Chapter 82 – Artillery Strike

Volume 3: Rising Winds and Clouds

It did not take Wen Yu long to catch up with the Demonic Creature forces that had gotten a head start.

First, he summoned One-Eye and drew some of his blood. Then he summoned Faceless and had it copy One-Eye's strength.

Wen Yu tossed both Soul Pets in their Big Dog forms from Xing's back.

He then entered Combat State, raising his Physical Attribute beyond the 400-Point mark. Standing atop Xing, he summoned Wild Song and Throb and unleashed a barrage of attacks on the Demonic Creature horde below.

Kuangliu showed the Demonic Creatures no mercy either. He had no intention of leaving them alive just so the Military's soldiers could use them for training.

He swiftly activated his Skill and leaped from Xing's back.

The enormous White Tiger Phantom flickered around Kuangliu as a surge of violent power swept through the Demonic Creature ranks, flattening a vast swath of them.

Xing also plunged toward the ground, using Tear to shred the Ancient Demon at the front and several Level 4 Demonic Creatures beside it. It did not even leave the Magic Crystals for Wen Yu, crunching everything up and swallowing it all!

Without any top-tier fighters to hold them back, the low-level Demonic Creatures could not withstand the two men and three Soul Pets for even a moment. They were completely wiped out!

Next came clearing the battlefield and disposing of the Demonic Creature corpses.

After witnessing how the Blood Beast had been summoned, Wen Yu had made up his mind. He would not leave so much as a drop of blood or a scrap of flesh for the Black-skinned Demonic Creatures behind them!

Disposing of the bodies was simple. One-Eye, Xing, and Faceless spewed massive pillars of flame from their mouths, instantly charring the remains of the Demonic Creatures they had finished eating and completely evaporating the Demon Blood in the process!

Of course, Wen Yu had not witnessed how the Baru Demon Legion reproduced. Burning the bodies to ash had merely turned out to be the right move by accident!

But just because Wen Yu had not seen it did not mean the Military's reconnaissance network had missed it!

The Military had already gained a rough understanding of the creatures' reproductive method when the Baru Demon Legion devoured the Demonic Creature corpses outside the Demon City.

The sight of them using Split Reproduction like single-celled organisms filled the Military personnel watching with overwhelming fear!

It was easy to predict what would happen once they entered close combat with the Baru Demons. As the creatures continued to kill and feed, their numbers would only grow with every passing moment!

Eventually, the Military's Class Holders would be completely overrun by an endless tide of Baru Demons!

At the Outpost, a meeting concerning the Baru Demon Legion was drawing to a close.

Fang Wenhai, who sat at the head of the table, tapped it twice before speaking.

"Then we'll proceed with the plan we just agreed on."

The plan they had discussed was, of course, aimed at the Baru Demons currently charging toward the Outpost!

The moment Fang Wenhai gave the order, the vast machinery of the Military sprang into motion!

Throughout the streets of the Outpost, countless missile trucks rapidly calibrated their targeting coordinates based on intelligence from the front.

Within minutes, the commander's order came through. The short-range missiles mounted on the trucks shot into the sky before streaking toward their target!

Positioned between the Outpost and the Baru Demons, Wen Yu and Kuangliu naturally saw the countless short-range missiles trailing flames across the sky.

"What's going on?"

Wen Yu frowned as he turned to Kuangliu.

The two of them had spoken briefly just moments earlier. According to Kuangliu, the best way to deal with these newly emerged Demonic Creatures was to establish the battlefield in front of the Outpost.

With the advantage of modern weaponry, they would meet these bizarre-looking Demonic Creatures head-on!

First, they could rely on the city walls and heavy firepower. Second, it would serve as a training exercise for the troops!

And in the eyes of the Military's High Command, the second was what truly mattered!

Kuangliu frowned as well. He took out his communicator and contacted the Outpost command center.

It did not take long before he returned with a grim expression. Pulling out the tablet he carried with him, he placed it directly in Wen Yu's hands.

"See for yourself. This is how the Demonic Creature units farther back responded to the missile barrage!"

The Military's short-range missiles struck their targets with precision!

From Kuangliu's explanation, Wen Yu came to understand that most missiles could essentially be regarded as enormous explosive charges.

The difference lay in the explosive yield of their warheads.

The warheads currently being launched by the Military were nowhere near the level of devastating high-yield nuclear weapons, but their explosive payloads were still nothing to scoff at!

The screen clearly showed that just before the missiles hit, the leading Demon Seed, who was riding atop the head of a massive lizard-like Demonic Creature, barked an order.

The Bipedal Lizard creatures immediately churned their legs at incredible speed, digging huge pits into the ground before diving inside!

Their speed was astonishing!

Then the missiles rained down, blanketing the area and striking the targeted land with precision.

In an instant, smoke and dust engulfed everything. Even the drone feed briefly cut out.

The static-filled screen recovered its signal moments later.

Craters and corpses littered the ground. Some of the bodies were covered in scorch marks from the flames.

But soon, the entire impact zone seemed to come alive as countless members of the Bipedal Lizard species crawled out from underground!

At best, the missile barrage had wiped out a fifth of the Bipedal Lizard creatures, and most of the dead were smaller Demonic Creature specimens!

But it was not over yet.

Without waiting for another order from the leading Demon Seed, countless members of the Bipedal Lizard species pounced on the corpses of their own kind. Their jaws opened wide as they ravenously devoured the flesh of their dead brethren.

Then came the split. Then reproduction…

Wen Yu stared in shock. Before long, the Bipedal Lizard population had almost completely returned to its original size!

They had probably lost only a little over a thousand Demonic Creature specimens.

Wen Yu looked at Kuangliu, then at the Baru Demon on the screen, and swallowed hard.

"These things…"

Before Wen Yu could finish, Kuangliu spoke with a livid expression.

"You've already seen how they reproduce. What's even more terrifying is how efficiently they utilize the energy contained in flesh."

"According to Military Headquarters' estimates, their conversion rate for the energy in flesh is nearly one hundred percent!"

"In other words, if they eat the corpse of a Level 1 organism, they can produce another Level 1 Demonic Creature!"

"If they get close to the Outpost and force us into close-quarters combat, you can imagine what will happen, can't you?"

Hearing Kuangliu's words, Wen Yu nodded.

In a sense, this ability was practically an Immortal Body!

If they devoured the corpse of one of their own, another would grow in its place!

If they devoured an enemy's corpse, it could also be transformed into another member of their species!

It was the perfect assimilation ability!

Combined with their considerable individual combat strength, the Bipedal Lizard creatures would convert every living creature on the battlefield into one of their own!
