Chapter 14 – Police

Volume 1: Apocalypse Beginning

"Clack, clack!"

A crisp sound rang out.

Wen Yu pried open the security door, entered, and casually cut down the Zombies that rushed over at the noise. He carefully surveyed the situation inside the house.

It had been almost a day since he parted ways with the Guardian Squad from the future. As Wen Yu made his way toward Riverside Park, he killed Zombies along the way.

As dusk approached, Wen Yu stopped his day-long slaughter, found a Residential Area, slipped into an apartment, and prepared to get a good night's rest.

He casually found some food in the room, filled his stomach, and went straight to the master bedroom to rest and recover his strength for the journey to Riverside Park tomorrow.

After a day of fighting, even with the physique of a Class Holder, Wen Yu couldn't escape a deep sense of exhaustion.

Lying on the soft bed, he briefly reviewed the day's gains and losses.

"Hmm, my physical stats have reached 3 points, and I spent 50 Points to exchange for an F-Rank Protective Suit. Not a bad harvest."

The Protective Suit was worn under Wen Yu's outer clothing. The entire suit was like a bodysuit-except for the head and hands, all other parts were protected.

The F-Rank Protective Suit was enough to perfectly defend against the bites of ordinary Zombies. This meant Wen Yu no longer had to fear being surrounded by small groups of Zombies.

As he thought about this, Wen Yu's consciousness gradually faded.

"Wait for me, Officer Xiao, Officer Xiao, wait for me!"

Not far from the Residential Area where Wen Yu was staying, a group of four people was frantically fleeing.

Chasing after them were three Zombies, but these three were clearly different from ordinary Zombies. Not only were they faster than normal people, but their fingernails had grown much longer, as if each hand had five short daggers.

A low, guttural roar sounded, and their wide-open mouths revealed jagged, sharp teeth.

"Damn it." Seeing the pot-bellied, balding Secretary Wang falling behind and about to be caught by the three Level 1 Zombies, the burly, middle-aged man in a police uniform at the front quickly turned around. The Fire Axe in his hand swung out at lightning speed, striking one of the Level 1 Zombies and making it stagger.

"Hurry up, Secretary Wang, hurry!"

Officer Xiao shouted urgently at the pot-bellied, balding middle-aged man.

Seeing Officer Xiao block the Zombies, Secretary Wang didn't look back and dashed forward as fast as he could.

The young couple running at the very front saw Officer Xiao, who had originally been leading, turn back to fight the Zombies. The man wanted to go back and help Officer Xiao, but his girlfriend held him back tightly.

Seeing the fear and worry in his girlfriend's eyes, the young man sighed, grabbed her hand, and ran forward even faster.

Facing the three Level 1 Zombies in front of him, Officer Xiao couldn't help but feel a sense of despair.

Since yesterday, everything in the world had changed-first came the man-eating monsters.

Originally, with the Police Station's defensive strength, dealing with Zombies was no problem at all. Moreover, after the police at the Police Station discovered the secret of Points by killing Zombies, everyone with combat ability successfully became a Class Holder thanks to the handguns in the station.

With such power, the Police Station managed to gather nearly a hundred survivors on the first day of the Apocalypse.

But then, disaster struck unexpectedly.

A group of rats, bigger than house cats, burst out of the Police Station's sewers and bit anyone they saw.

At first, the Class Holders in the Police Station tried to fight to the death, but no one expected that, despite their small size, these rats were incredibly strong, and their mutated incisors were even harder than steel.

The most critical problem was their overwhelming numbers.

Thus, the Police Station's defenses collapsed. All the survivors scattered and fled, only to be relentlessly attacked by Zombies on the streets. The entire group of survivors was completely dispersed.

By the time Officer Xiao had run far away, only Secretary Wang and the young couple remained by his side.

Not sure if it was just bad luck, but as night was about to fall, the scent of blood wafting from Officer Xiao's wounds attracted three Level 1 Zombies. Thus, Officer Xiao and the young Class Holder, along with two ordinary people, fought as they fled, eventually escaping into the Residential Area where Wen Yu was resting.

Wen Yu was awakened by the commotion downstairs. In the Apocalypse, especially when alone, Wen Yu naturally didn't dare to sleep too deeply.

He slowly moved to the window and, by the light of the moon, saw what was happening below.

A four-person team was being chased by three Level 1 Zombies, with two Class Holders among them. Judging by their builds and weapons, they were probably both Warriors.

This puzzled Wen Yu. With the strength of two Class Holders, they should have been able to handle three Level 1 Zombies.

But it was obvious that the young Class Holder at the front had no intention of turning back to help, and was instead focused solely on running for his life.

Wen Yu narrowed his eyes and looked at the one at the rear, the police officer desperately fighting the three Zombies, and made up his mind.

"Looks like today's the day I die," Xiao Lin muttered, swinging his Fire Axe with all his might. A faint glow appeared on the axe-this was the Warrior's F-Rank skill, Slam, which could slightly increase damage.

Unfortunately, after a whole day of fleeing and fighting, even the strength of a Level 1 Class Holder was starting to fail Xiao Lin.

This swing missed its intended target, only managing to sever a Zombie's thigh.

Breathing heavily, Xiao Lin was already in despair. He didn't resent his teammate for abandoning him-just felt a bit disappointed.

"If only I hadn't turned back earlier, maybe I'd still be alive," Xiao Lin couldn't help but think.

Just as Xiao Lin was preparing to make a last desperate stand, a figure suddenly darted out. The Steel Blade in his hand flashed coldly, decapitating a still-intact Zombie with a single strike.

Naturally, it was Wen Yu who saved Xiao Lin. When Wen Yu saw the fight downstairs, he immediately calculated that the police officer would surely die if he had to face three Level 1 Zombies alone.

Estimating his own combat strength, Wen Yu realized that the three Level 1 Zombies below were basically just moving Points for him. He immediately entered Combat State and rushed over, managing to save the officer while Xiao Lin was still alive.

Of the two remaining Zombies, one had its thigh severed and was already crippled, while the other was covered in wounds, filthy blood constantly oozing out.

Level 1 Zombies had already awakened a bit of simple intelligence. Perhaps sensing that Wen Yu was not someone they could handle, they let out two furious roars and no longer dared to approach.

Wen Yu pushed off with his legs, charging swiftly at the two Zombies. The battles during the day had raised his physical stats to 3 points, and in his fused state, his 5-point physique completely overwhelmed the two crippled Level 1 Zombies.

With two swift strikes-without even needing to use Soul Strike-Wen Yu sent both Zombies straight to hell.

Wen Yu gave the collapsed police officer a quick once-over.

"Brother, thank you. If it weren't for you, I'd have lost my life here today."

Xiao Lin carefully observed Wen Yu. The young man before him looked gentle and frail, but his actions were clean and decisive. The mysterious little orb on his shoulder made Xiao Lin feel extremely threatened.

"It's nothing. Saving you was just a matter of convenience. But I do have a few questions for you."

Wen Yu bared his white teeth at the officer, staring at him. Though he was smiling, the coldness in his eyes only grew stronger.

This was what Wen Yu had thought of the moment he saw the police uniform.

He needed a Gun-it would speed up his Promotion considerably.

Even a Bulletproof Vest would be good; at the very least, it would help him avoid being shot in the back by someone else.

As for whether this officer would willingly tell him where to find these things, that didn't matter. Wen Yu had plenty of ways to get what he wanted.
