Volume 2: Battlefield Between Two Worlds

Seeing the battle end, Wen Yu instead fell into thought.

"Fate Struggle is really powerful. What a pity about One-Eye's second Skill-it doesn't fit One-Eye's fighting style at all, and in battle it simply can't be put to use."

The moment Wen Yu had seen One-Eye's two Skills, he had already decided to wash away Strong Healing. The healing effect of the Soul Realm far surpassed Strong Healing; the only problem was that Strong Healing could be applied to Wen Yu himself, whereas Wen Yu couldn't benefit from the Soul Realm's healing effect.

"When I get another Mutant Beast with healing abilities, I'll wash this Skill off One-Eye." Wen Yu made his decision regarding One-Eye's Skill setup.

"Brother Wen Yu, your pet is terrifyingly strong." Li Quan'an's words interrupted Wen Yu's train of thought.

Just now, Li Quan'an and the others had stood behind Wen Yu and watched the entire time as One-Eye, all by himself-a single dog-solved this huge problem that was enough to threaten the Camp's safety. The resentment in Li Quan'an's heart had already been thrown to the back of his mind.

Someone who could, by his own strength, deal with nearly a hundred Mutant Creatures could also deal with nearly a hundred Class Holders under his command.

Wen Yu swept a calm glance at Li Quan'an and retorted directly, "Have you ever seen a pet this strong? This isn't a pet. This is a War Pet."

He turned around and ignored Li Quan'an, who still seemed to want to say something, and walked straight toward the big truck.

On the truck, Sun Ruixing's emotions had slowly settled down. Seeing Wen Yu coming over, Sun Ruixing forced a smile at him. "Thank you."

"Mm. No need to thank me. I told you-I'm just repaying the favor of those few meals."

Wen Yu hesitated for a moment, then spoke again. "After you left, the Camp ran into some trouble. One of your men, the one called Lin Hu, betrayed you. And just now he brought a group of people to try to swallow up your Camp. I stopped them. Now that you're back, it's time for me to go."

Wen Yu stated what had happened in the Camp outright. Sun Ruixing wore a blank expression, clearly unable to withstand the double blow of his teammates' deaths and the betrayal within the Camp.

As for Sun Ruixing, Wen Yu could be said to admire him somewhat-purely because of Sun Ruixing's character. He couldn't help offering a word of comfort. "Don't think too much about it, Sun-Ge. In this world, being able to make sure you don't die is already impressive. Don't turn other people's deaths into your own burden."

Without waiting for Sun Ruixing's response, Wen Yu walked straight toward One-Eye, who was gulping down food in the distance. Hualin Town was too close to Mudanjiang City. With Wen Yu unsure whether Simba would chase after them, he didn't dare stay here for long.

"Wait, Brother Wen Yu." Hearing Sun Ruixing call out, Wen Yu turned his head.

Sun Ruixing trembled as he climbed down from the truck, then hurried to Wen Yu's side. Staring intently into Wen Yu's eyes, he asked, "Teach this Old Brother. Consider it helping your brother out-tell me, what should I do now?"

Wen Yu really couldn't bear to see the near-breakdown look in Sun Ruixing's eyes. He sighed. "Then tell me-who are you asking that question for? Yourself, or the people left in your Camp?"

Sun Ruixing's expression immediately shifted. Just now, asking Wen Yu had been like a drowning man grabbing at the last straw, but Wen Yu's reply instead made Sun Ruixing think seriously.

"I'm asking for the people left in the Camp," Sun Ruixing said to Wen Yu with a solemn face.

"Two choices. First: you take them and keep doing things the way you used to. With your current strength, you probably won't survive more than a few months. Second: merge with Li Quan'an's Camp. Actually, this is the best option for this Camp at the moment, but…"

Wen Yu didn't say the rest, but the harm done to you was simply too great.

From Wen Yu's experience, he had long since seen that something was wrong with these Mutant Beasts, and that there was also something wrong with Sun Ruixing's ambush by Mutant Beasts. Wen Yu himself knew of at least three kinds of items that could serve to attract Mutated creatures, but even if he told Sun Ruixing about them, what use would that be?

"I understand." Seeing the struggle flash across Sun Ruixing's face and vanish, Wen Yu nodded to him and walked toward One-Eye.

One-Eye had already eaten his fill just now; eating again now was only for the Evolution Energy contained in Mutant Beast flesh and blood.

Hearing Wen Yu's footsteps, One-Eye lifted his head from the dead Mutant Dog, sized Wen Yu up with a glance, then lowered his head and continued eating heartily.

Wen Yu drew the Steel Blade hanging on his back, split open the head of the nearest Mutant Creature in one stroke, dug out the Magic Crystal inside, wiped the blood off it, and put it into the Spatial Ring.

There were at least dozens of Mutant Creatures all over the ground. Digging out their Magic Crystals counted as a decent haul-he'd get a few Level 2 Magic Crystals-and his Points had also jumped by nearly a thousand just now. This was the snowball effect: strong power in the early stage could ensure Wen Yu grew stronger at the fastest speed.

While Wen Yu was tallying up his gains, Sun Ruixing was talking with Li Quan'an in the distance.

"Mayor Li."

Sun Ruixing looked at the man who had plotted against his Camp. To say there wasn't even the slightest resentment in his heart would be impossible, but thinking of the many elderly and children in his Camp who had no combat ability, Sun Ruixing forcibly suppressed his aversion toward Li Quan'an and continued.

"I thought it over just now. There aren't many people left on our side who can fight. For the safety of those who remain, I want to bring my people to seek refuge with Mayor Li. I wonder if Mayor Li would be willing to take us in?"

Mayor Li had just been discussing with the people around him what to do next. Hearing Sun Ruixing's words, he couldn't help but feel pleasantly surprised.

"I'm honored that Brother Sun thinks so highly of me. If Brother Sun doesn't mind, just call me Li-Ge. My original purpose in coming was to get in touch with Brother Sun and see whether our two Camps could join forces to withstand this disaster. Now that Brother Sun has such awareness, this Old Brother naturally welcomes you all."

Li Quan'an had never expected things to take such a sudden turn. He'd thought this operation would be a complete waste, yet Sun Ruixing actually took the initiative, under these circumstances, to propose merging the Camps.

Li Quan'an had his own considerations as well: the larger the Camp and the more manpower it had, the faster it would develop; and as the Camp expanded, it would in turn drive the growth of his own strength.

If Wen Yu knew what Li Quan'an was thinking, he would definitely sneer at it. A Camp could indeed bring enormous benefits to its ruler, but only after it developed to a certain extent. That required time-and the Demon Disaster would not give humanity much time.

For Wen Yu, first of all he simply had no means or experience to manage a Camp; second, with the time and leisure it would take to manage one, he would have no idea how much stronger he'd already become. A Settlement, for the current Wen Yu, was nothing but a burden.

It had to be said that Li Quan'an and Wen Yu were considering things from different directions. As for who was right and who was wrong, everyone would naturally have their own view.
