Chapter 28 – Who Is Thinking of Me?

“Hurry! We have a car accident victim coming in!”

“Move, move, move! Get her inside immediately!”

At Ningnan Third People’s Hospital, as an ambulance roared up to the emergency bay, several nurses and orderlies immediately surrounded it with a gurney.

However, just as they were rushing the female patient toward the emergency room, the woman-who had been unconscious and appeared to be in critical condition-suddenly opened her eyes.

Her gaze seemed vacant. At the same time, a Black Thread slithered out of her nostril before wriggling back in along the trail of fresh blood…

Today was registration day at Ningnan University.

Shen Fei had been standing at the freshman welcome desk all morning, but he hadn’t seen any sign of Qiu Yuming. He couldn’t help but think that if Su Lifeng were the one standing here, that cute junior might have actually shown up.

But that thought was unscientific, as Qiu Yuming had already stated that Su Lifeng wasn’t her boyfriend.

The fact that she had bothered to explain that to him meant she must have some feelings for him, right?

Yeah… that had to be it.

So, Shen Fei only felt a sense of regret; despite facing a junior who liked him, he couldn’t afford to keep waiting forever.

A dusty sedan pulled up to the gate, and a somewhat haggard-looking middle-aged man stepped out. He opened the passenger door and led a young girl out.

The girl was fair-skinned and pretty, but what truly caught the eye were her wide-open eyes and her vacant expression.

A few female college students walking by couldn’t help but whisper in admiration, “What an innocent, adorable little sister!”

Shen Fei caught sight of the pair and reluctantly left the welcome desk, stepping forward to greet them.

“You must be Nannan, right?” Shen Fei said with a smile. He couldn’t take his eyes off Nannan… He had seen this girl before, but she seemed different now. Back then, she wasn’t nearly this quiet, and her eyes hadn’t been this vibrant. They said girls changed as they grew up, but he hadn’t expected it to apply to such a little lolita too.

“Hello, Uncle Ye,” Shen Fei said, sighing as he shifted his gaze to the middle-aged man.

“Hello. I’m really sorry to trouble your family this time,” Ye Long said.

Shen Fei felt his reaction was a bit strange. Although he was holding Nannan’s hand, his body was stiff, as if he were extremely nervous.

Perhaps the psychological trauma from the disaster hadn’t faded yet, but even so, he looked a bit too terrible. This didn’t look like someone who had escaped with his life; it looked like someone who expected the world to end at any moment… Shen Fei thought to himself, though he said aloud, “It’s no trouble. We’re all relatives, after all. Helping out with something small like this is fine. It’s rare that you’d think of coming to Ningnan…”

“Um,” Ye Long suddenly interrupted before Shen Fei could finish his pleasantries. His expression seemed to grow even more tense. “Among your classmates, is there a young man named Su Lifeng?”

“Eh?” Shen Fei blinked, nodding instinctively. “Yeah, he’s a graduate student in the School of Life Sciences, just like me. Uncle Ye, how do you know him?”

Ye Long’s lips twitched. His face suddenly paled, and he shook his head. “I was just asking. I… I’ll leave Nannan in your care for the tour. I have to go now. I’ll come pick her up this afternoon.”

Seeing Ye Long leave in such a hurry, a look of confusion crossed Shen Fei’s face. What was that all about?

Just then, he felt a tug on his sleeve. Looking down, he saw that Ye Nannan had grabbed hold of him. She was staring at him with those large eyes that didn’t seem to blink. “Are you very close with Su Lifeng?”

Shen Fei felt a sudden tightness in his chest… Why did every cute girl have to ask about Su Lifeng!

“Don’t tell me you’re a fan of his too?” Shen Fei asked.

Nannan acted as if she hadn’t heard him and asked another question: “Do you know where he lives?”

Qiu Yuming had actually been hiding nearby for a while. She watched with a hint of curiosity as Shen Fei led the little girl away, then glanced back at the school gate with a touch of disappointment.

On a registration day like this, perhaps Su Lifeng wouldn’t show up after all.

She was still thinking about the scene where Su Lifeng had jumped out of the window. At the time, she just thought it was juicy gossip, but looking back, his movements had been unexpectedly agile.

This Senior Su might just be a very interesting person…

“H-hello.” Just then, a dry, raspy voice broke her out of her reverie.

Startled, Qiu Yuming quickly turned around and looked at the man in front of her with surprise.

The man wore a smile, but it didn’t feel friendly at all; instead, it was somewhat terrifying.

Moreover, in such sweltering weather, he was dressed far too heavily. He wore a full suit and a hat that didn’t quite fit, and he emitted a pungent, strange odor-like a mixture of perfume and something else.

When he held up the press badge on his chest, Qiu Yuming noticed his hands.

In this weather, it couldn’t possibly be frostbite, could it? But if it wasn’t, what were those pitted, lumpy scars?

“I am Li Yi, a Reporter. I’m looking for someone, but her… her family won’t let me in. Do you know how I can find her?” the man asked.

Being stared at by the man made Qiu Yuming feel very uncomfortable, and she felt his question was rather nonsensical. She simply pointed toward the campus. “I don’t know. If she’s a student here, she’ll likely be here today to register. You can find a place there to wait.”

“Can you… lead the way?” The man seemed to notice Qiu Yuming looking at his hands, but he didn’t care, continuing with his request.

Qiu Yuming hesitated for a moment and shook her head. “I’m sorry, I’m waiting for someone here too.”

“Understood.” The Reporter named Li Yi didn’t thank her; he simply turned and walked away.

Watching his retreating back, Qiu Yuming felt an inexplicable chill.

“We haven’t seen each other all break. Can’t we just go over there and chat?”

“Stop it. Every time you say ‘chat,’ you just mean getting handsy. Why else would we go into the woods?”

“See, you know me best, honey. Come on, give me a kiss…”

“Get off me! Not here, let’s go further in!”

A couple walked into the woods, arms around each other, but the girl noticed that someone had followed them in.

She quickly alerted the boy, who was already eager to pounce. After glancing at the intruder, the boy’s expression immediately soured.

“Some people just don’t have eyes! Why be a third wheel?” He glared at the man and cursed under his breath.

To his surprise, however, the man walked straight toward them.

The boy suddenly felt a bit panicked. Had they run into some kind of lunatic?

“Hey, I wasn’t talking about you. What do you want?” After saying a few words, the boy grabbed the girl’s arm. “Let’s go.”

Right then, the man suddenly accelerated and lunged forward, grabbing the girl from behind.

The boy was about to explode in rage when he watched in horror as countless Black Threads crawled out of the man’s mouth. they swarmed into the girl’s wide-open mouth as she tried to scream for help, even forcing their way into her nose, eyes, and ears…

“Mon…” The boy stumbled back two steps in a panic. Just as he was about to scream, a mass of Black Threads covered his vision…

A minute later, only two mummified corpses remained.

Li Yi lifted his hand and looked at it. Yes, it had returned to normal…

At that same moment, Su Lifeng sneezed. “Is someone thinking about me?”
