Chapter 9 – Please, Quietly Wait Until Dark
Volume 2: Battlefield Between Two Worlds
In the Second Soul Realm, One-Eye's injuries had already completely healed; even the eye that had gone blind in childhood had grown back.
But two days without eating had left One-Eye unbearably hungry.
A streak of purple light suddenly flashed beside Wen Yu. Immediately afterward, a complex circular pattern flickered at incredible speed. A huge dog's head poked out from the purple light, sniffing hard at the long-missed scent of freedom. Then One-Eye's body-over three meters long-drilled out of the purple light.
Li Quan'an and the others were already stunned by the creature's sudden appearance. A dog-nothing more than a common mutt. But this dog had been reinforced by Demon Qi far too severely. Its massive frame, ferocious killing intent, and the saliva that dripped to the ground from time to time all made the surrounding Class Holders' hearts tighten.
"Mayor Li." Ignoring the frightened, panicked looks around him, as well as the screams of some Unclassed women and children, Wen Yu spoke directly to Li Quan'an.
"I promised Sun Ruixing I'd protect this Camp until dark today. If you take everyone away, then the whole Camp naturally won't exist anymore-and I'd be breaking my promise. That won't do." Wen Yu shook his head.
"I don't care whether what you just said about the Government and food is true or not. Before dark, no one in this Camp is allowed to leave."
Mayor Li first looked at One-Eye beside Wen Yu, then at his own men around him. The smile was gone from his face.
A Hothead was easy to deal with, but a Hothead with overwhelming strength was definitely a huge problem.
"What if I say no?" Mayor Li narrowed his eyes at Wen Yu. That Big Dog looked powerful, and the black little sphere on Wen Yu's shoulder looked mysterious, but there were more than a hundred Class Holders standing at his side.
Thinking of his own forces, Li Quan'an didn't even bother waiting for Wen Yu's reply. He directly ordered everyone in a loud voice: "Withdraw immediately. Now. Right now."
"Heh." Seeing Li Quan'an completely ignore him, Wen Yu couldn't help but laugh. The sound was soft, but it successfully made Li Quan'an turn his gaze to him.
"Mayor Li, right?" Wen Yu ignored Li Quan'an's subordinates who were carrying out the order and spoke straight to Li Quan'an.
"Power really is a good thing. No wonder so many people wanted to be officials before the Apocalypse."
As Wen Yu spoke slowly, Mayor Li's expression grew more and more grave. Strength far beyond that of ordinary Class Holders made Li Quan'an feel killing intent brewing on Wen Yu's body-growing stronger and stronger.
Even the crowd moving about nearby sensed something strange in the atmosphere. They gradually stopped, staring straight at Wen Yu.
"I already said why I'm here. Now I'll give a simple introduction. My name is Wen Yu. I came from Mudanjiang City."
Wen Yu paused slightly.
"Even though I've never been an official, I can roughly understand. Power is like a drug-once you get it, you never want to let go, and instead you want more. But just like a drug, power can make people lose themselves."
"Maybe you still don't really understand the situation right now. That's fine. You'll soon learn a fact."
Without saying anything further, Wen Yu directly patted One-Eye's shriveled belly. "Go on. Eat something. Don't kill the one in charge. Don't kill the Unclassed. As for the rest, pick whoever you like. Stop when I tell you to stop."
One-Eye was starving, but with Wen Yu right beside him, the power of the Soul Contract kept One-Eye from making a move just now. Only when Wen Yu gave the order did the killing intent in One-Eye's eyes surge, and he lunged out like a madman.
Like a gust of wind, the strength of a Level 2 Mutant Beast was, to the Survivors' current level, essentially an unsolvable existence.
One-Eye charged straight into the men Li Quan'an had brought with him, and then blood splattered everywhere.
"Murder! Murder!" Seeing One-Eye go on a killing spree, people nearby cried out in panic.
Everyone could tell this Big Dog obeyed Wen Yu, but no one expected Wen Yu to start killing without hesitation.
The Apocalypse had only just arrived, and many people's way of thinking had not yet turned around.
Li Quan'an stared blankly as One-Eye plunged into the crowd-there wasn't a single opponent who could last even one exchange. Those sharp fangs and keen claws meant that even a graze was an injury. Yet as the strongest Class Holder on his side, Li Quan'an could only watch helplessly. Even though he was a Hidden Class, even though he had 5 Points of Physical Attribute, in front of One-Eye, Li Quan'an absolutely wouldn't do any better than his underlings.
The crowd fell into chaos. The Unclassed wailed loudly, trying to get as far from One-Eye as possible. And among the Class Holders there was no shortage of the brave-some dared to swing their weapons at One-Eye, only to be bitten to death when One-Eye turned around.
"Stop." Seeing that in no time at all One-Eye had already taken down nearly twenty Class Holders, Wen Yu called out directly to him.
One-Eye glanced at Wen Yu, then turned his head to look at the trembling Class Holders in front of him, and immediately began tearing into the corpses on the ground with huge bites. This food was enough to fill One-Eye's stomach.
Li Quan'an looked in terror at the corpses covering the ground, then at One-Eye ripping and chewing on the dead bodies, and cold sweat rose uncontrollably.
The entire Camp trembled under One-Eye's power.
Wen Yu ignored the Survivors' monster-like stares and stood where he was, speaking blandly: "I'm very sorry. Because of my order, so many people died. Mm, I'll say sorry to those who died today because of me."
He voiced his apology to the dead in a flat tone, but that very tone made everyone around feel even more uneasy.
This man had absolutely none of the reverence for life that a normal person should have.
"Oh right-Mayor Li, do you understand now?"
"Understand what?" Mayor Li still hadn't snapped out of the bloodiness from just now; his reaction lagged by half a beat.
"Sigh." Wen Yu slowly walked up to Mayor Li. Seeing Mayor Li's trembling body, he let out a disappointed sigh. Though he was the Boss of a Settlement, this level of nerve was truly disappointing.
"This is the reality I wanted to make clear to you. Right now, in this Camp, the one who calls the shots isn't you-it's me.
"So you'd better think carefully about my suggestion.
"Please wait quietly until nightfall, alright?"
Watching Li Quan'an nod by reflex, Wen Yu turned and walked into the house.
"Oh, and if anyone doesn't behave, my dog eats people.
"Mm, and thank you, everyone-including those who are already dead. Thank you for helping me keep my promise. I don't have many strengths, but I do what I say."
