The Gate of Extinction | Chapter 69

Fury Road

Chapter 69 – Fury Road

A few minutes later, Su Lifeng and Gouzi drove away from the nightclub.

At the entrance to the surveillance room, the nightclub owner, who had already felt his future going dark, saw the state of the room and went weak at the knees. He collapsed onto the floor.

On the computer screens, there was nothing left but static…

The owner raised his arm, the one with the gold watch, the fat all over his body trembling as he suddenly let out a shrill scream. “Who did this?!!!”

Not far away, Xiao Liu took a deep drag on his cigarette. Holding back the tremors running through him, he said heavily to the people beside him, “Call the police… Hm? You can’t find the greeter from last night? Well… maybe he was afraid of being questioned and ran off…”

“Su-Ge, do you think Liuzi will really do what you said and find a way to keep the police from knowing Qin Moyun was there last night, at least for now?” Gouzi asked worriedly from inside the car.

Su Lifeng nodded. “He will. Because he’s afraid of dying.”

“Yeah…” Gouzi fell silent at once.

Death might not be the most terrifying thing in the world, but a death as miserable as that was enough to crush what little “toughness” men like them had.

“Still, no matter what, he won’t be able to buy us much time. Twenty-four hours at most,” Su Lifeng said.

“Then are we going to Zelong Trading now?”

“Of course not. How are we supposed to make a move in broad daylight-“

“Screech-!”

Before Su Lifeng could finish, a Shadowy Figure suddenly appeared in front of the car, and Gouzi slammed on the brakes.

After taking a second to catch his breath, Gouzi immediately reached for the door in a fury. “Fuck your mother, are you blind, or are you trying to scam us for damages?! You don’t even know who’s sitting in this car, you fucking-“

But at that moment, Su Lifeng’s scalp prickled. He shouted, “Don’t open the door!”

Almost the instant he shouted, the Shadowy Figure snapped its head up. In the blink of an eye, it had leaped onto the hood, and a mass of Black Thread spilled from its mouth, smashing toward the windshield.

“Ah!” Gouzi screamed in fright.

“It’s that drunk woman from earlier…” Su Lifeng had seen her once and vaguely remembered her clothes, but even he hadn’t expected a Xenospecies to imitate someone so convincingly.

They happened to be in a relatively narrow stretch in the middle of the alley, with no buildings on either side. Gouzi might have been a good driver, but just now, all he could do was stop. There had been no room to swerve around her.

“Drive forward!” Su Lifeng shouted.

The moment he opened his mouth, he saw many figures vaulting over the walls on both sides. Even behind the car, Xenospecies were pouncing toward them.

“Fuck, fuck! She must’ve called all of them here!” Gouzi yelled, stomping down on the gas.

“Bang!”

The windshield in front of them shattered, and at the same time, the car body shuddered. In an instant, Black Thread was everywhere on all sides.

In this life-or-death moment, Gouzi felt his potential suddenly erupt. He swung the car hard to the side, and the female Xenospecies sprawled across the hood was flung off. The car jolted, clearly running over the legs she had slipped down on.

But what nearly drove Gouzi insane was that the female Xenospecies showed no reaction of pain at all. The Black Thread that had shattered the glass was still wrapped around the windshield wipers and was burrowing straight into the car.

“Aaaah!!!”

Amid Gouzi’s screaming, Su Lifeng suddenly reached out, grabbed the Black Thread, and yanked it hard. Then his knife flashed down, cutting it away.

Without that pulling force, the female Xenospecies died beneath the wheels without so much as a grunt, while a new strand of Black Thread burrowed into Su Lifeng’s wrist.

“Keep driving. Don’t stop!” Su Lifeng said. Then he turned, opened his own car door, and kicked down a Xenospecies clinging to it.

The instant Su Lifeng felt a needle-like prickling sensation sweep across the top of his head, a flash of red light burst from behind him. The next moment, a spray of blood came tumbling down along with a corpse.

“Ahhh! Die, die, die!”

Gouzi felt as if his mind had gone completely blank. His eyes were locked on the road ahead, and his foot had practically floored the gas pedal.

Just one hundred meters. After a mere hundred meters, he would be able to drive onto the main road.

But in that short stretch, his ears were constantly filled with all sorts of dull, muffled thuds.

Su Lifeng made no sound when he killed. The Xenospecies made no sound when they attacked either. Yet it was precisely this silent bloodshed that made Gouzi feel as if his heart was about to leap out of his chest.

If you’re about to start fighting, at least make some noise!

The narrow road ahead and the walls on either side looked to him as though they were smeared with blood, pressing in on him from all directions.

Even so, Gouzi still knew that Su Lifeng held the absolute upper hand.

His wheels kept crushing things beneath them. Gouzi did not want to look, but judging from the blood constantly splashing past his windshield, he knew those things had to be Xenospecies.

Finally, when half the body of a Xenospecies slammed onto the hood in front of him, stared at him with blank, lifeless eyes, and then slid off, Su Lifeng, panting heavily, returned to the passenger seat.

Su Lifeng slammed the door shut. His first question was, “Where did this car come from?”

“I-I don’t know… Maybe it belonged to one of the customers. I didn’t think that far…” Gouzi drove on mechanically.

What he really meant was that when he had driven the car out, he never in a million years expected to go through something this thrilling…

“Oh. Good. Then find somewhere to ditch it,” Su Lifeng said.

When that unlucky customer saw this car, he would probably lose his mind…

“Or maybe the police will just tell him it was stolen and still hasn’t been recovered,” Su Lifeng thought, glancing at the deformed car, now covered in blood, flesh, and Black Thread.

Then he turned his head and looked back toward the alley they had already left behind.

His instincts told him that the Xenospecies’ attack had not been some coincidence…

“So that’s how strong he is now… Amazing.”

On the second floor of a building, a pair of eyes was watching the “blood car” drive farther and farther away.

But very soon, that gaze shifted back into the alley.

“Time to go, or they’ll start looking everywhere for me again,” the owner of those eyes muttered to herself.

Not long after the figure behind the window disappeared, another figure appeared in the alley.

It was a man with a vacant look in his eyes, dressed in a waiter’s uniform. He glanced at the corpses strewn all over the ground, then tilted his head in puzzlement. “These… aren’t our companions… Has another Wisdom Species come to Ningnan? But these Soldier Type units… something about them seems off…”

A dozen minutes later, on an ordinary commercial street not too far from this block…

A middle-aged man was anxiously looking around when, all of a sudden, his hand was gently taken from behind.

The man trembled all over. The anxiety on his face vanished, and in an instant, countless complicated emotions flashed across it.

Then he turned around and looked at the petite figure behind him. “Nannan, where did you go?”

Ye Nannan smiled and replied, “I went to see a friend.”

“Did you see them?”

“Sort of. Dad, let’s go. I still want to wait for Shen Fei-Ge to come home and tell me more about Lifeng-Ge…”
