Chapter 62 – In Through the Window, Out Through the Front Door
“Let’s see which is faster-me killing her, or you attacking me!” Cheng Feiwen shouted with a laugh.
The corner of Su Lifeng’s eye twitched. It wasn’t entirely because of Tang Tang. It was Cheng Feiwen’s attitude.
He was using a human life to provoke him.
Perhaps sensing the threat of death, Tang Tang’s eyelids fluttered, and she opened her eyes a crack.
Through her haze, she saw Su Lifeng with a pair of blood-red wings sprouting from his back. Instinctively, she forced out a single word. “Help… help…”
“Hahaha! I’ve read your sister’s file. Honestly, Xie Yu really does have a good eye for these things. She is the best possible candidate. She’s talented, bold but careful, and most valuable of all, she’s still young. That makes most people lower their guard around her at first sight. But that’s Xie Yu’s idea. As for me, I’m more looking forward to the moment I absorb her. Watching a young, beautiful life slowly turn into a skeleton wrapped in pretty skin…” Cheng Feiwen spoke extremely fast, sounding utterly deranged, but his eyes were dark and brooding.
Enrage him. Disrupt him. Make him choose wrong.
Of course, Cheng Feiwen’s words weren’t entirely lies. The instant he said them, he really did feel a surge of excitement.
But he quickly calmed down. He was not Xie Yu. He didn’t believe that becoming a Mutant made him all that incredible. People who got too arrogant tended to die very quickly…
“Shut up!” Su Lifeng’s eyes instantly went bloodshot.
In that moment, he felt as if something inside him had suddenly ignited.
What is it?
Su Lifeng had no time to spare on the thought. Right now, Cheng Feiwen was the only thing left in his eyes.
Tang Tang’s cry for help and the screams constantly rising from below seemed to fade into background noise.
They battered against Su Lifeng, while Cheng Feiwen’s crazed laughter became the spark that set the fire alight.
Boom!
The flames burst open in an instant.
Cheng Feiwen saw the red veins across Su Lifeng’s wings glow as if they were burning. Then a flash of fire streaked by, and Su Lifeng abruptly appeared less than a meter away from him.
Was he going to save Tang Tang, or attack him?
Cheng Feiwen had plans for both. He thought it was slightly more likely that Su Lifeng would attack him directly.
If that happened, the tongue Su Lifeng had ignored would turn in time, and one of its forked tips would pierce straight through his skull.
But when reality unfolded before his eyes, Cheng Feiwen was suddenly horrified to discover that while he had predicted many things, he had somehow missed one crucial point.
Su Lifeng’s speed.
His wings couldn’t fly. But when those “flames” appeared, the Bone Wings raised his speed to an astonishing level in an instant.
So while Cheng Feiwen was still thinking, his tongue was seized in the very next moment.
The barbs instantly stabbed into Su Lifeng’s arm, and numbness began spreading at once. At the same time, however, Cheng Feiwen had already been slammed hard into the wall beside him.
Bang, bang, bang!
A flash of deathly pale light swept past Cheng Feiwen’s eyes. The next second, he felt as though his eye sockets, nose, and mouth had all been smashed by a hammer.
Blood sprayed everywhere. The blows kept coming.
In just a few seconds, Cheng Feiwen was beaten senseless.
Through the blood, he saw Su Lifeng’s eyes: cold, silent, as if he didn’t care about the numbness spreading through his own body at all.
Punch after punch.
Cheng Feiwen suddenly felt fear. Was he planning to beat him to death with his bare hands?
Just like Cheng Feiwen had planned to slowly suck Su Lian dry until she became a skeleton?
“No… no! Help! Help me!”
Cheng Feiwen began struggling violently, but red light flashed behind Su Lifeng, and the Bone Wings instantly stabbed into both of Cheng Feiwen’s shoulders, pinning him to the wall. His tongue was still gripped tightly in Su Lifeng’s hand, and though the barbs kept tearing open Su Lifeng’s skin, Su Lifeng’s expression never changed.
“Aaaah!” Cheng Feiwen had never felt such terror before. In that instant, he suddenly realized he had made the wrong choice.
He was the one who had released the beast inside Su Lifeng…
Bang!
At last, as a fist slammed down with brutal force, the Exoskeleton shattered. Cheng Feiwen’s nasal bone broke completely with a sharp crack.
The agony wrung a shrill scream from him even as his breath grew weak. As he collapsed, Su Lifeng grabbed him by the throat and dragged him into the spotlight.
Bang!
The corpse hit the ground heavily, and the entire arena fell silent for a moment.
There were still some people alive, but most of them had already suffered a complete emotional breakdown.
The only ones who still knew to look up were the Mutants who had killed until their eyes were bloodshot, who had sunk completely into madness.
They raised their heads, the ferocity in their eyes not yet faded.
Upstairs, the figure standing beside Tang Tang had his Bone Wings spread behind him, the barbs at their tips dripping blood. One of his arms hung limp, as if it had completely lost all feeling, while the other was still held in the posture of having thrown Cheng Feiwen down.
Suddenly, his wrist flicked, and a short scalpel appeared in his hand.
“Come at me together,” Su Lifeng said. The fire still burned inside him. He did not even realize how cold his tone was when he spoke those words. But his eyes were filled with fury toward this pack of scum.
The Mutants exchanged glances. The “female monster” was the first to let out an “ah” and charge up the stairs.
Three minutes, maybe five… Dragging a body that was only half-functional along with a pair of Bone Wings, Su Lifeng killed several Mutants in succession.
By the time he was the only one left standing on the second floor, his entire body had been dyed red with blood.
One of his Bone Wings had snapped, and a long gash had appeared on his thigh.
Bang!
Su Lifeng tossed aside the corpse of the “female monster” he had been holding, her mouth covered in blood and her eyes still wide open. Then he turned and walked toward Tang Tang.
Tang Tang’s eyes were still slightly open, blinking from time to time, but it looked as if her mind had not fully recovered yet.
Still, when she saw Su Lifeng crouch down in front of her, drenched in blood from head to toe, she struggled to move her lips. Before she could even speak, two streams of tears rolled down her face. “I’m… I’m sorry… I…”
Seeing that she had completely lost strength and fainted, Su Lifeng thought for a moment, then picked her up anyway.
Looking over the railing, he glanced downstairs and found that the survivors were all basically staring blankly. They probably only knew that they were in the midst of a crazed, terrifying slaughter. They had no idea what had happened afterward, and they certainly did not know that they were already safe.
“Sigh…” He let out a breath. After searching Cheng Feiwen and taking everything on him, he carried Tang Tang back to the window they had come through.
But the moment he looked down, he was startled.
Cheng Xiaomei looked up with a deathly pale face. Around her lay fallen guards.
“Th-they found me while they were patrolling, but I didn’t dare leave this place…” At that point, she turned away again, braced herself against the wall, and dry-heaved. Whether it was because she had witnessed the scene inside the warehouse or because she had killed someone, there was no telling.
Because Su Lifeng could clearly see that several of the guards’ faces were covered in blood…
“Then we can leave through the front gate,” Su Lifeng said after a moment of silence.
