Chapter 10 – Sun Ruixing Returns to Camp

Volume 2: Battlefield Between Two Worlds

As Wen Yu walked into the Mansion, the entire courtyard became eerily quiet.

From time to time, the sound of sobbing drifted over, only to be tightly covered by the mouths of family and friends nearby, afraid of drawing the attention of One-Eye, who was devouring his meal in huge bites.

If Wen Yu was the murderer, then One-Eye was the weapon in the murderer's hand.

A bloodstained weapon is sometimes even more frightening than the killer himself.

"Mayor Li, what do we do now?" Hearing a trembling question from one of his men, Mayor Li's face turned even paler.

"Wait." He ground out the single word through clenched teeth. Mayor Li understood that he'd just been taught a lesson by a Kid: in this damn world, when faced with an individual whose personal strength far outstripped everyone else's, the power of a team was worth less than nothing.

Seeing Li Quan'an standing there dumbly in place-along with the people he'd brought, and even the elderly and children of the Settlement-not a single person dared to take a step, One-Eye was immediately disappointed. The food just now had filled his belly, but it provided far too little Evolution Energy; One-Eye couldn't feel his bodily strength increasing at all.

Just as One-Eye was considering whether to take advantage of Wen Yu's absence and eat a couple more people, a commotion suddenly came from outside.

"Mayor Li, Mayor Li, something happened!" A member of the Patrol Team ran in. The Patrol Team had heard the disturbance from One-Eye's killing earlier, but they'd assumed Mayor Li was using some "unconventional measures." Out of confidence in the hundreds of Class Holders inside the Camp, they hadn't come in to support him and had instead continued carrying out their duties.

When he saw the corpses all over the ground, the conspicuous One-Eye, and the crowd filling the courtyard who didn't dare move an inch, the patrolman couldn't quite understand what had happened.

"Speak." Li Quan'an didn't even have the mood to say a few extra words. Without turning his head, he spoke to the patrolman who was still stunned.

Swallowing hard, the patrolman stared at One-Eye in terror while saying to Li Quan'an, "The sentries at the outer perimeter saw Sun Ruixing driving a truck back. And there are a lot of Zombies and Mutant Beasts following behind."

Hearing that Sun Ruixing was back, Li Quan'an felt no ripples at all in his heart anymore. Looking at the patrolman's anxious face, anger flared up inside him.

"What's the use of telling me, what's the use? Can't you see what's going on right now? Tell it-tell it!" Li Quan'an roared at the patrolman, pointing at One-Eye as he crazily vented his resentment.

The patrolman looked blankly at Mayor Li, then at One-Eye, who stood to the side radiating killing intent. "Th-this… this…"

Fortunately, Wen Yu heard the commotion in the courtyard and came straight out of the room.

"What's going on?"

When Wen Yu appeared in everyone's line of sight, all the people in the courtyard immediately let out a sigh of relief. One-Eye's sense of oppression was too strong; with the weapon's master appearing at just the right moment, everyone present found their sense of security again.

Seeing this young man questioning him, and then seeing Li Quan'an keeping his mouth shut, the patrolman immediately understood the situation.

"Sun Ruixing drove a big truck back, but there are a lot of Zombies and Mutant Beasts following behind."

Hearing the patrolman's report, Wen Yu instead relaxed. "It's good that he's back. I can finally get out of this mess. One-Eye, come with me to take a look." As for the Zombies and Mutant Beasts behind them, Wen Yu didn't take them seriously.

Watching Wen Yu and One-Eye leave the courtyard, Li Quan'an gritted his teeth and shouted to his men, "Follow." Then he strode out first.

When Wen Yu reached the mouth of the narrow alley where the Stronghold was located, Sun Ruixing's truck swayed as it lurched closer. The truck was covered in blood and shredded flesh, and many parts of the body were even deformed. It wasn't hard to imagine just how fierce a battle this vehicle had gone through.

And the pack of Mutant Beast following behind the truck-its fastest member, a Mutant Horse-was already less than ten meters from it.

"Kill them all," Wen Yu ordered One-Eye directly.

Watching One-Eye charge forward and bite clean through the Mutant Horse's neck, Wen Yu took a few steps to the front of the big truck.

The deformed door was completely twisted, the window smeared with blood so thick it was impossible to see what was going on inside. Wen Yu clenched the handle and, with a hard pull, tore the entire door off.

Then he saw Sun Ruixing's blank, stunned face.

The sound of the door being ripped open jolted Sun Ruixing awake. He turned his head, staring at Wen Yu in a daze, and then tears streamed down in big drops.

"They're all dead, Wen Yu, all dead. I'm the only one who made it out. I was the one who sent them into the Mutant Beast's mouths with my own hands. I'm sorry-I've wronged them."

Seeing Sun Ruixing clutch his head with both hands and roar in agony, Wen Yu let out a heavy sigh. Faced with the middle-aged man's grief-stricken sobbing, Wen Yu simply couldn't find a single sentence to comfort him.

At this moment, One-Eye was already locked in a savage fight with the Mutant Beast that had caught up.

One-Eye's rate of evolution was terrifying. As things stood, in terms of combat power, One-Eye was absolutely among the very top.

But One-Eye's opponents weren't weak either. Although there was no Level 2 Mutant Beast among them, there were two Mutant Dog whose Physical Attribute had reached around 7 Points. These two Mutant Dog were already capable of inflicting serious wounds on One-Eye.

Most crucially, there were simply too many Mutant Beast. Even if only a dozen or so Mutant Creature among them could hurt One-Eye, the injuries on One-Eye's body still kept piling up. Before long, One-Eye's hide became a mangled mess of flesh and blood, and blood poured onto the ground.

The Life-And-Death Combat Ability activated.

One-Eye's fighting instinct was sheer madness. Relying on the combat boost brought by Fate Struggle, One-Eye didn't dodge or evade these Mutant Creature's attacks at all. He would pick a target, kill it, then switch to the next. As One-Eye fought, he only grew stronger, while the pursuing Mutant Beast died one after another. When the last Mutant Dog with a 7-Point Physical Attribute suddenly turned tail and ran, it was like a signal had been given-more and more Mutant Beast withdrew from the battlefield and fled for their lives into the distance.

After all, Mutant Beast had intelligence too. Without the lure of Blood Bone Incense, they had already regained their basic ability to judge.

Watching the battle in the distance, Wen Yu had no intention of stepping in to help. Instead, he kept observing One-Eye-or rather, observing Fate Struggle, this S-Rank Skill.

"When only lightly injured, the increase in combat power is very low-so low it can be ignored. With moderate injuries, the rise in Physical Attribute becomes quite obvious. As long as it doesn't affect combat capability, it should be able to maintain a threefold increase."

That was the rough data Wen Yu estimated, because by the time One-Eye dispersed this small Beast Tide, his Physical Attribute had already climbed to nearly three times what it had been at the start of the fight. Though One-Eye was drenched in blood, his vital areas had not suffered any major damage.
