Apocalypse Summoning Frenzy Volume 1 Chapter 17

Facing the Sea of Corpses

Chapter 17 – Facing the Sea of Corpses

Volume 1: Apocalypse Beginning

Not far from the main entrance of the Police Station, inside an office building.

A dozen men and women stared in shock at the brutal fight below between the tide of Zombies and the Mutant Rats.

"Director, Old Wang… Old Wang didn't make it out."

A young man in police uniform spoke quietly to the tall middle-aged man standing at the center.

"Mm."

A faint reply, giving no hint of the Police Station director's mood. But from his tightly clenched fists and the hatred burning in his eyes as he looked at the Mutant Rats, it was clear he was on the verge of being consumed by rage and vengeance, like a volcano about to erupt.

"Find more people. Go again. These Zombies aren't enough." Director Wang said flatly.

"Director Wang, that's enough. Plenty have died just to attract the Zombies. And judging by what's happening below, these Zombies clearly can't beat the Mutant Rats. Instead, they're just helping them evolve nonstop." The Man in Suit stood up and spoke directly to Director Wang.

"Then you tell me, what should we do?" It was like a murmur from a dream, or perhaps talking to himself.

"We should leave now. There are too many Zombies here. It's not safe to stay any longer." The Man in Suit said bluntly.

Seeing Director Wang at the window clearly in a disturbed state, the Man in Suit paused briefly, then continued, "Director Wang, my condolences. I know-"

"You know shit, you know shit… All you know is how to make dirty money, what else do you know?"

Director Wang was instantly ignited by the man's words, angrily grabbing his collar and shouting.

Perhaps still not satisfied, Director Wang punched the Man in Suit squarely on the nose. The strength of a Class Holder sent the Man in Suit tumbling to the ground. Fortunately, he had also successfully changed class, so aside from a stream of blood and a clearly collapsed nose bridge, he wasn't seriously injured.

Seeing the two pillars of the group in conflict, the others fell silent, not daring to make a sound.

The Man in Suit pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and carefully wiped the blood from his nose. The movement seemed to brush against the wound, making him frown.

Glancing at Director Wang, who was clearly on the verge of collapse, the Man in Suit sighed softly.

"Director Wang, I know your daughter's death hit you hard. We trust you, which is why we supported your plan to attract Zombies and retake the Police Station. But everyone knows this plan was really just to satisfy your desire for revenge."

Looking at Director Wang slumped in the corner, a trace of disappointment and contempt flashed in the Man in Suit's eyes.

"Besides, you can see the situation yourself. This plan has only made the Mutant Rats stronger and cost us more people. It hasn't helped at all."

"Given all this, and with you clearly consumed by hatred, Director Wang, you're not fit to give any orders right now."

Director Wang didn't react at all, just kept clutching his hair and making incomprehensible whimpering sounds.

Ignoring Director Wang in the corner, the Man in Suit walked straight to the window.

"How many people do we still have outside attracting Zombies?" the Man in Suit asked.

A glamorous woman dressed like a secretary at the front of the group replied, "Boss, everyone who could make it back has already returned. The rest… I'm afraid…"

"Sigh, we've lost seven Class Holders." He shot an angry look at Director Wang curled up in the corner.

The Man in Suit addressed the remaining people directly, "This is all the manpower we have left. And a large part of them are ordinary people who haven't changed class yet. Our top priority is to find a place to rest. Where we are now is far too risky."

Before anyone around could react, the Man in Suit turned to Director Wang and said, "Director Wang, I know Your Daughter's death has hit you hard, but given our current situation, we need your strength. If you feel any guilt for the brothers who died because of your foolish plan, pull yourself together and lead us out of here."

"That's right. The plan I made was for the sake of avenging those rats," Director Wang's mood stabilized for a moment.

"Because of this foolish plan, we've lost even more people from our already small team. This was my mistake, and I apologize to all of you." Director Wang stood up again, straightening his back.

"I'll get you to a safe place, and then…" Director Wang turned to look at the Man in Suit. "After that, just listen to Boss Zhang. I'm no longer fit to lead you."

Ignoring the others' glances, Director Wang turned and headed downstairs.

"Wait, Director Wang, Boss Zhang, come here quick! There's someone in the Zombie horde!"

Before Director Wang could leave, the Young Policeman on lookout shouted, as if he'd seen something shocking.

Boss Zhang strode to the window in a single step. When he saw the scene below, his mouth fell open in astonishment.

After making up his mind, Wen Yu immediately hurried downstairs.

The fresh scent of blood and flesh attracted the Zombies. By the time Wen Yu descended, the entire office building was already crowded with Zombies. Clearly, the fresh meat made these Zombies overlook the danger of the man before them.

Looking at the staggering Zombies coming his way, Wen Yu quickly checked his own equipment: F-Rank Steel Blade, F-Rank Protective Suit, plus his own 3 points of physical stats.

"Alright, let's start the massacre."

The Little Soul Beast, which had been floating nearby, suddenly shot into Wen Yu's ear. Instantly, an immense power surged through him. Feeling the great strength in his body, Wen Yu gripped his Steel Blade and charged straight into the Zombie horde.

The once-small window was now surrounded by Boss Zhang and the others. Looking at the scene below the building, everyone couldn't help but open their mouths in shock.

"Is… is that even human?"

A middle-aged woman stammered. Her companions ignored her surprise, as the same thought echoed in all their minds: "Is that really a human?"

The Zombie tide below, which had originally been surging toward the Police Station's main entrance, was suddenly diverted. At least several hundred Zombies on the street frantically pounced on a single point. The dense mass of Zombies made it impossible to see what was happening inside. The spectators in the office building could only see, at the center of the large circle, Zombie heads continuously flying out, while countless more Zombies kept lunging in.

Originally, the spectators thought that within at most a few dozen seconds, the reckless human below would be torn apart by the ferocious Zombie tide. But as time went on, more and more headless corpses piled up at Wen Yu's feet, gradually forming a small hill. At last, the crowd finally caught a glimpse of Wen Yu.

The tattered jacket was already gone, replaced by a thin, tight-fitting suit. Thanks to the protection of the tight suit, the Zombies couldn't do much damage to Wen Yu's body. However, his exposed head obviously could not withstand such a massive onslaught; three huge bloody gashes were clearly etched across his face. Boss Zhang saw them-those were wounds left by a Mutated Level 1 Zombie, but before the Level 1 Zombie could do anything else, Wen Yu's sharp Steel Blade had already cut off its head.

Wen Yu's once-handsome face was stained with blood, becoming a bit ferocious, but the man downstairs was obviously extraordinarily strong. The pile of corpses instead became his barrier, and from this vantage point he kept beheading the Zombies climbing up. The ferocious force of his blade made everyone inside the office building shiver involuntarily.
