When Wen Yu reached the ground floor, Kuangliu was talking about something with Xiao Xue. Judging by how rather intimate they seemed, their relationship was clearly not just that of superior and subordinate.

But what did any of that have to do with Wen Yu? It wasn't as if he was some gossip.

After briefly explaining the situation to Kuangliu, Wen Yu successfully got Kuangliu's contact information.

This contact method was similar to a cell phone number from before the Apocalypse. Of course, it was nowhere near as powerful as a smartphone in terms of functions, but calls and text messages worked normally enough.

According to Kuangliu, the communication range of these things was limited to the Yanjing Settlement, because the signal source only covered that large an area.

Of course, talking to Wen Yu about signal sources and all that nonsense was basically pointless.

Wen Yu asked Kuangliu for another communicator, then handed it directly to the woman who had "escorted" him out from behind.

"Give this to Sun Xuewei. Tell her to remember what I said."

Although the woman had some doubts about the two men's identities, all they were doing was delivering something, and they had not done anything else. So in the end, she nodded and agreed to Wen Yu's request.

Wen Yu turned and glanced at Sun Xuewei, who had poked her head out of the upstairs window. He simply waved, then turned and walked toward the Military vehicle.

Sitting in the passenger seat, Wen Yu rubbed hard at his temple, then let out a heavy sigh.

"What's wrong?"

Wen Yu shook his head.

"If you ask me, you could have just forced her to come out with you."

Wen Yu stared at Kuangliu in shock. Clearly, he found it unbelievable that this guy could offer such a brain-dead suggestion.

Kuangliu shrugged.

"Violence isn't the best way to solve a problem, but it's definitely the fastest. And it doesn't take any brainpower."

"That is way too damn correct."

Wen Yu immediately fired back with a helpless jab.

But was that really possible? If this had been a mission, Wen Yu would have done exactly that without a second word. Unfortunately, this was not a mission. This was a promise.

It was a promise Wen Yu had made to the first teammate he had ever truly acknowledged.

"Where to next?"

Wen Yu decided to stop thinking about it and turned his head to ask directly.

"Actually, I don't know either…"

Hearing Kuangliu's answer, Wen Yu was instantly speechless.

This guy had looked cold and aloof to the extreme during the video call. But once Wen Yu actually interacted with him, Kuangliu had none of the bearing of someone in a high position from the video at all.

"Doesn't the Military have any orders? I already reported your arrival to Commander Lin. He just told me to handle it as I saw fit, so I'll just handle it as I see fit."

Looking at Kuangliu's face, which seemed to say exactly that-I'll handle it as I see fit-Wen Yu helplessly curled up in his seat and stared out at the somewhat busy street scene along the roadside.

Wen Yu's main purpose in coming to Yanjing had already been accomplished. As for what remained, it was to hurry up and improve his strength.

"By the way, do you know of any intel on large-scale Mutant Beast or Zombie activity currently within Huaxia?"

Wen Yu decided there was no need to pay attention to this guy. Ignoring One-Eye's resistance in his arms, he continued teasing One-Eye on his own.

After meeting Sun Xuewei, Kuangliu had driven all the way toward the inner city. Then, at Xiao Xue's suggestion, Kuangliu decided to first take Wen Yu out for a good meal, then get a proper night's rest, and wait until tomorrow to go see Commander Lin.

"Hey, hey, could you give me some kind of reaction?"

Kuangliu looked wounded as he spoke to Wen Yu.

"Of course, if you join the Military, none of that would be difficult for you to access!"

Wen Yu discovered another one of Kuangliu's strengths: the speed at which his expression changed was extremely fast. Just a moment ago, Kuangliu had looked all mysterious, but in the blink of an eye, he had turned serious.

Wen Yu shook his head.

"Let's talk about that later. Actually, it's not that the idea is impossible. It's just that personally, I'm more inclined toward a cooperative relationship."

Wen Yu would choose whichever option benefited him more. That was how he saw it.

Hearing Wen Yu's answer, Kuangliu nodded first, then picked up a huge mouthful of food.

"Why aren't you eating? The kitchen here used to have state-banquet-level chefs. The food is really good!"

One-Eye, on the other hand, spotted the food and immediately sprang onto the table, venting all the frustration of being toyed with by Wen Yu on a plate of Mutant Beast meat!

Xiao Xue answered with a cheerful smile from the side.

"He probably has some trauma from it…"

Wen Yu simply shrugged, and Kuangliu did not seem particularly curious about that either.

"By the way, who owns this place?"

Kuangliu swallowed the food in his mouth and replied, "This is Military property. The Military uses it to entertain certain guests."

Only then did Wen Yu nod in understanding. In Wen Yu's eyes, in the Apocalypse, even inside the Settlement, opening a restaurant was the kind of thing only someone with more money than sense would do. Just looking at the restaurant's decor and the number of customers told the whole story.

In the entire restaurant, Wen Yu and Kuangliu's table were the only guests…

In less than ten minutes, Kuangliu, Xiao Xue, and One-Eye had swept the entire table of exquisitely prepared food clean.

Before the three of them could even step out of the restaurant, a voice rang out from the entrance.

"Well, well, if it isn't Lin-Ge, our great Lord War God!"

There was a faint note of mockery in his tone.

Hearing the voice, Kuangliu, who was walking at the front, stopped and looked the two people entering through the doorway up and down.

One of them wore a military uniform. Judging from the insignia on his shoulders, his rank was colonel.
