Chapter 425 – What Kind of Power is This?!
“Help!”
The tall and thin figure ran wildly through the store, shouting desperately.
Glancing back out of the corner of his eye, he saw the two girls behind him. One moved at a leisurely pace, but her stance with the scythe exuded a menacing aura that sent chills down his spine.
The other girl seemed like a wisp of smoke, her movements erratic and unpredictable. One moment she seemed far away, and the next, she was right behind him, practically impossible to shake off.
“Weren’t there supposed to be only two superhumans? Who would believe they’re ordinary people? Quinn, you’ve set me up!”
Using the shelves for cover, the tall and thin figure barely managed to keep running, but it was only a matter of time before they caught up to him.
His continuous shouting attracted some zombies, which crawled in through the doors and windows, entering the store.
The clothing store, which wasn’t very large to begin with, quickly became overcrowded.
“Those guys aren’t coming to help me…” Several minutes passed with no sign of backup. The tall and thin figure realized he had likely been used as bait.
Anyone sent to the front lines was either the strongest vanguard of the team or just cannon fodder meant to draw fire.
As an ordinary survivor, the tall and thin figure was clearly the latter.
However, compared to the average person, he was still quite capable. Although he had no superpowers, he wasn’t entirely helpless.
“These zombies should be able to slow them down…”
Hearing the sound of breaking doors and windows, he immediately shut his mouth and slowed his pace, looking back.
With zombies entering, those two girls would surely have to deal with them. If he hid nearby, he might even get a chance to take advantage of the situation.
The best outcome would be for the girls and the zombies to destroy each other.
But his plan, while hopeful, was shattered the moment he turned around… The ideal scenario was beautiful, but reality almost made his eyes pop out of his head!
Those ferocious zombies, with claws sharp enough to tear through flesh, would usually pounce on any human they saw. But as they charged towards the two girls, it was as if they didn’t see them at all, passing right by them!
The tall and thin figure watched in dismay as the zombies, using both hands and feet, quickly lunged toward him. He stood there, dumbfounded, mouth agape.
“What… what the hell is going on?!”
His mind went blank in an instant.
Li Yalin and Xia Na had already stopped moving. The dozen or so zombies rushed past them, even keeping a certain distance, as if afraid to bump into them.
Seeing the tall and thin figure’s incredulous expression, Xia Na’s lips curled into a sinister smile. “Foolish human.”
“If you don’t seek death, you won’t die…”
Li Yalin pondered for a moment and found a phrase to describe the scene in front of her.
The leading zombie had already reached him, swinging a hand toward his head.
The sharp sound of the wind made the tall and thin figure snap back to reality, hastily blocking with a piece of rebar.
The zombie’s long nails screeched against the rebar, producing a piercing sound.
At the same time, he felt a numbness in his arm, causing him to involuntarily take two steps back.
Before he could steady himself, the zombie lunged again, and two more zombies had also reached him.
Struggling to fend off the attacks, his mind was a chaotic mess.
He watched helplessly as the two girls stood not far away, smiling as they watched him get surrounded by zombies.
“What the hell is going on…”
With a “bang,” he smashed a zombie’s head and used the momentum to leap upward, thrusting the rebar into the ceiling.
In that brief moment of suspension, he lifted both legs and jumped over the head of a zombie below, landing and sweeping the rebar back to send the zombie flying.
In this situation, his only option was to run!
Fixing his eyes on a window not far away, he was about to sprint towards it when a figure suddenly appeared in front of him.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
Li Yalin blocked his path, swinging her Snake Kiss towards his neck.
He barely managed to block it, but the zombies and Xia Na were already upon him.
Fending off the zombies was already a challenge. Each individual zombie might not be too strong, but in numbers, they could easily overwhelm even a skilled fighter…
Even worse, Li Yalin and Xia Na were now in front and behind him, cutting off his escape and trapping him in a circle of zombies.
“You must be cheating! How can humans cooperate with zombies?!”
The tall and thin figure was overwhelmed with shock and bewilderment.
“Didn’t you want to use the zombies to kill us? In fact, we haven’t done anything, have we? We’re not even attacking you right now.”
Xia Na sat on a counter with a mocking smile.
Indeed, neither she nor Li Yalin had made any further moves, simply ensuring he couldn’t escape…
“Let me out! Let me go!”
As his stamina quickly depleted, he could no longer fend them off, and terror made him shout for mercy.
“If it were us surrounded, would you let us go?”
Xia Na asked with a peculiar expression, “You were the ones who ambushed others, yet you don’t allow others to resist. You failed your ambush and now have the nerve to seek revenge. Human logic is really strange… You’re just reaping what you sowed…”
“Ah!”
A sudden scratch on his back slowed his movements.
In that moment, a zombie grabbed the arm holding the rebar. Before he could struggle, his arm was yanked off with a powerful force.
“Ahhhh!”
The tall and thin figure screamed in agony, reaching out in vain as more and more zombies swarmed him.
A spray of blood followed, accompanied by the sound of tearing flesh and chewing.
“Done.”
Xia Na jumped off the counter, dusting off her clothes.
Li Yalin showed a thoughtful expression and said, “Xia Na, you know a lot.”
“It’s not that much. I’ve retained the thoughts of a seventeen or eighteen-year-old girl… Besides, knowing too much isn’t necessarily a good thing. Humans are really complicated creatures. Sometimes it feels like they should be destroyed, but other times, it seems like they have something other creatures don’t…”
Xia Na tilted her head and said, “I wonder, where did the virus come from? What was its purpose? To create us?”
“Uh…”
Li Yalin slowly furrowed her brows, seeing Xia Na look at her seriously, seemingly waiting for an answer.
A minute later, she suddenly grabbed her head, “I don’t know, I don’t know anything!”
“Feel free to say whatever comes to mind. I’m curious about others’ opinions too…” Xia Na said expectantly.
“My head hurts…”
“Just think about it casually.”
“Ugh! Ling Mo!” Li Yalin stared at Xia Na for a moment, then suddenly turned and ran outside, shouting, “Xia Na is forcing me!”
“…No need to run away… and this isn’t even forcing! At most, it’s coercion! They’re not the same word!”
Xia Na watched Li Yalin run away swiftly, dumbfounded…
“The idiot’s shouting has stopped…”
Inside a building, a small man lifted a corner of the curtain and looked outside.
Within his field of vision, there was no one in sight.
The zombies that had been attracted had all entered the clothing store, and from his angle, he couldn’t see what was happening inside.
“Hmph, no idea if he’s dead or not.”
The small man’s sharp eyes slowly scanned the surroundings, then he stepped onto the windowsill and leaped down.
He landed lightly and silently, a boning knife appearing in his hand.
“Those people are held up by the zombies. Even if they survive, they’ll be exhausted. I just need to approach quietly and take them out when they’re off guard. If I do it right, I might even get a woman to relax with.”
As he rose, he moved to the corner of the wall, pulling up the hood of his sweatshirt with his other hand.
His movements were light and almost silent, like a rat stalking its prey.
His small eyes carried a hint of cruelty and cunning, and the hand holding the boning knife was tucked into the zipper of his sweatshirt, his entire figure hidden in the shadow of the corner.
