Chapter 92 – Cooperation with the Military

Faceless achieved Promotion by devouring the flesh of Mutant Creatures.

From the simple experiment Wen Yu had just conducted, he was also able to draw one conclusion.

Magic Crystals were composed largely of Blood Essence.

There was one strange detail, however. One-Eye and Xing could absorb Evolution Energy from the flesh of lower-level creatures, yet they could not absorb Evolution Energy from lower-level Magic Crystals.

Perhaps Magic Crystals contained some unknown component, or even some secret Wen Yu knew nothing about.

Wen Yu was never going to get anywhere researching these things on his own. In fact, even the Military had yet to determine exactly what kind of substance Magic Crystals were.

But that did not stop Wen Yu from maximizing his gains!

At the sound of Wen Yu's voice, One-Eye and Xing immediately raised their heads and looked at him in confusion.

The two Soul Pets had been so engrossed in eating that they had completely missed Wen Yu's experiment.

Looking at the little less than half of the flesh still left on the ground, Wen Yu felt his heart bleed.

"How many Magic Crystals and Points have gone to waste here?!"

Wen Yu ordered Faceless to cancel its copied form and return to its dough-like appearance. He picked it up, then put One-Eye and Xing to work.

Their job was simply to gather all the remaining flesh in one place.

One-Eye and Xing looked deeply reluctant, but after Wen Yu tempted them with Magic Crystals, they sprang into action.

The two enormous Level 4 Mutant Beasts scrambled back and forth, all four legs apiece moving in a blur!

Before long, a reeking mountain of flesh stood before Wen Yu.

"You took out all the Magic Crystals, right?"

At Wen Yu's question, One-Eye and Xing obediently sat before him, their enormous heads bobbing up and down.

"You can have them all!"

Wen Yu waved generously, prompting One-Eye and Xing to let out two excited cries.

Ignoring their noisy celebration and the Little Soul Beast repeatedly bumping against his cheek, Wen Yu placed Faceless on top of the mountain of flesh.

Wen Yu had never fed Faceless before, so naturally, he had no idea how it ate.

Poor Faceless. Ever since it began following Wen Yu, it had eaten nothing but dust!

The moment Faceless encountered such a huge quantity of flesh, it immediately began devouring it, allowing Wen Yu to witness how it fed for the first time.

Countless white filaments slowly began to split off from Faceless's body before plunging straight into the mountain of flesh beneath it.

Like drinking straws, the white filaments continuously drew nutrients from the flesh and carried them back into Faceless's body.

As vast amounts of Blood Essence flowed into Faceless, its soft white body gradually turned gray. Its feeding speed continued to accelerate, and before long, the entire mountain of flesh had vanished!

Faceless had also grown a full size larger.

A few seconds later, its body slowly began to shrink. At the same time, the gray Blood Essence inside it was gradually assimilated, until Faceless once again became a white lump.

Wen Yu picked Faceless up and kneaded its body all over. After examining it for a while, he shook his head.

"I can't see any change at all…"

This was one of Faceless's drawbacks. It had no intelligence and was extremely difficult to communicate with, leaving Wen Yu with no way to determine how close it was to Promotion.

After ordering One-Eye and Xing to shrink, Wen Yu took a communicator from his Spatial Ring. As soon as he connected to the channel, he asked, "Does the Military have any tissue samples from high-level Bipedal Lizards?"

Kuangliu's voice quickly came through from the other end.

"Of course. We have samples from both Level 4 and Level 5 specimens!"

The Military had collected them from the battlefield after the missile strike in order to study the species' characteristics, physical composition, and genome.

"Kuangliu, I have a proposal for you. Interested?"

The proposed arrangement was quite simple.

First, the Military would provide flesh from a Level 4 Bipedal Lizard, allowing Faceless to transform into one. The Military would then gather flesh to feed Faceless, enabling the Bipedal Lizard it had transformed into to produce Level 3 Bipedal Lizards.

Faceless would be responsible for hunting them down. Every Magic Crystal would go to the Military, while every Point would go to Wen Yu.

Of course, Wen Yu stood to gain a great deal from this arrangement. All he had to do was leave Faceless in one place and give it a single command: Kill the Demonic Creatures you produce.

Once transmitted through the Soul Realm, a command that simple was still just within Faceless's ability to understand.

This would effectively give Wen Yu a steady source of Points, while providing the Military with a reliable supply of Level 3 Magic Crystals at absolutely no risk.

The two sides agreed immediately.

As for letting Faceless undergo Promotion first, the Military firmly rejected the idea. At the present stage, Level 3 Magic Crystals were far more useful to the Military than Level 4 Magic Crystals.

The Military wanted to produce a vast number of Level 4 Class Holders before anything else.

However, the Military did not completely cut off Faceless's path to Promotion. Wen Yu could use the corpses of every Demonic Creature he killed to help Faceless undergo Promotion.

The site of their operation, or rather, the place where Faceless would be stationed, was directly in front of the Outpost.

Wen Yu moved quickly, but the Military moved even faster.

By the time Wen Yu returned to the Outpost on Xing's back, Military personnel were already waiting for him out front.

As soon as they reached an agreement, Kuangliu had returned to the Outpost and filled his Spatial Ring with flesh from the Demonic Creatures he had hunted.

When he spotted Wen Yu, Kuangliu smiled.

"Where's that miraculous Soul Pet of yours? Let me see it."

Wen Yu took out Faceless and placed it directly in Kuangliu's hand.

"Well, would you look at that? What is this thing? It certainly has a distinctive shape, but no matter how I look at it, it doesn't seem alive."

"It's artificial. I took it from the Demon Worship Cult."

Kuangliu naturally knew what the Demon Worship Cult was. Wen Yu had already shared that information with him, though he had kept Faceless's existence secret.

There was no longer any reason to hide it. Compared to the benefits he was about to receive, this little secret was hardly worth keeping.

Kuangliu nodded slightly and handed Faceless back to Wen Yu.

"We're investigating the Demon Worship Cult as well. We've already uncovered a few leads. We may need your help when the time comes."

"No problem."

Kuangliu nodded at Wen Yu's reply. Without wasting any more time, he said, "Let's begin."

Wei Tian, the deputy director of the Academy of Sciences, brought over a mass of flesh from a Level 4 Bipedal Lizard and inserted it directly into Faceless's body.

Within moments, Faceless transformed into a Bipedal Lizard.

Its forty-meter-long body and slick, revolting hide made Kuangliu frown in disgust, but Wei Tian's eyes lit up.

"Quick, quick! Feed it the flesh!"

At Kuangliu's command, the surrounding soldiers immediately began removing lumps of grayish-black Bipedal Lizard flesh from his Spatial Ring and tossing them in front of Faceless.

Wen Yu had no idea what level the Bipedal Lizards the flesh came from had been, but that did not matter. The Bipedal Lizard's Split Reproduction ability could be activated as long as it consumed enough energy-rich flesh. The flesh's level was irrelevant.
