Chapter 9 – I Am Sequence ②
Volume 3: Rising Winds and Clouds
By the time Wen Yu finished cleaning himself up and stood before the mirror, he looked much more refreshed.
Wen Yu wasn't exceptionally handsome, but he certainly wasn't bad-looking either.
Combined with the physical transformations brought about by his immense power, his entire body resembled a precision-engineered machine.
Coupled with the cold, sharp aura forged through his violent combat experiences, his overall presence was significantly enhanced.
His well-defined muscles rippled with every simple movement.
One such simple movement involved giving One-Eye a scrub-down on the floor.
Though, he was doing it with his foot.
"Woof."
"Boss, I was wrong."
"So you know you messed up?"
"Woof."
"I know."
"What did Boss teach you?"
"Woof woof."
"When you make a mistake, own up to it; when you're getting beaten, stand up straight!"
Wen Yu nodded, then gave One-Eye a strange, eerie smile.
"In that case, accept your punishment."
When Wen Yu walked out of the room wearing a long black trench coat, Xing came stumbling out behind him.
He was doubled over with laughter.
Accompanied by Xing's wheezing laughter, One-Eye walked out with a look of utter grievance.
He was dressed in a pink pet outfit, with a large red flower pinned to his head.
Well, with this outfit, One-Eye at least qualified as a cute pet.
Seeing the pitiful look in One-Eye's eyes, Wen Yu crouched down and patted the dog's head.
"One day. You have to wear it for one whole day."
One-Eye's head slumped, and he went silent instantly.
"Don't worry, it's very cute. Boss personally picked this out for you. It'll definitely win over the hearts of the ladies!"
Hearing Wen Yu's confident tone, One-Eye's eyes suddenly lit up.
"Woof woof."
"Really, Boss?"
"Really. You look very sharp."
"Haven't you seen pet dogs wearing clothes before? It looks great. Besides, you just had a bath, you should change into new clothes. Didn't Boss just change into something new too?"
"Woof woof."
"It still feels a bit weird."
Wen Yu stood up, but the corners of his eyes couldn't stop twitching.
It was obvious that Wen Yu was also struggling to hold back his laughter.
When Wen Yu found Wang Zhigang, the man was in his office organizing documents.
One shouldn't assume that the Apocalypse meant an end to paperwork. At least in the current environment, the living space for humanity was not small. While they couldn't be called the absolute Rulers of the planet, they were definitely the most powerful race!
As the big boss of Central City, Wang Zhigang had a massive amount of work to handle.
When he saw Wen Yu enter the office, Wang Zhigang nodded to him, then looked curiously at One-Eye in Wen Yu's arms.
"This is…"
"Oh, my War Pet."
Wang Zhigang's eyes couldn't help but twitch a couple of times.
This was a Level 4 War Pet. What exactly are you trying to achieve by dressing it up like that?
A Level 4 War Pet! If anyone else had one, they'd be treating it like a venerable ancestor!
"Does he look good?"
Hearing Wen Yu's slightly amused question, Wang Zhigang nodded immediately.
"How is it? How is it? What did the big boss say?"
"Woof woof!"
"Boss is mighty and domineering!"
Upon hearing Wang Zhigang's response, One-Eye immediately became smug. He wriggled out of Wen Yu's arms and began bouncing around the room.
Before One-Eye could show off for more than a few seconds, Wen Yu grabbed him by the tail.
"Alright, alright. Business first. After that, you can do whatever you want."
At Wen Yu's words, One-Eye immediately settled down.
Daily antics were one thing, but when it came to serious business, it was no laughing matter.
"Now, I want to speak with the Military."
Hearing this, Wang Zhigang stood up at once.
"Let's go. I'll take you to the Communications Room."
…
In the early stages of the Apocalypse, things like electricity and communications were naturally mostly destroyed by Zombies or Mutant Beasts.
However, once humanity reacted, everything quickly returned to normal!
After all, due to the existence of the Exchange Pillars, humanity's evolution speed was not inferior to that of the Mutant Beasts. The reason there were fewer high-end combatants among humans was partly due to the Divine Beast Species, but also because the number of Mutant Beasts far exceeded that of humans!
When the Military passed through Mudanjiang City, their technicians had already restored the communication capabilities between Mudanjiang City and Military Headquarters!
"Ordinary line communications can no longer be used. What the Military uses now is Satellite Communication. According to the technicians, when the Apocalypse first began, the invasion of Demon Qi caused changes in the Earth's magnetic field, rendering the original satellites useless. The satellites currently used for communication are a Modified Version created by the Military's technical staff."
Saying this, Wang Zhigang pushed open the door to the Communications Room.
Then, he muttered softly to himself.
"God knows what Demon Qi actually is."
A thought flashed through Wen Yu's mind.
"It seems the Military High Command has suppressed information regarding Demon Qi and Demonic Creatures."
He then looked at the dizzying array of instruments inside the Communications Room.
"The Military's foundation, huh?"
Clearly, the Military had not abandoned the power of technology just because the evolution system had appeared.
After all, technology was the fundamental basis for humanity's rule over the Earth!
…
"Sir!"
A staff member inside wearing a uniform saw Wang Zhigang enter and immediately stood at attention, giving him a respectful military salute.
Seeing the slight smile in Wen Yu's eyes, Wang Zhigang turned back to explain.
"As the commander of Central City, I naturally hold a position within the Military. My current rank is Captain."
"Captain Wang!"
Wen Yu playfully gave Wang Zhigang a non-standard military salute.
"Give it a rest. Do you think I want this? Being restricted everywhere for the sake of a rank… if I couldn't bear to leave my old comrades behind, I would have been wandering the world like you long ago."
"Alright, jokes aside. Connect the line," Wang Zhigang said to the operator.
The operator looked at Wang Zhigang and Wen Yu with a face full of hesitation.
"Um, Captain Xiao isn't here. I don't have the authority to initiate communication on my own…"
When Wen Yu killed the Military Uniform Man, Wang Zhigang had suppressed the news.
"He's dead. I am initiating the communication now; it falls under Emergency Regulations."
"Yes, sir!"
Hearing Wang Zhigang's words, the operator didn't waste time with useless chatter. He turned around and immediately began working at the console.
This was the mark of a true soldier-obedient and efficient.
Furthermore, from a certain perspective, it was clear that the Military Uniform Man had not been well-liked by others.
Accompanied by a burst of static, the large screen mounted on the wall of the Communications Room soon lit up.
Then, a Woman in Military Uniform, appearing to be in her late twenties, appeared on the screen.
Her neat uniform and serious, smileless expression caused her naturally aesthetic appearance to drop several levels in charm.
Behind the Woman in Military Uniform, one could clearly see the interior of the Military's massive communications hub, filled with numerous busy personnel.
"Heilongjiang Province, Mudanjiang City Settlement, hello. I am from the Military Communications Department, 13th Company, 7th Squad, internal ID 115896, in charge of this call with the Mudanjiang City Settlement. May I ask what the matter is?"
Hearing the woman's words on the screen, Wen Yu gently nudged the operator sitting in front of the screen and took the seat himself.
With Pink One-Eye cradled in his arms and Xing perched on his head, he quietly observed the operator at Military Headquarters through the screen, then spoke.
"I am Sequence 2."
