Chapter 240 – Sister is Here to Save You
“Someone must be trapped…”
Xia Na leaned in for a closer look and whispered softly.
At that moment, the dozen or so Zombies on the perimeter suddenly turned around. After sniffing the air a couple of times, they charged towards Ling Mo and his group’s hiding spot.
“We’ve been discovered!”
Ling Mo glanced at the two corpses behind him.
Black Silk’s teeth were too sharp; the two bodies had been torn to shreds, emitting a strong, bloody scent.
Just as Ling Mo was about to use his Psychic Tentacle to control the dozen Zombies, a shadow suddenly darted in from the side.
“Damn!”
Although he quickly used Psychic Interference, Ling Mo still felt his clothes being touched.
The attacker was incredibly fast. Even though they only managed to hook a finger onto his clothes, they immediately curled their finger and pulled Ling Mo up.
Nighttime indeed posed a significant limitation for Ling Mo. To focus on controlling the Zombies, he had to disable shared vision.
Unexpectedly, he got caught off guard at this critical moment and was successfully ambushed.
However, Ling Mo didn’t panic. As long as he wasn’t directly touched by the opponent, there was no real problem.
As the attacker tried to drag him up the wall, he calmly drew his Short Knife and stabbed backward.
“Thud!”
The blade sank into flesh, and the attacker immediately went limp, loosening their grip.
Ling Mo easily landed back on the ground but hadn’t expected his flashlight clipped to his waist to fall as well.
“Bang!”
A dull thud followed, indicating the flashlight had shattered completely.
“Damn it!”
The noise instantly attracted the attention of the dozen Zombies.
Fortunately, the first wave of Zombies had already been dealt with by Ye Lian and the three girls, along with Black Silk.
Ling Mo quickly took control of the second wave of Zombies, turning them around to block the additional Zombies drawn by the blood scent.
“Let’s go, this is endless…”
The horror of Zombies lies precisely in this: once you attract one, you never know how many more might follow.
Before leaving, Ye Lian dug out the Virus Gel from the attacker. Anyone who could successfully ambush Ling Mo was naturally an Advanced Zombie.
It seemed this Zombie had just recently leveled up…
However, Ling Mo noticed something peculiar: the Zombie’s face looked like it had been punched, with one eye visibly swollen.
Could it have been beaten up? Who did it? Was it a Survivor from that building?
Ling Mo found it hard to believe. Engaging in close combat with a Zombie was already impressive, but doing it barehanded…
Just as Ling Mo and his group were about to move towards the Alley, a pair of eyes watched them from a third-floor window of that building.
“Look, over twenty Zombies are heading their way.”
From the voice, it was a young woman speaking.
Another voice, sounding puzzled, came from behind her: “Could they be Survivors? No one would be out wandering at night.”
The woman spoke again, “Hard to say. Maybe they heard our signal flare and came over? Or they might be risking it to find food since we lured most of the Zombies here.”
“Who cares. Check if the Zombies are gathered enough, and let’s get started. If they’re still alive afterward, we’ll bring them back.”
A hand reached out to pull the curtain slightly, revealing two silhouettes—a man and a woman—in the moonlight.
The woman had a ponytail and wore a baseball cap, obscuring her features. Her voice, however, was distinctive, with a slightly magnetic quality, almost like a broadcaster’s.
“Ordinary Survivors wouldn’t stand a chance. That Senior Zombie that ran off earlier could wipe them out. Remember why we’re here. I’ll take this chance to rescue them; you handle things here.”
The tall man, evidently the other speaker, grunted in frustration and said, “Alright. Wang Heng, Li Fei, you go with Sun Zeya. But if they’re already done for, it’s just bad luck for them.”
“Honestly, your way of speaking is really unpleasant. I still don’t understand why you were chosen to come with us,” Sun Zeya adjusted the brim of her hat, revealing a pair of very bright eyes.
At this moment, Ling Mo and his group were fighting off Zombies while retreating. Black Silk had already led several Zombies around to another Alley.
Just as Ling Mo’s Tang Sword was about to take down a Zombie, a soft sound suddenly came, and the Zombie collapsed right in front of him.
“What happened?”
Ling Mo was momentarily stunned but quickly reacted, dodging to the side and looking ahead cautiously.
From the shadows, three dark gun barrels extended. Each soft pop was followed by a Zombie dropping dead.
As the Zombies were all taken down, three figures emerged from the corner.
Leading them was a petite young woman dressed in casual clothes, holding a gun.
The Submachine gun she wielded was different from the one Ling Mo had used before; it looked heavier. Despite her small frame, she handled it effortlessly.
The other two also carried guns, and judging by the sound, they were all equipped with silencers.
These silencers were quite hard to come by, making Ling Mo suspicious of their identities.
Military?
“Hey, you guys okay?” The woman ran up to Ling Mo’s group in one breath, glancing around at the surrounding bodies, “You guys did pretty well…”
“Captain Sun, look, that Senior Zombie!”
One of the others suddenly noticed the body of the Advanced Zombie and exclaimed in surprise.
The woman’s eyes immediately sharpened as she scanned the faces of Ling Mo and his group, finally resting her gaze on Ling Mo: “Looks like you didn’t really need our rescue after all.”
“Signal first.”
The woman seemed ready to say something more, but more Zombies were already being drawn to the scene.
One of them quickly put a finger to their lips and blew a whistle.
Ling Mo was still puzzled when he suddenly heard a gunshot from the direction of the building.
The Zombies, drawn by the scent of blood, immediately turned and rushed towards the building, crowding below and frantically pushing upwards. When Zombies go berserk, they look truly terrifying. Some even quickly climbed to the second floor by stepping on the heads of others.
However, a Zombie that had just climbed onto the balcony was shot in the head and fell back down.
“Almost there, light it up!”
“Bang!”
Another gunshot rang out, and a ring of fire immediately appeared around the building.
The Zombies were either instantly engulfed in flames or trapped inside the fire ring.
“Throw them down.”
The tall man shouted, and then curtains were pulled back, revealing dozens of figures at the windows. Lit beer bottles were thrown out one by one.
However, these bottles were clearly not filled with water but with oil.
“Improvised Molotov cocktails?”
Ling Mo watched in surprise as the beer bottles exploded among the Zombies. With the fire lines as barriers and the improvised Molotov cocktails, the Zombies were doomed to burn.
In reality, some of the Molotov cocktails didn’t explode, but the oil from them splashed onto the Zombies. Combined with the fire lines, the oil-covered Zombies were immediately set ablaze.
“What do you think? Pretty impressive, right?”
Sun Zeya, who seemed to have no intention of rushing over, stood excitedly next to Ling Mo.
When did she get so close to me…
Ling Mo was a bit startled but calmly said, “Playing with fire is dangerous.”
“We had no choice. This was the most suitable place nearby. Besides, there won’t be any problems. The exterior walls of this building are all concrete, with no flammable materials… The curtains on the lower floors have all been removed, and there are protective bars. It’s not that easy to set it on fire.”
The woman, touching her chin with a smile, watched the burning Zombies around the building, speaking as if it were a casual observation.
“Even if it does catch fire, it’s okay. We can retreat from the top floor.”
She turned to look at Ling Mo, showing a hint of interest, “Originally, I came to rescue you… but you seem quite strong. Did you kill this Senior Zombie?”
