Chapter 83 – Enhancement

Wen Yu nodded in understanding and immediately directed Xing to charge toward the Outpost at full speed.

He had no intention of taking those Bipedal Lizards head-on!

Kuangliu, however, pondered for a moment before slowly speaking.

"The Military will launch more long-range strikes. I think we could go back and take another look, then attack after the missiles hit. At the very least, your Soul Pet is powerful enough to burn them to ashes!"

Wen Yu immediately shook his head.

Was he kidding? The Blood Beast's gruesome fate was still fresh in his mind!

If those creatures managed to surround their group, the outcome went without saying.

As far as Wen Yu was concerned, the potential reward did not come close to justifying the risk!

Kuangliu probably understood that as well, because he did not try to pressure Wen Yu with nauseating appeals to "national duty" or "the state of the war."

That was also one of the things Wen Yu appreciated about Kuangliu.

The man entertained no unrealistic fantasies. Everything always came down to a clear exchange of interests, especially when it came to dealing with Wen Yu.

That suited Wen Yu perfectly!

Xing was extremely fast, but Demon City was still a considerable distance from the Outpost.

After witnessing the spectacular sight of two more missile launches along the way, Wen Yu finally made it back to Central City.

While they were riding on Xing's back, Kuangliu explained the results of both missile strikes.

The Military had been much smarter about the second strike. In addition to increasing the payload, they had also deployed large numbers of napalm bombs and changed the types of missiles they used.

Most notably, they had fired a large number of short-range bunker-buster missiles to counter the Bipedal Lizards' tactic of burrowing underground.

Bipedal Lizard was the name the Military had given the Baru Demons. It was quite fitting, and Wen Yu was perfectly happy to use it for these unknown Demonic Creatures.

The second missile strike finally produced results!

At present, whether they were Class Holders or Demonic Creatures below Level 5, they were still largely helpless against modern weaponry. That was even more true for the Bipedal Lizards, most of which were low-level Demonic Creatures!

Once again, a sky-blotting barrage of missiles struck its targets with pinpoint accuracy!

It had to be said that Huaxia's Second Artillery Corps was unquestionably among the best in the world when it came to missiles!

The smoke kicked up by the countless explosions was visible even to Wen Yu in the distance. The ground of the Treasure Land itself trembled twice beneath the devastating bombardment.

The Bipedal Lizards caught directly in the barrage did not fare well either!

The bunker-buster missiles instantly killed countless Demonic Creatures hiding underground. The napalm bombs then unleashed their power, scorching the creatures' corpses with intense heat, but their overall effect was limited.

Not long after the missiles struck the ground, vast numbers of Bipedal Lizards crawled out once again. Braving the flames covering the ground, they opened their jaws wide and devoured the corpses of their own kind!

All in all, the second strike only managed to wipe out roughly tens of thousands of Bipedal Lizards!

And so, the Military launched its third wave of attacks!

This time, it was a saturation bombardment using surface-to-surface missiles!

According to Kuangliu, the missiles fired in this wave comprised the Military's entire remaining stockpile at the Outpost!

Missiles blanketed the sky in an unending stream, as though the Military intended to blast even the sand and soil in the target area into ash.

The bombardment continued for dozens of minutes, completely annihilating the Bipedal Lizards hiding near the surface. It also forced those buried deep underground to scramble aboveground and retreat toward Demon City, enduring the missile barrage as they fled.

Three successive waves of missile strikes forcibly drove back the attacking Bipedal Lizard horde.

Unfortunately…

"If this is how we're going to play it, we might as well get the hell out of the Treasure Land."

Those were Wen Yu's exact words!

Kuangliu nodded in agreement.

Large-scale weapons of destruction like missiles awarded no Points for killing Demonic Creatures. In other words, those three successive waves of missile strikes had accomplished nothing beyond forcing the enemy back!

"By the way, didn't you prepare a couple of nukes? You could just wipe the Demon City off the map and be done with it."

Wen Yu's tone was half joking and half serious.

Kuangliu merely shook his head without saying anything else.

Perhaps in the Military's eyes, this Outpost was still extremely valuable, even with the emergence of an absurdly overpowered species like the Bipedal Lizard!

Seeing Kuangliu's silent response, Wen Yu shrugged.

As far as Wen Yu was concerned, it would be best if this Treasure Land continued to exist!

As soon as they arrived at the Outpost, Kuangliu leaped off Xing's back and headed straight for the Central Castle.

Wen Yu wasted no time either. After surveying the Outpost, he headed straight toward the Exchange Pillar near the Central Castle.

The Outpost had changed dramatically. Fully armed soldiers and military vehicles were everywhere, and squads of new recruits could occasionally be seen running drills.

It looked like the Military intended to turn this place into a training ground.

Naturally, that suited Wen Yu just fine!

However, after witnessing the Bipedal Lizard's terrifying method of reproduction, Wen Yu had serious doubts about how much longer this Treasure Land could survive!

"Let's just hope it holds out for as long as it can!"

He sighed softly. Ignoring the soldiers' astonished stares at Xing, he let Xing carry him through the air to the Exchange Pillar.

Wen Yu jumped down from Xing's back. Xing slowly shrank, then sprawled across the top of Wen Yu's head.

Wen Yu placed a hand on the Exchange Pillar and issued a silent command.

"Check Point balance."

"Ding. Remaining balance: 10,839,782 Points."

A balance of more than ten million Points. That was what he had earned over the past few days, an absolutely staggering sum!

Wen Yu briefly reviewed his current Physical Attribute.

After using Absorption on eight Magic Crystals from Level 4 Demonic Creatures, Wen Yu's Physical Attribute had risen to 204 Points!

Of course, One-Eye and Xing had secretly swallowed quite a few Level 4 Magic Crystals themselves.

Wen Yu had no issue with that. Letting One-Eye and Xing consume the Level 4 Magic Crystals would strengthen both beasts as well!

He made a quick estimate of how many Points he would need to raise his Physical Attribute to 500 Points.

A single Level 4 Magic Crystal with no Attribute cost 20,000 Points. To raise Wen Yu's Physical Attribute to the Level 4 peak of 500 Points, he would need another 592 Magic Crystals!

Which meant…

"11.84 million Points…"

Wen Yu gritted his teeth when he saw the figure.

Before the Demon Realm Gate opened, there was simply nowhere he could encounter Demonic Creature on this scale. Yet even after going all out here, he still had not earned enough to max out his own Physical Attribute. The realization struck Wen Yu like a hammer blow!

The price of his overwhelming combat power was having several bottomless pits to feed with Magic Crystal!

Every gain came with a loss. That was simply how things worked!

"So you'd better hold out a little longer!"
