Chapter 90 – The Great Hostage Operation
“Mmph! Mmph!” The bound figure struggled with all his might.
Wang Zhao stared at him for a couple of seconds as if he were looking at something interesting, then hauled him out.
“Human knowledge is very complicated, especially when it comes to behavior. There are many things I can’t understand. When I was a police officer, I saw many cases. Sometimes a criminal would kill a complete stranger simply for pleasure. Very strange. Is pleasure something equivalent to evolution? But at the same time, I learned some useful information. For example, hostages. A hostage can restrict a person’s actions, and even make the other party make extremely foolish judgments.”
Wang Zhao tossed the figure onto the ground, then crouched and asked him, “When I found you, you kept shouting for the other side to come avenge you. So, as I understand it, you are the kind of person with hostage value. Correct?”
“Mmph…” Gouzi glared at him. He could not speak, but even if he could, he had no idea how to answer that.
“However, whether it’s you or that member of the Mutants, both of you were only dealt with in passing. You are not tonight’s main characters. My father is, along with this city’s public security system. In human terms, you two are the side entertainment, I suppose.” Wang Zhao patted his face, then straightened. “Come out. Take him away.”
Two figures emerged from the shadows. As Black Thread extended from their bodies and reached toward him, Gouzi instantly began thrashing wildly again.
If I’m not a main character, then let me go!
However, Gouzi knew very well that in the other party’s eyes, he truly was nothing more than an ant.
Su-Ge, too…
Deputy Director Wang had been right. The sound of police sirens had alerted Su Lifeng.
At the time, he had been moving quickly through a narrow alley. When he heard the sound, he slowed his steps and turned to glance in the direction it had come from.
“Thank you,” Su Lifeng thought.
With his way of thinking and the information he knew, it only took a moment for him to figure out what had happened. Jiang Yushi’s decisiveness, however, did surprise him somewhat. It seemed he was not the only one whose mindset had changed during this period.
“But Jiang Yushi hasn’t done anything illegal, and she’s the daughter of Jiangnan Biomedical, so she shouldn’t run into any major trouble. It does mean, though, that I don’t have much time left.” Su Lifeng circled around behind the last nearby surveillance camera, then took off his trench coat.
Whoosh!
As two streaks of red light spread across the top of the wall, Su Lifeng’s speed erupted in full. The Crimson Bone Wings behind him instantly turned into two streams of flowing fire as he moved, rapidly receding into the night.
Not far away, two drunk women were flirting and joking with a man who was enthusiastically inviting them into his car. One of the women caught sight of the scene out of the corner of her eye and immediately cried out, “What was that? Flying flames? I think there was a person there too. So cool…”
“What flames? What person? You’re drunk!” her companion immediately mocked.
“It really was cool. Forget it, I’m not talking to you about it…”
Whoosh!
In less than a minute, Su Lifeng’s figure had already appeared on top of a wall several hundred meters away.
His hands were braced against the landing point beneath him, and the Bone Wings on his back were still trembling faintly.
“Oh yeah? Then just give me a kiss…”
A man and woman were flirting under a streetlight. The man was half bald and reeked of alcohol. At that moment, he was puckering his greasy, thick lips, eyes half closed, as he spoke to the young woman in front of him.
The young woman giggled. Just as her red lips were about to draw close, a look like that of someone watching prey flashed through her eyes, and several strands of Black Thread had already extended outward.
“Pfft!”
Just then, her eyes suddenly flew wide open, and the tip of a military spike emerged from her open mouth.
Su Lifeng, who had landed behind her, pulled the military spike free, then turned to look in the direction of the nightclub.
Looks like Gouzi was right. This really was a Xenospecies stronghold. From this distance, he could already see Xenospecies. If anything, that proved everything was normal.
The man was sprayed full in the face with blood, and then the Xenospecies collapsed into his arms.
“Hey, baby, you’re being naughty. Why so shy all of a sudden, asking for a hug… Wait, did you just spit all over my face?” The man opened his eyes and helped the Xenospecies in his arms upright. One look, and his soul nearly left his body. “A corpse… A monster!”
He shoved the Xenospecies away, but he no longer had the strength to run. Instead, he slumped to the floor, staring in terror as the Xenospecies rapidly began to rot. A puddle slowly spread between his legs.
Killing that female Xenospecies was nothing more than a small interlude for Su Lifeng. Absorbing her replenished the stamina he had just used up.
As he gradually approached the nightclub, his condition also steadily climbed back to its peak.
Any Xenospecies he ran into on the way, he killed.
After killing five Xenospecies in a row, Su Lifeng, military spike still dripping blood in hand, pushed open the nightclub’s doors.
“I’m here for revenge.” Su Lifeng had thought the nightclub would be packed with Xenospecies, and that this would be what he said to them.
But to his surprise, there was only one very familiar Xenospecies in the main hall of the nightclub, along with an equally familiar figure. The latter was tied to a pole used for performances.
“Qin Moyun… Gouzi.” Su Lifeng’s pupils contracted.
The moment Gouzi saw Su Lifeng appear, he immediately twisted his body, but very quickly, with a muffled groan, pain contorted his face.
The Black Thread on Qin Moyun’s body was inserted into Gouzi’s neck. As the Black Thread shifted slightly, his body instantly began to convulse.
Yet even as she absorbed him, Qin Moyun’s body continued to rot. Large amounts of flesh kept liquefying and running down from her…
At that moment, she looked calmly at Su Lifeng with a face that had already rotted halfway away and said, “At my current absorption speed, I will absorb him in about a minute. You interrupted my most important absorption and cut off my evolution. I’ve already absorbed over a hundred of my own kind and still haven’t fully recovered, but if I can absorb you, I still have a chance to evolve again.”
“So you should be my final chance.” Qin Moyun spread her tattered bat wings. Her neck jerked sharply, and with a joint-popping sound that set one’s teeth on edge, half of Qin Moyun’s face transformed into a bat’s at a speed visible to the naked eye. “You can try and see whether you can kill me within one minute. But if you try to save him, I will swallow him immediately. That should tie your hands quite a bit, shouldn’t it?”
“Was this plan made by the Xenospecies who sent him here?” Su Lifeng asked.
“Yes. What, do you want revenge on him too? Revenge. I learned that word from this human friend of yours,” Qin Moyun said.
“No, just asking. He was already on my must-kill list.” The moment Su Lifeng finished speaking, the Bone Wings on his back moved with a whoosh, and in the next instant, he appeared directly in front of Qin Moyun.
