Chapter 37 – Terrifying Killing Intent

Volume 1: Apocalypse Beginning

Simba stepped out of the park where he had spent his entire life, only to realize that the world outside was unexpectedly wonderful.

It wasn't because of the scenery, but simply because there was so much food outside. Watching the humanoid creatures around him constantly throw themselves at him, only to be chewed up and devoured, this feeling intoxicated Simba. He felt that leaving the park was the best decision he had ever made in his life.

Should I settle down out here? Simba wondered.

His massive head shook, knocking down the few remaining Zombies nearby. Simba paid no attention to such weak creatures.

Better to go home; the "bed" at home was much more comfortable to sleep on.

Simba was already full. He turned around, opened his huge mouth, and a massive Flame Flow swept away the staggering Zombies behind him. Seeing that there was nothing left around that could serve as food, Simba yawned contentedly. "Lions are supposed to eat and sleep, sleep and eat-especially male lions," Simba thought with certainty.

Then, he slowly walked back toward the park.

Inside the park, Wen Yu and One-Eye tacitly stopped fighting. Since neither side could achieve the result they wanted, ending the battle was the best choice.

Seeing the cruel killing intent in One-Eye's blood-red eyes, Wen Yu glared back fiercely: "Dead Dog, I'll let you off today. If you dare come looking for death again, I'll take your dog life."

Although One-Eye didn't understand what Wen Yu meant, it didn't stop him from catching the tone. He growled lowly a few times and slowly retreated toward the main entrance of the park.

Wen Yu watched as One-Eye retreated farther and farther away, and he himself slowly moved toward the back of the park.

Until neither could see the other's silhouette, Wen Yu shook the Steel Blade in his hand angrily. Not being able to kill this Dead Dog today would be troublesome in the future. It was easy to imagine that One-Eye would keep causing trouble for him, and if anything unexpected happened, that Beast would definitely finish him off.

He spat out a heavy breath and stopped worrying about the troublesome One-Eye, preparing to quickly pass the Promotion Trial. Only by becoming stronger himself would he fear no challenge.

Simba staggered back to his home. Before he even reached the door, he smelled a strange scent. Lowering his massive head, Simba sniffed hard, the powerful suction causing ripples in the bloody filth on the ground as he tried to distinguish the scent at his doorstep. "Hmm, there's a very strong creature, just like the big bear I ate before."

His keen sense of smell allowed Simba to identify One-Eye's scent.

On one hand, he was angry-Simba hadn't expected another creature to dare invade his territory.

On the other hand, he was expectant. After all, he hadn't found such a delicious meal during his hunt today.

Simba shook his head vigorously. Smelling the scent of an unknown creature, Simba felt hungry again.

One-Eye's plan for revenge had failed today, and he couldn't help but feel furious. He bit fiercely into the scraps left behind by Simba, the rotten stench making him want to vomit.

"That human must taste delicious," he thought, fantasizing about tearing Wen Yu to pieces while gnawing on the Zombie's arm. One-Eye made up his mind-he would follow that human, and at the first opportunity, he would crush the human's throat.

One-Eye fantasized about that human dying a painful death in his mouth as he slowly walked back the way he had come, occasionally glancing nervously over his shoulder, afraid that the human behind him might lose his mind and come back for another fight.

Although his newly awakened ability allowed his wounds to heal quickly, One-Eye absolutely did not want to endure the pain brought by Soul Strike.

Clearly, in One-Eye's heart, he had developed a sense of fear toward Wen Yu.

Before he could reach the park entrance, One-Eye suddenly stopped in his tracks. The Zombie arm in his mouth dropped straight to the ground, splattering a few drops of filthy blood.

He stared blankly at the massive black shadow ahead, and then a pair of lantern-sized eyes turned to look at him.

Before Wen Yu could find one of the Exchange Pillars scattered everywhere, he heard a burst of hurried footsteps from behind.

Wen Yu turned abruptly, watching as One-Eye stumbled and ran toward him from afar.

"Could this Beast really be coming to cause me trouble again so soon?" Wen Yu wondered. Logically, One-Eye shouldn't want to fight again, knowing there would be no result.

One-Eye was panting, tongue lolling, and charged at Wen Yu at full speed, his steps now lacking the steadiness and caution he had shown during their earlier battle.

Only then did Wen Yu realize something was wrong. The coldness in One-Eye's eyes was gone, replaced by panic, fear, and even terror.

A sudden shiver ran through Wen Yu. In all of Mudanjiang City, there was probably only one being capable of inspiring such fear in One-Eye.

A dazzling red light flared in the distance. A pillar of red fire, like a laser, swept directly toward Wen Yu and One-Eye.

"We're done for." Wen Yu realized where he was. The huge gains he'd just made had numbed him, making him forget how dangerous the park was.

This park, after all, had an owner.

Wen Yu dove backward as the fire pillar swept overhead, but the intense burning sensation did nothing to warm the chill in his heart.

Seeing One-Eye nimbly dodge the fire pillar and dash forward, Wen Yu didn't dare look back. He frantically bolted in the opposite direction from where the fire had come.

"Roar." A massive roar erupted behind him, the terrifying killing intent making Wen Yu's whole body go numb. The breath of death rushed toward him.

"What do I do, what do I do?" Wen Yu frantically searched for a solution.

Hearing Simba's footsteps growing closer behind him, Wen Yu made up his mind.

"Now, my only hope is to rely on the Promotion Trial to escape with my life." The Promotion Trial could teleport the challenger into the Challenge Space, which was undoubtedly Wen Yu's last lifeline.

Exchange Pillars weren't rare-there had to be one ahead.

Watching as One-Eye slowed down in the distance, Wen Yu couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope. As the saying goes, when facing a beast, you don't need to outrun the beast-just your companion.

One-Eye's Level 2 skill was probably related to self-healing. As his wounds gradually healed, the boost from his first ability was slowly diminishing. This was, ironically, a testament to the importance of skill synergy.

One-Eye also sensed the crisis. His ugly dog head kept glancing back, watching as Wen Yu drew closer and Simba's terrifying figure gradually appeared in his field of vision. The fear in One-Eye's eyes grew ever deeper.
