Chapter 84 – What Are We Supposed to Do Now?
“Well?”
“Remember now?”
The Maid swung the huge pair of scissors in her hand, producing two loud snips. Snip, snip.
“My lady said that once we catch the arsonist, we’re to cut them in half and bring them back.”
Lin Xi: “…”
She truly could not imagine what kind of monster would keep a Super Disaster Kun as a pet.
Putting everything else aside, this Maid standing in front of her with those huge scissors was definitely a serious problem. She had cut away eighty percent of Lin Xi’s firepower with a single snip!
“Can you people be reasonable?”
“It was your lady’s pet that dragged me into its Dark Domain.”
“I only attacked it because I had no choice. That counts as self-defense, okay?”
“Reasonable?” The Maid smiled contemptuously. “We, the Dark Realm Alliance, are the strongest reason there is!”
The Dark Realm Alliance??? Lin Xi had never heard of it, but she knew one thing for sure-she was in trouble this time…
“Ah!” Lin Xi suddenly cried out, pointing at the sky. “Magical Girl!”
“The Magical Girl is here!”
“Hurry up and run!”
The Maid flew into a rage at once. “You think I’m a three-year-old?! You’re dead-“
Before she could finish, a bone-chilling cold swept over her and sent a shiver down her spine.
“No way…”
She turned her head and saw Magical Girl Xia Xun standing atop a massive pillar of condensed ice. Behind her, countless icicles hovered in the air, ready to fire.
“Someone from the Dark Realm Alliance?!”
“When did you invade Z City?!”
“You want to hurt that ordinary person? Let’s see what my icicles have to say about that!”
Xia Xun had appeared here because of two phone calls.
The first had come from Jinrui Bank. They contacted He Mingyuan and informed him that the item had been stolen.
He Mingyuan was so furious that he smashed his phone.
He had spent so much time and effort setting up that trap, only for his targets to not fall for it at all-and even turn the tables on him.
So Xia Xun had hurried off toward Jinrui Bank.
Whether she could make it in time or not, she had to do everything in her power.
Not long after she set out, she received the second call. It was from the Commercial Street Guard Corps.
They asked Xia Xun for help, saying that a First-Grade Disaster Mingwing Clan had appeared in the air above Commercial Street.
Should she pursue the robbers who had already escaped, or head to Commercial Street to eliminate the monster and protect innocent citizens?
The answer was obvious.
Xia Xun changed course and rushed to Commercial Street.
She had not expected an unexpected bonus-the Dark Realm Alliance, a Dark Realm criminal organization that threatened all of humanity.
Facing Xia Xun, who was brimming with killing intent, the Maid had no intention of taking her head-on. She glanced back, only to find that the arsonist on the rooftop had already vanished without a trace.
“Hahaha,” the Maid laughed. “Ordinary person? She’s no ordinary person.”
How could Xia Xun possibly care what a criminal from the Dark Realm Alliance had to say? “Enough nonsense!”
With a wave of her hand, countless icicles shot toward the Maid.
The Maid sighed helplessly. “I’ll just have to find another chance to deal with that one…”
…
“Too close! Too close!! Too close!!!”
Lin Xi sprinted all the way, pulling off her hat, mask, and sunglasses as she ran downstairs.
While she was at it, she stripped off her jacket too and casually threw the whole disguise into a trash can.
“Xia Xun probably didn’t recognize me… Yeah, she probably didn’t. Her attention was all on that vicious Maid.”
Lin Xi felt both unlucky and grateful.
“Xia Xun was probably on her way to Jinrui Bank, right? Then she got a distress call from Commercial Street?”
“With Xia Xun’s personality, saving people would definitely matter more than catching thieves.”
Lin Xi continued heading down through the commercial building.
The sounds of battle from the rooftop grew fainter and fainter.
“I hope Xia Xun turns that hateful Maid into an ice sculpture!”
Lin Xi was utterly speechless.
All she had done was fire off a Big Rocket inside Kun’s Dark Domain. She never imagined it would cause this much trouble.
“The Dark Realm Alliance, huh? Sounds pretty impressive. I’ll ask Shi Yu about it when I get back…” Lin Xi calmed herself down and took out her phone.
“Since Xia Xun rushed off to Jinrui Bank in such a hurry, that means Shi Yu and the others got what they came for and escaped smoothly.”
“See? As long as Qin Ling’s perfect plan is in place, it makes no difference whether I’m there or not…”
Now that she finally had a quiet place, Lin Xi was about to contact Qin Ling and ask how things were going.
But her phone rang first.
It was Qin Ling calling.
Perfect timing.
Lin Xi answered.
Since she had irresponsibly run off on her own, she figured she should apologize first.
“I’m sorry, Qin Ling. I’m really sorry. I just left like that.”
“Um, Shi Yu and the others got away with the thing safely, right?”
“Lin Xi!!!” Qin Ling shouted. “You little-!!!”
Lin Xi moved the phone a little farther from her ear. “Don’t tell me… something happened???”
“Something happened! Something huge!”
“What happened?”
“When they were leaving the bank, they were ambushed. Shi Yu got shot in half!”
“Oh-” Lin Xi froze. “Huh???!!!”
“What ambush? What do you mean, shot in half???”
“I mean it literally!” Qin Ling snapped. “Did you score a zero on reading comprehension back in school?!”
Lin Xi finally recovered from the shock.
“Literally… meaning Shi Yu is dead???”
“Nooo!”
“She hasn’t even told me her bank card number and password yet! How can she just die?!”
At that moment, a weak voice came through the receiver.
“Perverted Witch… even if I die, I’ll never tell you…”
“Oh, so you’re not dead,” Lin Xi said, completely unable to picture how someone could still be alive after being shot in half. “Wait, you’re really not dead?! You made me worry for nothing.”
“You were worried about me?… I’ve already become a ghost. Tonight, I’ll visit you in your dreams…” Shi Yu’s voice cut off, replaced by Qin Ling’s.
“Shi Yu isn’t dead. She insisted on saying a couple words to you, and now she’s passed out again.”
Lin Xi: “…”
That bastard Shi Yu was as absurd as ever…
“I can’t explain it all over the phone. I sent you my location. Come over and you’ll understand.”
“All right, I’m on my way.” Lin Xi hung up.
She was extremely curious what exactly had happened to Shi Yu.
Could there actually be some saintly healer or miraculous doctor in ZERO who could drag people back from the underworld?
If that were true, joining ZERO might actually have some appeal. In the future, if she ever ran into danger, she could survive as long as she still had one breath left…
Lin Xi shook her head, forcing herself to stop thinking nonsense.
She couldn’t let herself become as absurd as Shi Yu.
Lin Xi went downstairs, only to find the lobby packed with people.
Xia Xun was here, so the crisis should have been resolved, right?
Why was everyone still hiding inside the building?
Lin Xi squeezed her way to the entrance with some effort and saw a cordon had been set up outside.
Members of the Guard Corps in black uniforms stood outside, fully armed and encircling the area.
“What… are they trying to do???” While Lin Xi was still wondering, someone among the Guard Corps raised a megaphone and shouted:
“Everyone, please remain calm!”
“I am Tian Hongguang, Captain of the Third Squadron of the Guard Corps!”
“Next, please pass through the inspection one by one before leaving on your own!”
Lin Xi’s expression darkened.
Oh, great. This has to be aimed at me!
I launched a Fireball upstairs, and the Guard Corps noticed!
What am I supposed to do now…
