Chapter 8 – Actually, My Dog Did It
Volume 3: Rising Winds and Clouds
Wang Zhigang remained silent for a moment before finally speaking.
"Younger Brother, killing him might cause trouble. How about this: you head out of the city and hide for a while. Once I've settled this matter for you, you can come back!"
This was the best solution Wang Zhigang could think of.
After all, according to the Military Uniform Man himself, he supposedly had connections with the higher-ups. At the same time, he was a leader personally appointed by the Military to establish contact between Central City and the Military Headquarters!
However, the things Wang Zhigang considered were different from Wen Yu's perspective.
Or rather, the gap between Wang Zhigang's strength and Wen Yu's was too vast for their thoughts to align.
Seeing the urgency in Wang Zhigang's eyes, Wen Yu shook his head.
"There's no need. You can contact the Military Headquarters, right?"
"I can, but…"
Before Wang Zhigang could finish, Wen Yu patted him on the shoulder.
"I'll talk to them. It just so happens I want to discuss some matters with them anyway. As for that idiot just now, believe me, it's not an issue!"
"They should be thanking me, honestly. I'm only saying this because I'm in a good mood today! Otherwise, the one in trouble wouldn't be me-it would be the Military!"
Without waiting for Wang Zhigang to react, Wen Yu waved toward the Kid Army standing not far away.
"Children, let's go. I'm taking you into the city."
Although Central City didn't have things like permanent residence permits before, there was a saying from before the Apocalypse that held true:
It's not what you know, but who you know!
Wang Zhigang viewed Wen Yu as a friend and a benefactor. When Wen Yu requested Permanent Residence Permits for the group of children, Wang Zhigang naturally agreed.
At the same time, Wen Yu learned something from Wang Zhigang.
The concept of an Entry Fee had actually been proposed by the Military Uniform Man himself.
Wang Zhigang's original intention was to keep Central City completely open, making it a safe haven for all Survivors in Mudanjiang City.
Unfortunately, Wang Zhigang's idea had met with universal opposition.
As for now, even though the Military Uniform Man was dead, the rules had already been established-and Wang Zhigang himself was a beneficiary!
At this point, Wang Zhigang would no longer voice any objections regarding the Entry Fee.
The benefits brought by power truly did corrupt the human heart over time.
Wen Yu was currently standing beside Zheng Ye, patting the boy's head.
"Now that I've brought you here, you'll have to rely on yourselves from now on."
Wen Yu felt an indescribable emotion toward this Kid Army.
In his previous life, Wen Yu hadn't thought much about such things because he was fighting a constant battle against the Grim Reaper every single moment!
But in this life, especially after returning from Chaihe Town, Wen Yu increasingly felt that this world was simply too fucked up.
At the very least, the children were not at fault. They shouldn't have to bear pressures that even adults couldn't handle.
With a soft sigh, Wen Yu placed Xing-who was on his head-beside the now-shrunken One-Eye. He then took several Level 2 Magic Crystals out of his Spatial Ring.
"Take these. Work hard to become stronger. Since you chose to be the leader of these children, you must shoulder the corresponding responsibility. This is all the help I can give you."
"Remember one thing! To stay alive, you ultimately have to rely on yourself!"
Hearing Wen Yu's words, Zheng Ye's eyes grew misty.
After a long pause, Zheng Ye took the Magic Crystals from Wen Yu's hand and gave him a firm nod.
"Thank you. Thank you, Uncle! You're a good person!"
Wen Yu straightened his back and shook his head at Zheng Ye.
"I'm not a good person, really. But I'm certain that you all will become good people. Come on, keep it up!"
As Wen Yu spoke, he extended his clenched right fist.
Seeing this, Zheng Ye wiped away the tears about to fall with his filthy sleeve and extended his right fist as well.
One large, one small-the two fists slowly bumped together.
Then, Wen Yu turned and walked to Wang Zhigang's side, waving a hand at Zheng Ye.
"Remember, my name is Wen Yu. If we meet again in the future, you have to call me Big Brother Wen Yu! It's Big Brother!"
"Understood, Uncle!"
"Thank you, Uncle!"
"Goodbye, Uncle!"
The children following Zhang Wen shouted back at Wen Yu as they walked further away.
"Heh."
Wen Yu's mouth couldn't help but twitch.
Turning his head, he looked at the stiflingly amused Wang Zhigang and asked very seriously, "Do I really look that old?"
Wang Zhigang gave Wen Yu a serious once-over and said solemnly, "To be honest, you should shave, take a bath, and change your clothes!"
…
In front of a mirror, Wen Yu carefully examined his appearance.
After a long silence, he shook his head.
"Uncle Wen Yu, huh? Heh heh!"
What a fitting image!
For a while now, he hadn't had a mirror, and his environment hadn't allowed him to maintain his personal hygiene. At most, he had washed his face and brushed his teeth. When he finally saw a mirror for the first time, Wen Yu was genuinely shocked by his own appearance!
A perfectly good Sequence 2 had somehow turned into a beggar!
When Wang Zhigang had asked Wen Yu whether he wanted to speak with the Military Department first or tidy up his personal image, Wen Yu had chosen to talk first!
Then Wang Zhigang had pulled out a mirror…
And so, Wen Yu ended up in the bathroom.
Noise kept drifting in from outside. Through Wen Yu's perception, he could tell that One-Eye and Xing were rolling around on the soft, large bed.
Without a doubt, by the time Wen Yu finished cleaning himself up, the outside would be a total wreck!
"Xing, Xing, come here! Let me show you something fun!"
One-Eye's barking voice drifted in, followed by a burst of sound from the television in the living room.
Power supply had basically been restored in Central City. Electricity might be in short supply, but given Wen Yu's status, things like power shouldn't be a concern!
Wang Zhigang would treat Wen Yu with the very best they had.
Like the 105-inch television in the living room!
However, what the hell were those "Yamete" sounds coming from outside?
"Whoa…"
That was Xing's voice, sounding awestruck.
"Woof, woof."
"Great, isn't it? Humans really know how to have fun… Tsk tsk, look at that position…"
"By the way, are you hard?"
"Dog-Ge, you're disgusting. We're not even the same species, yet you're watching this so happily…"
"Woof, woof."
"I'm just asking if you're hard!"
Xing was male; Wen Yu and One-Eye had known this since they were in the Mountain Forest. Thus, One-Eye felt he had found a good friend and had made it his grand ambition to raise Xing into a playboy.
He claimed he was contributing to the great diversity of species on Earth!
However, this was clearly a case of forced, violent upbringing. Xing was still just a child!
So, Wen Yu charged out of the bathroom. Grabbing One-Eye by the scruff of his neck with one hand and lifting Xing by the tail with the other, he headed straight back toward the bathroom.
Just then, the room's main door opened, and Wang Zhigang walked right in.
"By the way, Brother Wen Yu, what do you want for dinner-"
Before he could finish, Wang Zhigang glanced at the 105-inch TV, then at the completely naked Wen Yu. His old face immediately flushed with embarrassment.
"Cough, cough. Sorry, wrong room! Oh, and the door lock is right here."
It wasn't until the sound of the door closing echoed that Wen Yu finally reacted!
Immediately after, fine goosebumps began to break out all over Wen Yu's skin.
"Can I just say my dog did it?"
A whisper-like voice escaped Wen Yu's mouth. The sense of sorrow in his words made One-Eye shudder.
Unfortunately, in this vast room, there was no one else besides Xing and One-Eye…
