Dragon Flame enveloped the entire War Blade.

In the next instant, the Dark Demon Monarch raised the War Blade and slammed it into the Isolation Barrier.

The murky gray Barrier trembled, and the gray light covering it visibly weakened.

But another Isolation Barrier appeared in the same place a moment later.

"Damn it. This is trouble."

The Dark Demon Monarch could not replenish its stamina in this state, and Wen Yu could not maintain it for long. He could only hope to break the Barrier before his stamina fell below half. Otherwise, he would have no choice but to turn and flee.

Facing the Ancient Demon Seed with half his stamina remaining was the absolute minimum Wen Yu required to ensure his own survival.

…

Outside, Wen Yu's attacks struck the Isolation Barrier wave after wave. Inside, the Ancient Demon Seed also sensed that time was running short.

Only time, however-not danger.

The Ancient Demon Seed could not defeat Wen Yu in the Dark Demon Monarch form head-on. But while the Ancient Demon Seed still possessed most of its stamina, catching it was virtually impossible for Wen Yu.

Strictly speaking, Yang Pengguang had lured the Ancient Demon Seed here. It had no pressing need to kill the humans trapped inside the Barrier.

Destroying the Outpost was already an enormous success.

However…

As it watched Sequence 3 swing his blade with deadly force, the killing intent in the Ancient Demon Seed's eyes grew stronger.

If it killed every Sequence member present, the reward it received from the Demon Lord would far exceed the reward for destroying the Outpost.

The Demon Race naturally had its own competition and division of labor.

This Ancient Demon Seed's "job" was hunting.

Hunting members of the Human Sequence.

In the next instant, the Ancient Demon Seed appeared behind Kuangliu.

Mysterious silver-white light flared in its hand before slashing down at Kuangliu's head.

…

The moment Kuangliu sensed the Barrier's defenses weakening under attacks from outside, he understood what was happening.

More importantly, he trusted Wen Yu's strength.

As long as Kuangliu held off the Ancient Demon Seed until Wen Yu broke through the Barrier, then regardless of whether they could keep the Demonic Creature from escaping, every surviving Class Holder in the conference room could at least preserve their life.

The instant Kuangliu sensed the Ancient Demon Seed disappear through Teleportation, he activated his strongest Combat State.

Thunder wrapped around him. Combined with the Physical Attribute enhancement from White Tiger Divine Might (SSS-Rank, Active Ability), Kuangliu's Physical Attribute rose by more than ten times. Added to that was the fifth Skill the Military had prepared after his Promotion.

Undying Overlord Body (SS Rank, Passive Ability): Grants the Host's body the Super Armor effect and permanently doubles the Host's Physical Attribute.

Note-Super Armor: No attack can interrupt or knock back the Host. All damage suffered by the Host is reduced by fifty percent.

The Skill combined offense and defense and suited Kuangliu extremely well.

Thunder (SS Rank, Active Ability) and White Tiger Divine Might (SSS-Rank, Active Ability) provided his offensive methods. Invincible (SS Rank, Active Ability) provided defense. Slaughter (S-Rank, Passive Ability) provided amplification and recovery. Undying Overlord Body added another enhancement and damage reduction. The Military had shaped Kuangliu, its War God, into an existence nearly unstoppable on a frontal battlefield.

Unfortunately, a Skill system that appeared Invincible became painfully powerless against an enemy whose offense, defense, and mobility all surpassed his own.

The first thing torn apart was Kuangliu's strongest defensive Skill-Invincible.
