Chapter 33 – The Treasure Land Guardian
Volume 1: Apocalypse Beginning
Wen Yu felt a white light envelop the entire Arena, and then his wounds began to heal rapidly. Feeling the itchy sensation from several of his injuries, Wen Yu let out a comfortable sigh.
"Yo, not bad. Consider this Healing Light an extra reward for you-no need to thank me."
A childish voice rang out, and then Wen Yu saw a little brat appear before him.
With rosy cheeks and sparkling big eyes, the child looked only about three or four years old. His hair was tied into a little ponytail that stood straight up, and he wore a red bellyband, making Wen Yu's eye twitch involuntarily.
"So, you're the one who kept calling me Little One?" Wen Yu fought the urge to hit him. Being called Little One by such a pink-cheeked kid was even more infuriating than being called grandpa by a brat of this age.
"Little One, hold on, let's talk about your business later." The child seemed to notice Wen Yu's embarrassment and stabbed another knife into Wen Yu's heart.
Ignoring Wen Yu's frustrated expression, the child walked straight to the corpse of the Ancient Demon and reached for its forehead.
There was no resistance at all. The child's arm and the Ancient Demon's corpse seemed to exist in different spaces, as his hand passed right through. When he pulled it out, his fair little hand was clutching a pitch-black Magic Crystal, which he promptly tossed into his mouth and began crunching noisily.
"Hey, hey, hey, isn't that mine?" Wen Yu shouted the moment he saw the Magic Crystal. An Ancient Demon's Magic Crystal! In his previous life, he'd never even heard of Ancient Demons, and judging by this one's strength and the brat's introduction, even a level-one Ancient Demon Magic Crystal would be a real treasure.
"What do you mean yours or mine? Everything in the Treasure Land belongs to Yours Truly. Stand aside, I'm not done with my business yet."
The little brat glared at Wen Yu with his big eyes, shooting him a fierce look. Then, something even more jaw-dropping happened.
The brat lifted his bellyband, exposing himself, and a stream of murky water splashed directly onto the Ancient Demon's head. As he peed, he even made a hissing sound with his mouth.
"Ahhh." The brat let out a long sigh. "So refreshing. Yours Truly has wanted to do this for ages…"
Wen Yu felt sorry for the Ancient Demon. If it were him, he'd have jumped up from the dead by now.
"Mm, kid, you did well." The brat put his hands behind his back and strutted over to Wen Yu, tilting his little face up and waving his hand, "Crouch down so we can talk."
Wen Yu was helpless. Considering his ultimate reward was still in this brat's hands, he had no choice but to sit down obediently.
Seeing Wen Yu's action, the child nodded in satisfaction.
"Yours Truly is called Alkada, Treasure Land Guardian, Sequence Number 195. According to your human customs, just call me Da-Ge." Alkada stood on tiptoe and barely managed to pat Wen Yu's shoulder, speaking in a tone that suggested Wen Yu was getting a real bargain.
The urge to hit someone grew stronger in Wen Yu's heart. He forced a smile and swallowed the curse words that were about to come out.
"Hmm, since your attitude isn't bad, I'll allow you to ask me a few questions." Alkada nodded at Wen Yu with satisfaction.
"What exactly happened to this world? Why did Class Holders appear? And where did the Treasure Land and Demonic Creatures come from?"
Wen Yu went straight to the fundamental question.
"Hmm, that's a good question. Let me see." Alkada's big eyes spun around, and he pulled a massive book out of thin air. The writing on it was crooked and definitely not any known script from Earth.
"Let me take a look, just a moment." Alkada said to Wen Yu as he flipped through the huge book.
"Mm, found it, here it is." Alkada snapped the book shut in his hands and said seriously to Wen Yu, "Do you really want to know?"
Are you fucking kidding me? If I didn't want to know, why would I ask?
Seeing Wen Yu nod, Alkada put on a solemn face and said, "You don't have enough authority or strength. Change the topic."
"Ah." Wen Yu sighed quietly, completely disappointed in Da-Ge before him. This guy was absolutely just a brat.
"Do all Treasure Lands have Guardians?"
"Hahaha, now you're asking the right question." Alkada looked smug. "Only large or super Treasure Lands have Guardians. Little one, let me tell you, the Guardian Regulations clearly state that during duty, it's absolutely forbidden to meet survivors. If I didn't think highly of you, you'd never get to see a Treasure Land Guardian in your life. Aren't you going to thank Da-Ge for his generosity?"
"What are the Guardian Regulations?" Wen Yu keenly caught onto this new term.
"They're the rules and regulations that we Guardians have to follow."
"Who set the Guardian Regulations for you?"
"Of course, the almighty Ruler. Who else could it be?" Alkada looked at him with utter disdain.
"What is the Ruler? And what exactly are you Guardians?"
Wen Yu had already realized that Alkada was completely a child. Although he didn't know Alkada's actual age, more and more things were slipping out in his words.
Alkada's eyes darted around, and he once again pulled out that massive book, quickly flipping through it.
"For this question, you don't have enough authority or strength. Change the topic."
Wen Yu didn't want to deal with this brat anymore. He figured that whatever he wanted to ask, it would always be 'not enough authority or strength.'
"One more question-do you know where there are treasures?" Wen Yu stopped asking these deep questions and instead wanted to find some treasures for himself. The effect of the F-Rank Protective Jade just now had really shocked him.
"Treasures are inside Treasure Lands, obviously." Alkada looked at Wen Yu with contempt.
"Where else are there Treasure Lands? Or is there something that can detect Treasure Lands?"
Alkada froze on the spot, thought for a long time, and finally whispered to Wen Yu, "You don't have enough strength or authority."
Seeing the look on this little brat's face, Wen Yu suddenly felt comforted. "It's not that I don't have enough strength or authority-it's that you have no idea, right? Am I wrong, Da-Ge…"
Alkada's face immediately turned red, and he mumbled, "I've never left the Treasure Land in my whole life, how would I know?"
Seeing Alkada like this, Wen Yu knew there was no point in asking anything else, so he said directly, "This Treasure Land is about to close, isn't it?"
"Yes, yes, yes, you're really smart, little one." Alkada perked up as soon as he knew the answer to the question.
I've already cleared the final stage myself, do you really need to answer this crap? Even a rock would know.
"So, what about my reward?" Wen Yu didn't even have the energy to complain anymore.
"Mm." At the mention of rewards, Alkada suddenly became serious.
"First, your first reward: you were able to kill the Ancient Demon Clan, which is enough to prove your strength. So, I'm placing you in the Human Sequence, Sequence Number: 2."
"There's someone ahead of me?" Wen Yu was surprised by this answer. He was sure his strength was enough, but there was actually someone ahead of him. The one with Sequence Number 1 must be at least on par with him.
"Should be… yes, that's right, there's someone ahead of you." Alkada hesitated at first, then answered with certainty.
