Chapter 26 – Sun Ruixing and Li Quan'an

Volume 2: Battlefield Between Two Worlds

When the Mutated Vine burst out of the mountain, Sun Ruixing happened to be at the lowest point directly beneath the breakout.

Huge rocks came crashing down, and with a Class Holder's Physical Attribute, Sun Ruixing could even sense the panicked expressions of the Ordinary People around him.

A resolute look flashed through Sun Ruixing's eyes.

"Isn't it said that the stronger your ability, the greater your responsibility? The responsibility of the strong is to protect the weak, isn't it? That's what a Class Holder should do. That's what's right."

He drew the Small Round Shield from his back with a backhand motion, and Sun Ruixing's Skill activated.

Sun Ruixing: Class, Shield Warrior.

Defensive Stance (B-level Skill, passive): While holding a shield, greatly enhances defensive awareness.

There were no specific numbers. In fact, most Skills wouldn't come with specific numbers; a person's own ability would greatly affect how well a Skill could be brought to bear.

And Sun Ruixing's personal ability was strong.

All at once, Sun Ruixing swung a Small Wooden Shield like a madman-smashing and knocking-sending the flying chunks of rock straight back. Under Sun Ruixing's technique, the not-very-sturdy Small Wooden Shield didn't even show any major damage.

The crowd behind Sun Ruixing saw this usually honest, plain man erupt with such power, and for a moment they didn't react.

"What are you standing there thinking for? Hurry up and charge forward!"

Sun Ruixing's roar snapped the stunned people awake, and the crowd surged into commotion once again.

For the sake of their own lives, these old people, half-grown children, and middle-aged women screamed as they sprinted toward the front. In the packed mass, quite a few stampede accidents even occurred.

There was no pity and no sympathy. In these people's hearts, their own lives had always been far more valuable than anyone else's.

A flicker of disappointment passed through Sun Ruixing's eyes. Seeing that fewer and fewer rocks were falling, and that most of the crowd behind him had already run out of this area, Sun Ruixing made a decisive call and dashed forward.

Fortunately, the Mutated Vine that had burst out of the mountain didn't pay any attention to these Ordinary People. Perhaps it was because Ordinary People had too little nutritional content in their bodies; instead, it lunged toward the Class Holder Battalion behind them.

But the people behind were the elite force of all Hualin Town.

"Two per group, maintain formation, speed up."

In the middle, Li Quan'an grabbed Bai Feifei's small hand and shouted out his orders.

The Class Holder Battalion kept hacking and slashing at the Mutated Vine all around. Whenever someone was entangled, the others in the same group would immediately rescue their teammate.

This wave of Mutated Vine was mainly meant to wear down the lives of the Ordinary People, but because of Sun Ruixing's presence, the effect was extremely limited.

A small amount of Mutated Vine didn't have much effect on Li Quan'an and the others. In a situation where enemies surrounded them on all sides, the power of the team began to show.

When the main force at the very back finally rushed out of the mountain's shadow, what they saw was a shocking scene.

The Mutated Vine had wrapped up the Ordinary People charging at the very front like dumplings!

Countless human-shaped zongzi stood before everyone. The Vines on them twitched and lashed; from within some of those Vines, you could even hear human screams and the sound of bones snapping.

Most of the Vehicles in the convoy had already been coiled up by Vines, stuck in place and roaring nonstop, yet unable to move forward even a single step. Some Survivors in the Vehicles were trapped tightly inside, their faces showing panic and helplessness. Others managed to open the doors and get out, but the moment they stepped down, they were directly strangled to death by the Vines.

Mechanical power, when faced with a Mutant Plant, was utterly defeated.

Further ahead were two bedraggled figures.

Sun Ruixing, and Bai Xiao'an.

Sun Ruixing held Bai Xiao'an tightly behind him. The Small Round Shield in his hand kept slapping away the Vines that surged in, but there were simply too many Vines here.

Although the spot where the two of them stood was the path Wen Yu had cleared out, these Vines were able to move.

Wen Yu only cared about breaking out himself; he had no time to create favorable conditions for the people behind.

By now, several Mutated Vine had already wrapped around Bai Xiao'an's legs. The tremendous force yanked Bai Xiao'an, but Sun Ruixing's free hand gripped him tightly.

A Non-Class Holder simply couldn't withstand this kind of force.

Bai Xiao'an's screams grew more and more piercing. The Vines had already twisted and severed Bai Xiao'an's legs alive, and Sun Ruixing had no ability to pay attention to Bai Xiao'an anymore.

Not far away, Bai Feifei burst into tears with a "wah."

"Please, save him. Save him."

Hearing Bai Feifei's pleading, Li Quan'an made up his mind as well.

"Move in. Save them."

This wasn't just for Bai Xiao'an or Bai Feifei-it was also for themselves.

First of all, where the two of them were was on the only route his troops had to take; saving them was just along the way.

Second, it was because of Sun Ruixing's strength.

Li Quan'an had never seen Sun Ruixing fight before, but from the look of things now, this Sun Ruixing was clearly a Hidden Class.

If he could take Sun Ruixing under his wing…

Even if this guy's temperament didn't really mesh with his.

Even if this guy always did some "stupid things."

Even if he was hard to manage.

As long as he had strength, none of that was a problem!!

With Li Quan'an's order, the Class Holder team in the rear immediately launched a push forward.

With things already at this point, everyone understood: if they couldn't break through, they would die.

Steel Blades hacked rapidly at the Vines ahead. The moment anyone clearing the way got entangled by Vines, the people behind would immediately rescue them.

The entire team's advance wasn't even slower than Wen Yu and One-Eye.

In only a dozen or so seconds, the main group had already reached Sun Ruixing's position.

In the crowd, Li Quan'an drew his weapon for the first time.

Li Quan'an bent his legs, sprang hard, and shot straight out of the Class Holder formation. Then, with a quick lift and drop of his blade, he completely severed the Vines wrapped around Bai Xiao'an's leg.

"Hurry up, Brother Ruixing."

Li Quan'an directly hoisted the loudly crying Bai Xiao'an onto his back, grabbed Sun Ruixing-whose arms and legs had gone limp-and charged straight back into the Class Holder ranks.

Sun Ruixing didn't say any words of thanks. He only panted in great gulps of air, moving his utterly exhausted steps as he kept pace with the team.

As Li Quan'an and the others pushed deeper in, danger, naturally, still struck.

There were only this handful of living people left on the entire road. All the Vines closed in from every side; in an instant, above and below, there was nothing but these green, ferocious monsters.

"Speed up, speed up!"

Li Quan'an shouted as he urged them on. At the same time, Sun Ruixing beside him barely caught his breath back, picked up his shield, and was about to head to the very front of the team.

"Brother Sun, wait. Now's not the time yet."

Li Quan'an grabbed Sun Ruixing and said in a low voice.

Sun Ruixing looked at Li Quan'an with mixed emotions, the strength to press forward growing weaker and weaker.

Li Quan'an-he was using the remaining Class Holders as Cannon Fodder!

When the first Class Holder was directly swept into the air by a Mutated Vine, the scene began to collapse beyond control.

More and more people were dragged away by Vines. The whole team could no longer maintain formation at all. Everyone started charging forward in a mad rush, but they died even faster.

"Charge. Hurry. Now-this is the moment."

Li Quan'an said in a low voice to Sun Ruixing and the trusted aide beside him. Then, his figure flickered, and a gray-black shadow appeared out of thin air behind Li Quan'an.

Li Quan'an: Class, Shadow Warrior.

Shadow Clone (A-Rank Skill): Summons a mindless shadow clone. The clone has no Skills, but possesses all of the Host's Physical Attribute and combat experience.

As the people around them kept accelerating, Li Quan'an's shadow clone was the first to rush out, drawing the attention of most of the Vines. Most of the Vines in front twisted around the clone-then, with a soft pop, the clone vanished.

And Li Quan'an and the others had already run far ahead.

After summoning another clone, cold sweat had already beaded on Li Quan'an's forehead. Active Skills consumed stamina.

By the time Li Quan'an trembled as he summoned a clone for the eighth time, Li Quan'an and Sun Ruixing, carrying Bai Xiao'an and Bai Feifei, along with the last three Class Holders, finally burst out of this green hell.

Ahead, Wen Yu's figure appeared before their eyes-but it wasn't only Wen Yu.
