Chapter 83 – I’m Here to Settle the Score
“Done!”
Through the scope, Zhao Xinning clearly saw the bullet strike the target’s body, instantly bursting into a cloud of blood mist.
The target was torn in two.
“Perfect!”
Zhao Xinning had long since planned to kill Shi Yu, and she had memorized Shi Yu’s height and the way she walked.
Even though all of them were wearing black hoods, Zhao Xinning could still tell exactly which one was Shi Yu.
That was why Zhao Xinning was one hundred percent certain that the one who had been shot was that hateful Shi Yu.
She wanted to take the other two down as well, but they didn’t give her the chance.
The other two reacted quickly. Dragging Shi Yu’s mangled remains with them, they rushed into the car in the blink of an eye.
Zhao Xinning took aim for a moment, then had no choice but to give up.
If she couldn’t kill them all in one go, then she could only let them leave safely. In any case, she absolutely could not allow them to fall into the hands of the Countermeasures Bureau, lest Xi get dragged into it.
Seeing them speed away in the car, Zhao Xinning stood up and quickly disassembled her sniper rifle.
The people from the Countermeasures Bureau might arrive at any moment. She had to get out of here fast too.
With the thorn in her side dealt with, Zhao Xinning was in an excellent mood.
In less than a minute, she had packed up and withdrawn. Only when she was heading downstairs did Zhao Xinning turn her phone back on.
In order to focus on sniping, she had temporarily shut it off after calling Lin Xi.
As soon as the phone powered on, sure enough, there were over a dozen missed calls, all from Lin Xi.
“Xi must be really worried about me.” Zhao Xinning immediately called her back. “I need to hurry up and let her know I’m safe.”
Now that Shi Yu was dead, the next step was to properly research how to purify Xi…
…
After receiving Zhao Xinning’s distress call, Lin Xi had rushed to Commercial Street in a panic.
Everything else could wait. Saving Xinning was what mattered.
On the way, she paid extra and told the driver to go faster. The driver took the money and delivered, showing off the driving skills of a middle-aged veteran behind the wheel.
It didn’t take Lin Xi long to arrive at Commercial Street.
And yet, the area was completely peaceful. Where were the Dark Realm monsters?
Maybe they were in some secluded alley nearby?
Lin Xi hurriedly contacted Zhao Xinning, asking her to send her location.
When her messages went unanswered, Lin Xi called over a dozen times in a row, but Zhao Xinning didn’t pick up any of them.
Lin Xi could only keep calling while running around, trying to see where exactly something abnormal had happened nearby.
Just as she was burning with anxiety, Zhao Xinning’s call came in.
“Hello?! Xinning?!”
“Thank God, you finally called me!”
“Were you hiding somewhere with no signal?”
Lin Xi asked anxiously, “Where are you?”
“I’m fine. Everything’s fine now,” Zhao Xinning said. “There were people from the Z City Guard nearby. They worked together and drove the monster off.”
“My phone just ran out of battery earlier. I hailed a taxi, charged it a bit in the car, and called you right away.”
“Don’t worry. I’m already on my way home.”
Zhao Xinning had indeed wrapped things up and was heading home, currently sitting in a taxi.
“As long as you’re okay. As long as you’re okay…” After hanging up, the heart Lin Xi had been holding in suspense finally settled back down.
However…
Near Commercial Street, the Dark Realm Disaster alarm really did start blaring.
“Didn’t Xinning say the monster was chased off by the Z City Guard?”
“It came back this quickly?”
The area around her descended into chaos and noise.
Lin Xi looked around, planning to first find somewhere quieter and ask Qin Ling how things were going on their end.
“Everything should be going smoothly, right?”
“Qin Ling’s plan was perfect. Even without me…” Lin Xi felt a headache coming on.
What was done was done. Whatever happened next, she would just have to deal with it…
A huge black shadow swept across the sky. Lin Xi looked up.
“Is the attack coming from above?”
Lin Xi narrowed her eyes and took a closer look, trying to figure out what the hell had almost hurt Xinning.
On closer inspection, she spotted an old acquaintance.
“Isn’t that the Mingwing Clan?”
Lin Xi might forget any other monster, but she would never forget the Mingwing Clan.
The moment she saw it, she couldn’t help swallowing.
“So you’re the one who almost attacked Xinning, huh?”
No matter what, Lin Xi was going to avenge Zhao Xinning and wipe this Mingwing Clan creature out!
She couldn’t openly use the Fireball Spell to shoot it down, so Lin Xi headed into the nearest commercial building.
To avoid anyone seeing her face, she played it safe and put on a hat, a mask, and sunglasses.
These disguise props had been prepared for robbing Jinrui Bank.
She hadn’t ended up taking part in the bank robbery, but now they were finally coming in handy.
Before she even reached the rooftop, she heard scattered gunshots.
“Is that the Guard Corps attacking the monster?”
The Z City Guard’s main duty wasn’t to fight Dark Realm monsters. That was the Dark Realm Disaster Countermeasures Bureau’s job.
However, once something like this happened, they had no choice but to step up, protect the citizens, and ensure they evacuated smoothly into the shelters.
“Good thing it’s only the Guard Corps…”
If it were people from the Countermeasures Bureau, Lin Xi really wouldn’t dare make a move.
“Anyway, before the Countermeasures Bureau gets here, I’ll turn that bastard flying in the sky-the one that almost hurt Xinning-into a ‘Grilled Bird.'”
Lin Xi reached the rooftop. The Mingwing Clan creature was still circling in midair, dodging the gunfire from the Guard Corps on the ground.
It seemed like… it was planning to dive???
Lin Xi saw through its intent, but she didn’t act right away.
She wanted to wait until it swept over the rooftop she was on before launching the Fireball Spell.
Turn it into a “Grilled Bird,” and it would drop right down.
A nicely roasted Grilled Bird couldn’t be allowed to fall downstairs.
The Mingwing Clan creature’s flight path drew closer and closer to the building.
A shadow fell from the sky and landed perfectly across the rooftop. Lin Xi seized the moment.
Now!
Intermediate Fireball Spell, eighty percent output!
Based on her barbecue experience from last time, an eighty percent output from the Intermediate Fireball Spell was just enough to roast a Mingwing Clan creature until it was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
However, Lin Xi had miscalculated.
The Fireball did indeed strike it dead-on, but it was split cleanly in half by a powerful current of air.
“Oh crap!” Lin Xi’s heart sank. This Mingwing Clan creature was stronger than the last one!
She’d run into an expert among the Mingwing Clan!
Sensing that something was wrong, Lin Xi, whose sneak attack had failed, immediately turned and ran.
“Where do you think you’re going?!” A shout from above scared Lin Xi so badly she nearly jumped out of her skin.
Lin Xi had heard the voices of the Mingwing Clan before. With those broken-gong throats of theirs, there was no way they could produce that kind of Mature Female Voice.
“A human???” Lin Xi stopped in her tracks. With a bang, a woman in a Maid outfit descended from the sky.
She was also carrying a huge, bizarre pair of scissors over her shoulder, with flames still lingering on the blades.
Lin Xi instantly understood. It was this Maid who had cut her Fireball apart!
Terrifying. Absolutely terrifying!
The Maid raised the giant scissors with one hand and pointed them straight at Lin Xi.
“I’ve been looking for you for days. Finally found you.”
Lin Xi: “???”
“Wait, what? Who are you? Do we know each other? If you can ride a Mingwing Clan creature, that means you’re not human either, right?”
“Since neither of us is human, uh… can we shake hands and call it even?”
The Maid said coldly, “You burned my young lady’s pet. I’ve come to settle the score with you!”
“I never set fire to anyone’s pet!” Lin Xi denied it at once. “I’ve never even burned flowers or grass, let alone an animal.”
The Maid pointed up at the sky. “You burned Kun with a Fireball. Have you forgotten already?”
Lin Xi: “…”
Kun?
A Super-Grade Disaster!
That thing was a pet???
