Chapter 30 – Ancient Demon
Volume 1: Apocalypse Beginning
Wen Yu narrowed his eyes.
Although there was something in this Treasure Land putting on airs that he couldn't identify,
what it said wasn't wrong. The biggest challenge before him wasn't finding this unknown existence, but dealing with the Demon Realm Gate right in front of him.
If he couldn't handle it, he would lose his life.
"By the way, kid, let me tell you, there's a Big One sealed behind this gate. Of course, with your strength, you should have, hmm, about a ten percent chance of success."
"Are you kidding me? Ten percent? With my ability, I only have a ten percent chance of success? This Treasure Land is basically set up to kill people."
"Kid, to be honest, if you can't defeat this one, how could you possibly get that treasure? That's a real treasure, you know. Do your best: kill it, or be killed. I hope you succeed."
The last sentence, this unknown presence said with the utmost seriousness.
"Tch."
Wen Yu curled his lips. Easy for them to say-he'd already gone all out in battle, only to be told there was just a ten percent chance of success.
That meant the result was real.
He had a ninety percent chance of dying.
Wen Yu disliked probability, because probability meant the unknown, and the unknown meant a lack of control.
The Demon Realm Gate before him slowly took shape, its pitch-black door radiating an aura of death.
Wen Yu didn't know what this so-called Big One was, but as for Demonic Creatures, Wen Yu was more than familiar with them.
Any Demonic Creature was a powerful being-even the cannon fodder among them matched ordinary practitioners of the same level.
Wen Yu stared at the Demon Realm Gate, putting the newly obtained F-Rank Protective Jade in the inner pocket of his Protective Suit to ensure it would work, then raised his War Blade and fixed his gaze on the Demon Realm Gate before him.
Creak. The Mini Demon Realm Gate in front of him slowly opened a crack, releasing a surge of dark gray Demon Qi.
Then, a hand covered in scales and sharp claws slowly stretched out. Heavy breathing sounded from inside, making Wen Yu's heart tighten.
"The pressure is overwhelming. What on earth is this thing?"
The Demon Realm Gate opened wider and wider until it was fully open.
A humanoid creature stood inside the Demon Realm Gate, then stepped out with one foot.
Nearly two meters tall, standing on two legs with an agile and powerful build. Its overall appearance was similar to humans. However, no one would mistake this monster for a human.
A demonic face, with a pair of black, curved horns sweeping backward from its head, pure black eyes showing no emotion-only the purest desire for slaughter and destruction. Beneath its eyes, its nose was barely visible, and not far below was a mouth filled with dense, sharp teeth.
Although this Demonic Creature's body proportions resembled a human's, its chest and back were more compact and robust, showing immense upper-body strength, and its legs were a size thicker than a normal human's, the entire body densely covered in blue-gray scales reflecting a faint light.
More strikingly, this monster had four thick, muscular arms. The muscle lines on its arms rippled with every breath. The dense scales could not hide its terrifying power. There was no doubt-those sharp claws could tear any enemy to shreds.
On the monster's hardened back, a row of sharp, dense bone spines protruded, neatly arranged along the spine down to the hips, then extending to a one-meter-long tail. The tip of the tail shimmered with blue light, like a blade, making Wen Yu's skin prickle with pain.
Not as large as he had imagined.
Although in the Apocalypse everyone knew that a massive body could bring great strength, it also inevitably led to another problem: a lack of agility.
The most powerful creatures would never have such an obvious weakness. On the contrary, those with medium-sized bodies possessed truly outstanding combat abilities – just like humans, just like… the monster in front of Wen Yu.
"What is that?" Wen Yu felt a wave of numbness sweep through him. Every cell in his body screamed in the surging Demon Qi, as if he were facing his natural enemy.
"That is an Ancient Demon – the leader among Demonic Creatures, a king, the master of the Demon Realm, and also… our greatest enemy, and yours, human."
The mysterious, youthful voice had lost all its previous frivolity. Now it was filled with gravity, caution, hostility, and even a barely perceptible trace of fear.
"So, this thing is my final opponent?" Wen Yu narrowed his eyes, studying the Ancient Demon intently. Yet on this body, Wen Yu could find no weakness at all. This physique was a work of art, created solely for slaughter.
Wen Yu took comfort in the odds. At least he still had a ten percent chance of victory. Without that reassurance, Wen Yu worried he might have lost the will to fight.
"Give me a hint – at least tell me this guy's general traits. Besides, it seems you want it dead, too." Seeing that the creature in front of him had no intention of attacking, just standing there blankly and radiating a constant oppressive force, Wen Yu was glad to learn more from the mysterious presence.
"Hmm, giving you some information doesn't really count as breaking the rules. There's nothing in the Treasure Land's rules that forbids telling the challenger information."
The mysterious presence thought for a moment, then simply revealed the Ancient Demon's status.
"Listen carefully. The Ancient Demon before you has had its consciousness erased by the Treasure Land. It's nothing more than a puppet, so it fights purely on instinct."
"Don't underestimate the combat instincts of an Ancient Demon. Their instincts are even stronger than those of wild beasts. Still, at least this Ancient Demon has lost its combat experience and technique."
"This is a Peak Level 1 Ancient Demon. The Ancient Demon Clan is born with innate physical strength. After the Ruler's will enveloped Earth, all physical attributes and skills were digitized."
"But this is actually unreasonable. So-called physical attributes only reflect a creature's evolutionary level, but the specific attributes can vary greatly. For example, a Level 2 mouse is only half as tall as a human and has a physical attribute of 10. Its physical strength could never match that of an elephant of the same level and attribute. Their combat power would differ overwhelmingly – this is the advantage of race."
"The racial advantage of the Ancient Demons far surpasses that of humans. The Ancient Demon before you is Peak Level 1 with a physical attribute of 10. But by human standards, its physical attribute should be over 20 – twice that of a human, and it surpasses humans in every aspect."
"Furthermore, the Ancient Demon Clan's abilities are extremely powerful. Any skill an Ancient Demon possesses is Rank A or higher."
"This Ancient Demon, its first skill is…"
