Volume 2: Battlefield Between Two Worlds

"Li-Ge, look-there's a light up ahead!"

The first man to speak whispered to Li Quan'an.

Li Quan'an looked in the direction his subordinate was pointing. A faint glow flickered unsteadily like a tiny flame, but it was real.

"Fuck, this is haunted. Chaihe Town is full of Zombie-how could there still be a light on?"

Li Quan'an cursed under his breath, but that little flame ahead was, without a doubt, a beacon of hope for them.

Taking a deep breath, Li Quan'an said straight out, "Let's go. We'll take a look."

Forcing down the unease in his chest, Li Quan'an led his men forward, crouching low and moving carefully toward where the light was coming from.

As Li Quan'an and the others drew closer, they realized the scattered points of light had been set up with a lot of thought.

Only in a few limited spots could you catch that tiny bit of light; from other directions, blocked by buildings, you wouldn't notice it at all.

If Li Quan'an and his group hadn't memorized the position of the light's source, they never would have found this place.

It was a low Residential Building. The dilapidated structure, mottled walls, and pitch-black stairwell sent a chill through Li Quan'an and the others.

The light was coming from a Focusing Flashlight tied to a third-floor window.

"Should we go in and take a look?"

Li Quan'an cautiously discussed it with his only two remaining subordinates.

"Let's go. If we stay outside, we'll die sooner or later."

Even though they hadn't run into any Zombie in Chaihe Town, none of them were naive enough to believe there were no Zombie here.

Having made up his mind, Li Quan'an was just about to lead the way inside when a set of footsteps sounded from the stairwell. The three of them immediately tensed, uncertain and alarmed.

"Pat, pat."

As the sound came closer, Li Quan'an instead began to relax, because it was steady and rhythmic-human footsteps.

And humans, no matter what, were better than monsters.

That was what Li Quan'an thought at the moment…

As the footsteps drew nearer, a pale-faced young man in a police uniform came down the stairs. At a glance, he saw Li Quan'an and the other two standing in front of the building.

"Living people?" The young man raised an eyebrow and spoke.

His voice was a little hoarse, like someone who hadn't had water for days.

"Yes. Living people,"

Li Quan'an replied.

Seeing this person, Li Quan'an couldn't help feeling uneasy, as if what he faced wasn't a person, but some kind of strange thing.

With that, he turned around and walked straight into the pitch-black stairwell.

"What do we do?"

Li Quan'an's subordinate couldn't make up his mind.

Li Quan'an bit down hard. "What else can we do? Follow."

After speaking, he was the first to step into the stairwell.

Li Quan'an and the others filed into the corridor one after another.

Up front, the young man in the police uniform leading the way heard the footsteps behind him and a subtle smile crept onto the corner of his mouth.

"More… food!!"

The sky cleared.

Wen Yu was already awake.

But the sunlight that pierced through the drafty, broken walls dazzled him so much he couldn't open his eyes.

"One-Eye, One-Eye."

At Wen Yu's call, One-Eye answered with two "Woof, woof."

"Come. Stand over here."

"Woof woof?" "Boss, what are you going to do?"

One-Eye had questions, but still obediently came and stood by Wen Yu's side.

Feeling the glaring sunlight had been completely blocked by One-Eye's enormous body, Wen Yu stretched hard, patted One-Eye's somewhat shriveled belly, and said with a sigh,

"Let's go. We'll head out and take a look too. Today we're going to Chaihe Town to check out that Zombie King. Make some preparations-this could be a hard fight."

At the mention of battle, One-Eye's eyes immediately lit up.

He didn't care at all about the "hard fight" Wen Yu mentioned. If a fight wasn't brutal, how would you get good spoils and tasty food?

As Wen Yu pushed open the wooden door and walked out, he saw at a glance the Camp, still lifeless as ever, as well as Sun Ruixing outside, training and loosening up.

"Yo, Sun-Ge-nice habits."

Wen Yu walked up a couple of steps and teased Sun Ruixing.

A good night's rest had put Wen Yu in decent spirits.

Behind him, One-Eye's huge body squeezed out of the wooden doorway with difficulty.

Crack.

That was the sound of the doorframe being crushed.

Seeing a Patrol Team member not far away with a blank look on his face, Wen Yu spoke up directly.

"You-yes, you. Help me replace the doorframe."

After that brief instruction, Wen Yu waved to Sun Ruixing. "Let's go. We'll go see Zang Pengfei, ask for a couple of guides while we're at it, and then head to Chaihe Town to see what's going on."

Sun Ruixing hesitated, then said to Wen Yu, "You go ahead. I'll wait for you at the Camp entrance. I want to go check on Bai Xiao'an."

"Mm."

An answer Wen Yu expected. He didn't pay Sun Ruixing any more attention, and took One-Eye straight toward Zang Pengfei's wooden cabin.

One-Eye followed step by step behind him.

Like some young noble from ancient times, taking a vicious dog out on the street.

In less than ten minutes, Wen Yu had already walked out of Zang Pengfei's cabin.

Behind him was Li Dalong, nodding and bowing.

Wen Yu had gotten Li Dalong from Zang Pengfei.

Sun Ruixing had already been waiting there for some time.

"No one? Or did they chase you out?"

"Bai Xiao'an isn't there, but I saw Bai Feifei. That guy Sun Aotian took Bai Xiao'an out first thing in the morning."

"Mm. Let's go too. We'll talk about the specific plan and route as we walk."
