Chapter 37 – Entering the Town
Volume 2: Battlefield Between Two Worlds
Outside the Camp, in the direction leading to Chaihe Town.
Three people and one dog advanced toward Chaihe Town at a brisk pace.
"Li Dalong, tell us about the situation in Chaihe Town."
Li Dalong pondered for a moment, then motioned to Wen Yu. He squatted down, picked up a small stone, and began scratching lines on the ground.
"Look, this is Chaihe Town's main street. Below the street is a river, and across the river is the Jiangxi side.
"That side hasn't undergone shantytown redevelopment-it's all low, single-story houses. And it's close to the mountains, so there are a lot of Mutant Beast. Also, I heard that deep in the mountains there's a king among the Mutant Beast. A Giant Eagle with a wingspan of over ten meters. No one knows where it came from…
"The Jiangdong area is Chaihe Town's main district, and it's also where the Zombie horde is entrenched.
"These Zombie are organized and disciplined. There's only this one main road into Chaihe Town, and every day a large number of Zombie guard the entrance. There are other ways in, but they're all close to the mountains, and the threat from Mutant Beast is huge."
After finishing the rough sketch, Li Dalong quietly watched Wen Yu sink into thought.
"How many Zombie are at the entrance?"
Wen Yu asked cautiously.
"No fewer than a hundred. And their level isn't low now-about thirty percent are Level 1 Zombie."
"Mm. Then we'll go straight in through the front gate."
Li Dalong hesitated. "Won't that be too dangerous?"
Wen Yu stared straight at Li Dalong and Sun Ruixing and said without hesitation,
"It is dangerous for you. So if you think it's too dangerous, you can withdraw now. When the fight starts, I'll push in depending on the situation. Don't cling to ideas like: Wen Yu will give me a hand at a critical moment. Once we start fighting, I won't be able to look after anyone."
Li Dalong wavered, then after thinking for a moment, made up his mind.
"Can I pick up some scraps behind you? Like collecting some supplies."
Wen Yu smiled. "That's completely fine. I won't be collecting supplies from these shops or houses anyway. If you want them, they're all yours."
"Thank you, thank you."
What was Li Dalong here for? Nothing more than to find some food.
For someone who could barely get enough to eat, setting the goal of killing Zombie to earn Point was really asking too much.
"Oh right-Sun-Ge, what are you planning to do?"
Sun Ruixing had already decided. He said directly, "I'll push in depending on the situation."
"Mm. Be careful."
"Oh right, Li Dalong-where's that Zombie King?"
"I heard it's in Chaihe Town Hospital. Right here!"
As he spoke, Li Dalong jabbed hard at a spot on the crude hand-drawn map.
"Mm. Got it. Let's move."
…
The closer they got to Chaihe Town, the clearer the Zombies' hissing and shrieks became.
"We're almost there. It's just ahead,"
Li Dalong said in a low voice.
"One-Eye, go!"
One-Eye was absolutely the vanguard under Wen Yu's command-though, to be fair, Wen Yu currently seemed to have only this one soldier.
One-Eye let out two strange yelps and charged straight forward.
This was Wen Yu's "tactic." Having lived two lives, but judging from Wen Yu's experience so far, it was an indisputable fact that in both lives, Wen Yu was a total fool!
So there was basically no tactic at all-Wen Yu couldn't really come up with any decent tactics either!
Fortunately, Wen Yu's strength was extremely formidable.
In the face of overwhelming strength, crushing violence is the best tactic.
Hearing the sounds of battle ahead growing more and more intense, Wen Yu drew the Steel Blade from his back and spoke directly to the other two.
"You can go up too. Any Points you manage to snatch are yours. After we enter the town, it's every man for himself."
After saying that, without waiting for any reaction from them, Wen Yu entered Combat State and accelerated straight forward.
…
There were indeed plenty of Zombies. More than a hundred Zombies were packed into an area of a few dozen meters, giving a dense, swarming impression.
When Wen Yu reached the battlefield, what he saw was One-Eye unleashing its might.
There were quite a few Level 1 Zombies, but to One-Eye as it was now, they posed no threat at all!
Wen Yu even saw that there weren't many wounds on One-Eye's hide.
He swung his blade in a direct slash. The tremendous force tore apart the body of the Zombie closest to Wen Yu, while also chopping off the head of the second Zombie.
Foul blood splattered, yet it made Wen Yu find the feel of battle.
This was the battlefield he had been most familiar with in his previous life-surrounded by a ring of corpses, hot blood surging.
The difference was that in this life, he would be the Ruler of his own life and death-and even of others'.
By the time Sun Ruixing and Li Dalong arrived at the battlefield, the horde had basically been routed. A scattered dozen or so Zombies, under One-Eye's teasing, were each missing arms or legs.
"Go on. See if there are any still alive. You two can finish them off. Don't get near One-Eye, in case you get hit by accident."
After giving a faint greeting, Wen Yu walked straight toward the Exchange Pillar.
If you had Points, you used them to raise your strength-this was absolutely necessary.
As the Zombies grew stronger, the Points they could provide also increased. This group of Zombies provided Wen Yu with a little over a thousand Points.
He directly exchanged for two Level 2 Attribute-Less Magic Crystals, and Wen Yu's Physical Attribute had reached 15.5 Points.
Watching One-Eye kill off the last few Zombies, Wen Yu nodded at the two people not far away who were finishing them off, then walked straight into Chaihe Town.
His target pointed straight at the Town Hospital!
…
The Town Hospital was the only hospital in Chaihe Town.
As Chaihe Town's economy continued to develop, the old, shabby building from the past had been renovated into something increasingly presentable.
At three stories tall, it wasn't high, but it did cover a truly large area.
At this moment, in the lobby on the third floor.
An operating table had been moved here by someone. On it lay the corpse of a huge Mutated pig.
Its white, plump body had no sharp claws, and its build still looked clumsy, but its razor-sharp tusks reminded everyone that this thing could no longer be classified as food.
A Zombie hurried in. If not for the exposed facial bones and the gray-white eyes, its agile movements were no different from a human's!
"Roar, roar."
Although a Level 2 Zombie already possessed simple intelligence, the corrosion of Demon Qi had cut off the possibility for most Zombies to speak again.
Hearing the cries of this Level 2 Zombie, an enormous head emerged from the Mutated pig's corpse.
This was Chaihe Town's Zombie King.
A body three meters tall, bluish-gray skin-its overall form was simply an enlarged version of a human.
Except that this Zombie King's right hand was far too large!!
