Chapter 241 – Awkward Pick-Up Lines
“Aren’t you going to help?” Ling Mo asked.
“No need, they can handle it.”
Sun Zeya chuckled, tugged at the night vision goggles hanging around her neck, and gave Ling Mo’s arm a playful slap.
Ling Mo frowned slightly and subtly shifted his body, dodging her touch without making it obvious.
This action took Sun Zeya by surprise, but her eyes soon lit up. “Wow, you’re really something! So, it was you who killed that Senior Zombie, right? Am I right?”
“Don’t be so serious. Let me introduce myself. I’m Sun Zeya, and those two are my teammates. One’s Wang Heng, and the other’s Li Fei.”
Sun Zeya’s eyes sparkled with interest as she looked at Ling Mo, clearly fascinated by him.
This woman was incredibly forward… And the fact that she could approach him so quietly showed she was quite capable.
Most importantly, despite knowing there was a Senior Zombie outside, they dared to come out, which meant they believed they had the strength to deal with it.
“Ling Mo.”
Ling Mo didn’t introduce Ye Lian and the three girls. He was still cautious since these people’s identities were unclear.
However, the fact that they noticed something unusual here and immediately sent people to help left a good impression on Ling Mo. Otherwise, he would have left with Ye Lian and the three girls long ago.
“Hmm… That’s a nice name,” Sun Zeya said with a smile.
She noticed Ling Mo seemed a bit wary, but she didn’t appear to mind at all.
It was easy to tell who Ye Lian and the three girls were since they were all so close to Ling Mo…
Trying to squeeze in next to Ling Mo like she did only earned her cold glares from the three girls, which was quite obvious…
What Sun Zeya didn’t know was that Ye Lian and the three girls weren’t giving her the cold shoulder out of jealousy; they were naturally indifferent to humans.
Their jealousy wouldn’t just manifest as coldness—it would involve tearing the other person to pieces in seconds.
“It’s just a regular name, nothing special… If you’re trying to get closer, at least come up with something less cliché…”
Ling Mo thought to himself.
Sun Zeya’s every move, even her gaze, was reminiscent of those clumsy men trying to hit on someone.
The fact that a woman could make Ling Mo feel this way was quite amusing.
However, the firelight allowed Ling Mo to see her profile clearly.
Her features were attractive, and she had a heroic aura. Her overall demeanor was quite impressive.
If she stood still without speaking and dressed a bit more femininely, she could have easily attracted a lot of attention in the past.
“They’re about to retreat. Come with us,” Sun Zeya said, glancing upstairs before suddenly reaching out to grab Ling Mo’s arm.
Ling Mo stepped back, but she quickly twisted her wrist and grasped his hand with surprising speed.
“Don’t be so cold to me, let’s go.”
“This woman is indeed quite strong…”
Ling Mo could have used his Puppet Control Ability to dodge, but given the unclear situation, there was no need to reveal his superpower.
Besides, he didn’t sense any malice from her.
“Let’s follow them,” Ling Mo said to Ye Lian and the three girls.
As for Black Silk, Ling Mo had it follow from a distance, maintaining the furthest possible distance to avoid being noticed by Sun Zeya.
Ye Lian and Li Yalin quietly put down their weapons and nodded.
If Ling Mo had shaken his head or even given a Psychic Command, Sun Zeya’s head might have rolled on the ground.
As Sun Zeya turned to lead Ling Mo, a flicker of horror flashed in her smiling eyes: “Such intense killing intent… That really scared me! But finding these survivors is definitely the biggest gain this time! My decision was absolutely right!”
Although Ling Mo didn’t know what Sun Zeya was thinking, the few low chuckles she let out made his scalp tingle…
When they rounded a building and reached an open space, more than a dozen figures emerged from the direction of the building.
The sound of explosions from that direction began to subside, but the firelight illuminated the entire area.
The person at the rear was exceptionally tall. As he entered Ling Mo’s field of vision, he turned and fired his gun.
With a gunshot, a Zombie engulfed in flames staggered and then fell to the ground.
“See that big guy? His nickname is Tom. He’s a Chinese-American special forces instructor and quite formidable. But he’s not as enthusiastic as I am,” Sun Zeya said, still holding onto Ling Mo as if afraid he might run away.
“Special forces instructor? So that means…” Ling Mo’s eyes flashed with curiosity. “Are you all military?”
Li Fei chimed in, “You’ve got a keen eye.”
“Could it be…” Before Ling Mo could finish his question, the tall soldier named Tom started walking over.
Tom wiped the sweat from his forehead and scrutinized Ling Mo and his group with a frown. When he saw Ye Lian and the three girls, his expression turned notably impatient.
“Sun Zeya, are these the ones you rescued? I suppose some people must have died? Seems like those folks were pretty soft-hearted…” Tom’s voice was deep and his tone somewhat cold. The last sentence was especially sarcastic: “By the way, what happened to that Senior Zombie?”
Sun Zeya let out a cold laugh and pushed Ling Mo forward. “I didn’t rescue them, just lent a little help. Honestly, even if we hadn’t intervened, they could have handled it. Also, these folks are quite formidable themselves, and they don’t have any other companions. Plus, it was Ling Mo who killed that Senior Zombie.”
Tom had initially given Ling Mo only a cursory glance, quickly losing interest. After all, Ling Mo’s build seemed unremarkable compared to any of the soldiers behind Tom.
Especially compared to Tom himself, a muscular giant… And the key point was that while they all had guns, Ling Mo was only holding a primitive melee weapon.
Sun Zeya’s words made Tom freeze just as he was pulling out his cigarette pack.
He stared at Ling Mo in shock.
It wasn’t just Tom; the soldiers gathering around also looked at Ling Mo in astonishment, their eyes filled with disbelief.
“No way… Didn’t that Senior Zombie escape from Instructor Tom?”
“Could he be… a superhuman?”
This comment instantly ignited the atmosphere, and the soldiers’ gazes toward Ling Mo changed immediately.
“If he’s really a superhuman, then this mission is as good as completed!” one soldier said excitedly.
“Looks like our luck isn’t bad after all!” another chimed in.
“Let’s ask first before jumping to conclusions…” some remained skeptical.
“Hey, Wang Heng, did you see anything? Is he a superhuman?” someone whispered to Wang Heng and Li Fei.
“Uh… I was focused on the Zombies… How would we know how they fought?” Wang Heng shrugged helplessly. “But that Senior Zombie was indeed taken down by them, and it should be that young guy who did it.”
Tom stared at Ling Mo for a moment, his expression growing serious. “Are you a superhuman?”
Ling Mo just gave a noncommittal smile.
This expression was naturally taken as confirmation by those around him.
Low murmurs of discussion immediately rose up again, and all eyes were on Ling Mo.
“Really?” Tom put the cigarette pack away and then extended his hand solemnly. “I apologize for the earlier offense. You all are impressive.”
Ling Mo just glanced at Tom’s extended hand and asked, “Was it you who punched that Senior Zombie in the eye?”
Tom looked at him, then nodded. “Yes.”
“Are you also a superhuman?”
“Haha, no, I’m just an ordinary soldier,” Tom replied with a smile and a shake of his head.
Ling Mo pondered for a moment before extending his hand, sincerely saying, “You’re impressive as well.”
Tom’s attitude of only respecting the strong had initially irked Ling Mo, but considering that Tom, an ordinary person, could punch an Advanced Zombie…
Such a formidable individual indeed had the right to be proud.
“Tom, make sure you understand that they came back with me. For now, let’s head to the temporary shelter. We’ll move out again in the morning. Ling Mo, you all should come with us,” Sun Zeya said as she firmly gripped Ling Mo’s fingers.
This wasn’t a suggestion—it was clear she intended to drag him along if necessary. Ling Mo glanced at Sun Zeya, somewhat helpless.
Why doesn’t this woman understand the concept of personal boundaries…
Yet, the soldiers all acted as if they didn’t notice, and Tom’s gaze casually drifted past their clasped hands.
However, Ling Mo was indeed very curious about the identity of these people. If his guess was correct, it was possible that this group was a search and rescue team…
Even if they weren’t, they couldn’t be far off.
The information they had must be significantly more than what other survivors possessed…
