Chapter 45 – Well, Good Luck!
Volume 3
The moment Wen Yu saw that figure from behind, countless thoughts ran through his mind…
It was hard to explain what kind of feeling it was.
Maybe there was guilt. Maybe there was a little shame. But more than anything, it was the awkwardness of not knowing how to face Sun Ruixing's daughter.
Then Sun Xuewei turned around and looked at Wen Yu.
"Who are you?"
Her voice was clear and crisp, but Wen Yu had no idea how to answer.
He was silent for a long while. In the end, it was the woman who had led him here who spoke up from behind him.
"He said your father entrusted him to come find you. This is what he gave me just now outside the door."
As she spoke, the woman took out the pendant Sun Ruixing had given Wen Yu.
The instant she saw the pendant, Sun Xuewei became visibly agitated.
"This… this is…"
Watching Sun Xuewei take the pendant with trembling hands, tears streaming down her face, unable to even form a complete sentence, Wen Yu stayed silent for a while before finally speaking first.
"This was given to me by your father, Sun Ruixing."
Sun Xuewei covered her mouth and nose, sobbing for a long time before she managed to calm herself slightly and force out a question.
"Then… he…"
Wen Yu simply stood where he was without saying a word.
That expression, that response, already explained far too much.
…
Wen Yu let out a soft sigh. He looked at Sun Xuewei, who was on the verge of breaking down, then at the women around her who were constantly trying to comfort her, and said quietly, "Could I trouble you all to step out for a moment? There are some things I need to discuss with her."
At the sound of Wen Yu's voice, the women around them immediately shot him a glare, but none of them made any other move.
In their eyes, Wen Yu was no Sequence 2. At best, he was just a harbinger of bad news who had come bearing a death notice.
Only after Sun Xuewei managed to speak did the women finally turn and leave the room.
When only the two of them remained, Sun Xuewei wiped away her tears and asked again, "What about my mom?"
"Sun told me your mother didn't make it through the first wave of Zombie transformation."
After hearing that, Sun Xuewei showed no particular expression. She simply stared blankly at Wen Yu.
Wen Yu sighed, found himself a chair, and sat down. Looking into Sun Xuewei's eyes, he said seriously, "Before your father died, he asked me to protect you. A while ago, I asked people from the Military to come find you, but I heard you weren't willing to join the Military. Now I'd like to understand what you're thinking."
Sun Xuewei nodded. Two heavy, sniffling breaths came from her nose.
"I… I…"
After saying "I" twice in a row, Sun Xuewei realized her emotions were still too out of control. She shook her head directly.
Wen Yu nodded, then continued, "So, you want to stay here?"
Sun Xuewei nodded.
"But this place isn't exactly safe, and they're very weak."
Sun Xuewei nodded again, and at last she spoke.
"But they're the only people I know who are left."
"Mm. I understand."
Wen Yu stood up at once and paced back and forth through the room.
After a long while, he finally walked up to Sun Xuewei and took two items directly out of his Spatial Ring.
A damaged shield, and a Scroll.
Then Wen Yu said, "This is the weapon your father left behind while he was alive, and this is the Skill he entrusted me to give you. These two things are your father's relics. Now I'm handing them over to you."
Sun Xuewei looked at Wen Yu for a moment, then first took the shield from his hands. She gently stroked the damaged parts on its surface before asking, "How did my father die…?"
"He was a Hero. He died in… a war."
Wen Yu did not tell her the truth. But while those details might have mattered greatly to Wen Yu, they did not matter to Sun Xuewei.
If Sun were watching from the afterlife, he probably would not have wanted Wen Yu to tell Sun Xuewei the truth either.
Sun Xuewei nodded. After a long silence, she carefully placed the shield by the bed, then pushed back the Scroll Wen Yu had offered her.
"Consider this your payment for the work you did. Thank you, truly, for coming all the way to Yanjing to find me."
Hearing Sun Xuewei's words, Wen Yu actually laughed.
"Honestly, you and your father even talk the same way. Tsk, tsk."
At Wen Yu's words, some of the grief weighing on Sun Xuewei's heart eased.
"You can look at it first, then decide whether you want it or not."
Wen Yu held the Scroll out to her once again.
This time, Sun Xuewei hesitated for a moment before finally taking the Scroll.
Then her pupils abruptly contracted.
Everlasting Shimmer Blue Star (SSS-Rank, active Skill): Upon activation, summon Shimmer Blue Star Heroic Spirit to fight for you. The number and quality of the summoned Heroic Spirits depend on the Host's level and remaining stamina! This Skill was created by the former Shimmer Blue Star Sequence 1 with world-shaking power. Within it are fused the heroic souls of those who died in battle on Shimmer Blue Star. When the Host reaches level ten, the Shimmer Blue Star Sequence 1 dwelling within this ability will be awakened.
Wen Yu, of course, had already known this Skill's Attribute for a long time, but Sun Xuewei had not.
To be precise, Sun Xuewei had never seen a Skill of such high quality before.
"This is…"
Sun Xuewei looked at Wen Yu's face in shock and asked hesitantly.
"I told you. It's the keepsake your father left behind before he died."
Seeing the certainty in Wen Yu's eyes and hearing it in his tone, Sun Xuewei fell silent for a long while. In the end, she still held the Scroll back out to Wen Yu.
"Thank you. But this Skill, I…"
Wen Yu shook his head and took two steps back, making no move to accept the Scroll.
"Your father gave it to you. It's also a father's love for his daughter. I hope you can put it to good use. Let's leave this matter at that and talk about Sun's other last wish."
Sun Xuewei looked at Wen Yu, then at the Scroll in her hand. After hesitating for a while, she finally placed the Scroll on the bedside table.
Only then did Wen Yu slowly speak.
"Sun asked me to take care of you. My original plan was to arrange a clerical job for you with the Military. At the very least, it wouldn't be dangerous. But since you're not planning to leave now, I'll ask you one more time: will you come with me or not?"
Hearing Wen Yu's question, Sun Xuewei shook her head without hesitation.
"Then how about we settle it like this? I can promise you two things! No matter what they are, I'll do everything in my power to help you accomplish them!"
Two things, to repay his debts. One from the Treasure Land Trial, and one from the Battlefield Between Two World…
Sun Xuewei looked at Wen Yu's serious eyes. Perhaps sensing how insistent he was, she finally nodded.
Seeing her response, Wen Yu smiled and said directly, "If you ever need anything, if you run into trouble, or if you change your mind, you can go straight to the military district and look for Lin Kuangliu. He's the Military's current Lord War God. He'll help you deal with certain matters. He can also get in touch with me."
The moment she heard the words "War God," Sun Xuewei abruptly raised her head in surprise.
Clearly, anyone from the Yanjing Settlement had heard of the War God's reputation.
"I'll give you his contact information in a moment. And from this, you should be able to tell that my influence isn't exactly small. So, are you really not going to consider taking an easy post with the Military?"
Borrowing Kuangliu's name, Wen Yu blatantly wrapped himself in another man's prestige, and he did so without the slightest hint of shame.
Unfortunately, Sun Xuewei answered him with firm resolve.
"I'm doing very well here. It's very safe. More importantly, I have many, many companions here. I can't leave them, and they can't leave me."
Hearing Sun Xuewei's answer, Wen Yu simply nodded.
"Remember this: I owe you two things! Their value will be very, very great!"
"In that case, good luck."
With that, Wen Yu turned and left the room, heading downstairs.
